Diego représente ceux qui sont enfermés pour leurs opinions politiques ou religieuses, ou leur orientation sexuelle
La chanson dénonce la répression exercée par les dictatures d'Amérique latine. Diego étant un opposant emprisonné « pour quelques mots qu'il pensait si fort ». La chanson met cette injustice en perspective avec la situation du narrateur qui « danse [sa] vie, qui chante et qui rit ».
Dans le clip, on voit le journal "El pais", qui est édité dans plusieurs pays hispanophones.
Ca pourrait etre une référence à la dictature chilienne de Pinochet (1971-1990).
Ou une autre, voisine : il y en a eu plusieurs, en amérique latine, au 20 ème siècle,
et ça recommence...et plus au "nord" aussi, ça commence très fort.

Johnny Hallyday was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1943, in Paris and passed away on the night of December 5 to 6, 2017, in his house in Paris at the age of 74. He was buried on a French island he loved, Saint-Barthélémy. He is the son of a Belgian father and a French mother. He had four children, two of whom were adopted, with his last wife Leaticia Hallyday. In 57 years of career, he recorded around 1300 songs. 180 songs were turned into music videos or scopitones. 758 authors and composers collaborated with him. Johnny composed 105 songs himself and also composed about ten pieces for other artists. He also wrote and co-wrote a few songs. Johnny also has 545 duets with 188 different artists on 214 tracks. His first 45 RPM record was released on March 14, 1960, but it was on December 30, 1959, that he was heard for the first time on the radio in the show "Paris cocktail."
