yep i’m back 😌 you guys know the drill lol comment guidelines for those unaware: -only discuss things that they’ve already seen, nothing upcoming. it’s fine to remind them of certain things after the fact but don’t point out specific details to note that they haven’t on their own. -do not confirm or deny theories that they have. they will figure it out. -do not explain things that the show itself will tell them later on. -lastly, PLEASE try not give bias opinions on upcoming events or characters. let them decide for themselves who they’ll like or dislike. even ones such as “wait until you meet!…” is toeing the line. they would have no idea who that person was if they were watching on their own right? so let’s not set expectations that they otherwise wouldn’t have. i know we’re all excited to see their reactions but they won’t be genuine if the guys already know what to expect. comments that break the rules have to be removed and that sucks so please be careful. thanks guys!
#ASKTHEBOYS Can you please let the boys know , they have to watch the live action Avatar before season 3 finale?! trust me after watching the live action avatar they will be more happy with the finale. Plus their reaction will be so funny.
@Chance, thank you so much for moderating the comments below. You have been a big help. Can you check with the boys if they are reacting to next episode together in-person? I know Gabriel is going away for his new job. Episode 6 is something that they need to do it together rather than remotely.
Azula is fantastic. In some interview they talked about the voice actresses' audition. She was the only one who didn't shout her lines. She was intimidating all on her own. And the show is so much better for it.
23:15 "[Zuko] was throwing rocks at ducks!" - That wasn't because of anger... Zuko: "Hey, mom! Wanna see how Azula feeds turtle-ducks?" - He was imitating Azula....
I love how Zuko validates that he cares about Mai’s emotions. When she spent a lifetime being told to shut up and look pretty, he liked it when she speaks up. For two abused teenagers raised with nothing but war and politics, and especially Zuko having never seen a healthy, normal relationship between a man and woman in his life, they are actually fairly good for each other. Dear god they all need a therapist.
yeah with how much the fandom sleeps on their relationship everytime i rewatch im pleasantly surprised by how open and sweet their relationship is. they dont have that much screen time but its definitely hard hitting
‘They never look like they’re in love honestly’ Y’all must have collectively forgotten the scene where Azula interrupted them gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes and making out on a cliff in front of a sunset while Zuko tells Mai how beautiful she is when she hates the world lol Also ‘it literally makes no sense why she’s like this’ Azula is a narcissist sociopath princess with superpowers whose father is a genocidal militant tyrant who lets her do whatever she wants and encourages she take pride and revel in her malice and whose mother left at a young age and, even while she was around, treated her like some kind of, as she said, monster. The most attention she ever got out of Ursa was ‘what is wrong with that child.’ Zuko was clearly her favorite. On the night she left, it wasn’t Azula she visited in the cold darkness and told to never forget who she was. You don’t just get to abandoned a mentally ill child to the throes of war and expect her to turn out okay lol
[SPOILER FROM THE COMICS] I don’t really like the comics cause everybody is kinda ooc and nothing makes sense, but it is shown that the day Ursa left, she visited both Zuko and Azula on their bedrooms. We have to keep in mind “Zuko Alone” is Zuko’s perspective only.
This is a good comment except you make it sound like she left voluntarily rather than trading poison and her banishment to Ozai in exchange for Zuko's life.
"Why is Azula like that? It makes no sense!" - Azula's father is the most powerful man in the world and he's obsessed with status and power... - And unlike Zuko, Azula showed talent at an early age... - The Fire Lord considered her talent as his talent... Her power added to his status, so... - Firelord Ozai encouraged domination and cruelty, while Azula's mother (Ursa) encouraged tenderness and compassion... Ozai treated those traits as shameful weakness... Her mother scolded her displays of cruelty... - Given the choice between the most powerful man in the world and her powerless mother, the choice was easy... she didn't want to be treated like a weakling... she didn't want to be treated like Zuko or all the Earthbenders that the Fire Nation dominated... or the Airbenders who were wiped out.... > Both of the Fire Lord's children were forced to compete for his favor... but Azula had the advantage... and she used that... that's how she grew up...
This episode shows what kind of person Azula is. She is awkward with people her age because all her life it was about war and strategy to take the enemy down. And it is also the first time we see her display some emotion when she talked about her mother but she brush it off to not look weak because she was taught not to show weakness.
Something I'd like to add is an explanation for how the assassin's powers work. It's really cool how many different things they've shown that all build to his abilities. When you first see him attack he breathes in, flexing his diaphragm. This does 2 things, it helps generate fire because like Iroh said in the first episode, "Fire comes from the breath, not the muscles". Secondly, it brings his chi up from his stomach, another line from Iroh is that the stomach is "The sea of chi". Which funnily enough, happens to be exactly where the fire chakra is. So by expanding his diaphragm he's lifting his chi up from his fire chakra into his head. The next thing he does is focus his chi in the center of his forehead. What's really cool is that he actually uses the life chakra to expel his fire chi from his body to create the explosion. This is the chakra that deals with insight and is blocked by illusion. In the episode the guru, guru Pathik explains that the greatest illusion is the separation of the 4 elements and the 4 nations. His explanation is what ends up leading to toph inventing metalbending, by discovering that earth and metal are one and the same. Similarly, the explosions that the assassin creates are an extension of firebending, like metal is to earthbending. Everything comes full circle in this show and it's really cool to unravel and take a closer look.
Thank you for explaining this, I could never really pinpoint how he managed this sub-bending form. 🙏 But you're right, it's another little detail that comes full circle and makes the series that much greater.
Thicc ass comment incoming As I said in this comment from book 1 ep 8: ‘as the show progresses I’m probably going to be returning to this subject and nerding out in your comments section lol’ Well. We back in the comments y’all - So I’d said how much I love thinking about the pseudoscientific limitations of each element. This was the episode where there was an avatar shown bending lava and there was a question as to if it was firebending or earthbending. @risee said: bending lava is a true Avatar flex. Firebenders can’t truly bend lava because it’s technically super hot liquid earth I replied: I’m not even sure any earthbender can bend earth when it’s liquefied like that. Cuz like, if bending is essentially a skill that a person has that inherently allows them to physically manipulate (bend) the structure of molecules in something, (water and earth) or excite them (fire, water to vapor), slow them down (water to ice) or guide them (air and fire) I think lava would just be too different and too difficult for an earthbender to grasp to be able to bend something whose physical AND chemical structure is so far removed from their inherent ability to manipulate them It’s truly something only the Avatar can do, since they possess the inherent ability to bend any and all molecules regardless of their physical and chemical limitations unlike other benders. Maybe spoilers after the break? I’ll be very vague when I ask this question lol - Korra is indeed a series that I have watched, and there’s that thing there where… well. you know. thinking about that, do you guys reckon combustionbending, being as it’s inCREDIBLY rare, just like that thing I can’t speak on explicitly juuuuuust yet, lol could that ability be… born You know what I mean? Same rules as the other one? Cuz look lol that forehead eye is CLEARLY on the Light chakra. The one that deals with insight, and is blocked by illusion. Those airbenders were all ABOUT that third eye enlightenment stuff. I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that every baby born at the air temples were born airbenders every time because of how spiritual their culture is. See where I’m going with this? As to how this union may have happened, idk. Hahahaha omg Maybe airbenders have rumspringe and now they’re in the fire nation’s gene pool. Hahah But… yeah. I think how it might work if we accept my bending hypotheses lol is he’s focusing on a single point, then is able to compress a large amount air there, and condenses several smaller pockets of air down his line of sight. He breathes, and instead of bending straight up fire, he’s able to superheat air remotely. First pocket of dense oxygen. It bursts, and then the next one detonates because the heat flying off the first one flies down the channel, hitting and superheating air, adding concussive force and that •buhbuhbUH• noise until the most dense concentration of air… combusts.
Re: What is wrong with Azula: I watched a video with a really great analysis about this. (The video has spoilers, so I'm just summarizing the non-spoiler-y, relevant bits.) When children grow up, they look for approval from their parents, and they learn behaviors that will grant them that approval. In functional family units, children get consistency about what is right and wrong (ie: it is important for parents to be consistent with punishment, disappointment, etc). This ensure that there is no confusion about what they should do, how they should think, or how they should treat others. For Azula and Zuko, they never received this consistent treatment. The father favored Azula and disliked Zuko while the mother favored Zuko more than Azula. Children seek out praise and approval. For children in these complicated situations, they tend to favor the parent that gives them praise and ignore or dismiss the parent that does praise them. Now, what are the traits that the children were praised for/the parents approved of? Ozai (father): innate talent, perfection, excellence, cruelty, decisiveness Ursa (mother): gentleness, hard work, practice, patience, kindness The list of traits are directly at odds with one another. You cannot please both parents and gain approval from both. Even though Zuko's mother favored Zuko (likely to make up for his father's mistreatment) she made a grave error in not guiding Azula away from her father's cruelty. Her blatant favoritism only further drove her daughter to the influence of their father. (She literally says within earshot of Azula "What is wrong with that child?)!!! Zuko has come out better than his sister because of his father's dislike of him. He was predisposed to listen to his mother's teaching over his father simply because she treated him with love. On the other hand, Azula feels that she was not loved by her mother. However, if she acted in a way to please her father, she could gain HIS approval and love, so she learned to be a perfect princess because, deep down as she says in this episode, she was a child who felt unloved by her mother. That's why Azula is the way she is.
People debate whether or not Azula's mother was neglectful but she definitely was, favoring one child - she was no better than Ozai when it came to his favoritism - funny that the one thing Azula wanted was her mother's approval which she could never have as her mother never cared for her.
10:30 Fire Princess can take over the Dai Li and conquer Ba Sing Se in a weekend, but can’t flirt to save her life. Military skills: 1. Normal social skills: 0.
I think it’s really great, too, when she comes and finds Zuko. “I thought I might find you here. Come down the the beach. This place is depressing” Then there’s that one scene a few episodes ago when she goes up to Zuko, makes sure Mai is out of earshot and warns him to “be careful, dumdum.” I think for me it was right there that I thought for the first time that maybe she was being genuine. The callback to Zuko Alone. “Cartwheeling isn’t a game, dumdum” just, damn bro lol. Then here, idk if I’m imagining it but does she almost sound hurt or look hurt when she asks “is it me [you’re angry at]?” And the confused “why?” Then IMMEDIATELY clams back up. We gonna have a LOT to talk about on this subject later lol Can’t wait
@@andrewgautron4404 It's interesting that Azula may have bullied Zuko when they were children, but she was only ever full on hostile to him when their father sent her to hunt him. When he came back to the Fire Nation she was still a manipulative bitch, but she actually made no move against him and they even had a few genuine brother sister moments. They could have had a great sibling relationship if not for Ozai. He doted on Azula because she was gifted in fire bending, and was malicious to Zuko because he was weaker. That made their mother Ursa pay more attention to Zuko to make sure he didn't get stepped on, which inadvertently led to Azula feeling she loved Zuko more.
@@andrewgautron4404 Yeah, think she really does care for all those in her group but is just afraid to show it cause she has it engraved that emotions mean weakness Something that goes missing is, alright first apology to Ty Lee when she says she's a tease might look like just her wanting Ty Lee to give her advice, but I think she really did feel bad for Ty Lee, cause, later on the Episode, already at the campfire, when Zuko calls Ty Lee circus freak and Azula laughs, Ty Lee is genuinely hurt by that, so once she starts talking Azula looks at her and her face isn't mocking or evil at all, she really seems to feel bad for her, immediatly as Ty Lee looks back at her, she looks away and pretends she doesn't care, then once Ty Lee looks at Zuko again, you can see Azula looking at Ty Lee with her left eye, I think that shows she really does care about her, but she is afraid of showing what she considerse weakness so she puts up a defensive wall around her every time she interacts with someone, she is also the one trying to talk to Mai about her own issues, diving straight pretty accurately to the root of Mai's personality Later on, while Zuko is doing his monologue about how perfect his life should be now that he achieved what he wanted, she can be seen smiling on the background, now, I don't think that looks even remotely like her usual scheming, arrogant smile, but instead, I think this one is genuinely feeling it for her brother, hell, she was the one that made Zuko a hero by telling Ozai HE killled the avatar, on the first place, which is what made Zuko a hero in Ozai's eyes, and as much as she says that would make Zuko be the one to blame if Aang was still alive, remember, she said it like she was there and confirmed it, if the Avatar was still alive, she'd take the blame along Zuko for not making sure he was dead, at best she would be WORSE than Zuko because Zuko had a shot and she didn't (from Ozai's PoV), so I think she really was trying to bring him back home when she did that. She is also the one pressing Zuko to let out what he feels, giving him quite some needed relief, then she snaps back to "you're pathetic" once he has done that, once more showing she cares but is afraid to look weak in front of everyone or to her own resolve Think this is perfectly summed with her "she was right of course but it still hurt" line, as funny as this was, it shows Azula's memories (either correct or not) on her mother's perception of her really marked and hurt her, in her head "abandoning" her to take care of Zuko instead, she seems about to let that out when she said her own mother thought she was a monster, then when she felt emotional about it she had to rebuild that armor around her and play it off as a joke with the "she was right..." Additionally, while perhaps an oversight or avoided cause thought of as annoying, there is no Azula Chime / Azula Music in the entire campfire interaction As for why would she think feeling emotions is weakness... Azula at this point is 14, and everything she knows and lived for is war, she is a literal child soldier, she is TERRIFIED of being or appearing vulnerable, and unlike Zuko, who got exiled and had his uncle to try to correct him, she has been directly under Ozai's command for all these years, being favoured by him for being a prodigy from birth, being told that emotions = weakness from her childhood and reaffirmed when Zuko got banished because of those very emotions, this is important because one of her lines towards the end of the series when she fears losing Ozai's favour is: "you can't treat me like Zuko"
Also just a random observation about Zuko; I think his love language is giving gifts. Remember back in season 1, episode 2, when he had captured Aang? What h said about Aang’s glider staff- this will make an excellent gift for my father. In season 2, he stole a bunch of nice stuff, and food, to try and make his uncle happy. He gave the Earth Kingdom girl a (very dangerous) light show, just to see her happy for a minute. Then at the beach, he STILL tries to make Mai happy, by giving her things- twice. This boy just wants to buy presents and give them to people he loves so they can be happy. Maybe he doesn’t really know any other way to express affection. Granted, how he’s doing it is dysfunctional AF but this is Zuko we’re talking about.
Because his whole life he was told if he could capture and "gift" the Avatar to his father, he would regain his honor. To get something and give to someone else is the only thing he knows can "please" someone.
Interesting fact Chan in this episode is the son of Admiral Chan who we find out in Season 3 Episode 1 went to ember island on vacation by the Fire Nation soldiers and is how they knew the ship was captured
Watching Azula trying to flirt for the first time will always be hilarious, but also kind of sad. She literally has no idea how to act or talk around normal people her age, and just normal people in general! “That’s a sharp outfit Chan… you could puncture the hull of a fire nation battleship leaving thousands to drown. Because.. it’s so sharp” 😭 All she was trying to do was compliment his outfit she didn’t need to say all that though! Awh, so socially awkward!!!
When Zuko walked alone to the old house and had his flashbacks, you could see, that he was indeed having a great time with Iroh and Lu Ten. And the fact, that he is rememberring THIS before "play" time with his dad, says it all
A comment on Zuko and Mai- they’re each other’s childhood crush. It’s shown in flashbacks as well as Ty Lee has poked fun at Mai for it when they first were introduced to the show. It’s pretty sweet they finally date
The beach scene is one of my favorites. It's always interesting to see where your villains are coming from, and for me especially, to realize that Azula is - at her core - a traumatized 14-year-old girl/prodigy who internalized her abusive father's ideals and values to avoid being punished in the same way as her older brother is one of the most eye opening and well written backstories ever. It really does show why she is the way she is. The writers really went the extra mile to show that this war victimized everyone - even the villains.
Azula's cold inhuman shell is starting to crack. We saw a small glimpse of a more vulnerable side to her, showing that there is more going on with Azula than we previously thought. This episode is so beautifully written
@@ray_rayy24 When was the last time we even saw him with that. I wouldn't count that as his last element cause he's not even really that good with either (plus a machete is a sword)
One of my favorite episodes because we get to understand why each of the antagonists are like this. We always saw them in a bad light but seeing them this vulnerable and expressing themselves we see them for what made them to be like that.
@@Ryouski normally i'd be one to tout the powers of Toph, but it is established that she cannot see through water, and also wouldn't be able to see his clothes just laying on the ground, because she sees through movements and vibration.
The flashback to Zuko’s childhood!!!! Note the one where a man is holding up a baby- that’s Zuko being held by Iroh, not his father, and the little boy playing in the sand is his cousin Lu Ten!!!! 🥺🥺 Most people assume it’s his father but it’s Uncle! Also Ty Lee is a set of sextuplets.
Omg thanks for commenting! I didn't realise it was iroh in that picture, I was wondering why the man seemed so involved and happy in the pic when that wasn't ozai's persona at all
*Door about to open* 9:57 Zuko probably be like: Mai quick! Let's do some JoJo poses here! Mai: Fine... Door open: *Next second* : Pillar man theme playing
You see thing is. It’s really Ozai’s fault if you think about it. All Zuko ever wanted to do was make his dad proud, went to his first war meeting at 13 years old. Witnessed the others agreeing to sacrifice the new soldiers so Zuko stood up to them in defense for their rights. And Ozai clearly didn’t like that. And that whole time Zuko had been away, he changed from being a sweet selfless kid. To a young angry, stubborn and ignorant teenager. Then he finally comes home but it’s not what he expected. I’m gonna leave it right here.
First, the next episode is my personal favorite. It's got some big, game changing reveals Also, the assassin is using a specialized form of fire bending called combustion bending, it involves focusing one's chi through the forehead into a concentrated beam of super heated air capable of serious damage at short and long range
Toph 'sees' by feeling vibration thru the ground. When she was first fighting Aang during the earth-bending match she had trouble tracking him in the air. Since she has been traveling with Aang and the crew, she has gotten much stronger. Now she can track objects in the air like some type of active sonar. Maybe particles in the air she can now tune into? So, she can tell if you are wearing clothing, armor, nothing but bare skin, etc.... Her power grows and grows. By the end of the series I put her develop up there with Katara. This is the Breakfast Club episode. They have a bunch of teenagers in a closed space. And, those kids learn and describe how their parents and upbringing screwed them up.
If anything, try to get the next episode reaction in before you guys have to go remote if you can because it is one of the best episodes in the series.
"ok. ok, calm down. I didn't mean what I said" woah waoh waoh woah. How and why and how would a sentance like that even come out of Azula's face??! Great episode. Shows just how twisted, toxic, but most importantly, confused, this friend group is, how none of them have a place, except for Azula. Zuko said it, and it applies for all their problems, even if it wasn't the one they shared: "I don't know the difference from right and wrong anymore." He is the first person to actually try and break out of the shell of lies that the Fire Nation has spun for him and his friends. Maybe the reason Ty Lee accepted being part of a matched set in the end was because she knew that she was on the right side this time. Mai was always the voice of reason because she understood how shallow the beaurocracy of her family and its politics was. She was the second to turn because of her undying loyalty to Zuko. Not just because she loved him, but because it was the right thing to do. If anyone had more of a moral compass, it was her. Zuko had a moral compass, but it was locked away in a prison cell, betrayed by Zuko himself, who could not accept that his father never loved him, nor remember that his mother always did. I could write a paragraph like the one above ONLY about Zuko. But I'll leave it at this: he wasn't angry at anyone but himself. he was angry that he was lost, he was angry that he had betrayed. but he found his way.
That fire bending technique is called combustion bending. It's never explained how it works. A theory I like to subscribe to is that he managed to open all his chakras similar to Aang. But instead of unlocking the Avatar state, he can blow stuff up.
In a Fire nation setting it's actually very logical to go back to the house and destroy that person's home. This person has essentially embarrassed the crown prince and princess of the fire nation and as such should be appropriately punished.
5:35 Fun fact: The two Fire Nation soldiers were originally going to be killed by the assassin in an old storyboard, but the scene was cut in the final episode.
thanks for the reaction as always guys, u know i appreciate it! assassin that has yet to be named, emo zuko, socially awkward azula, what more could u ask for in a season 3 episode? love it
I honestly believe that Ursa didn’t think Azula of a monster. I don’t believe Azula’s apology to Ty Lee was genuine or sincere because it doesn’t strike me the same way as it does with Azula searching out alone for Zuko and bringing him to the beach. Azula: But, for some reason, when I meet boys, they act as if I’m going to do something horrible to them. Me: have you met you? Mai actually cares about Zuko. You can see how when her face falls when she turns around. She holds her emotions close to her chest to protect them at all costs, and uses dryness as a defense mechanism. There’s a lot of hot guys at the beach, but Mai is not fawning over them. I love Ty Lee’s *I know you.* She lets her perky cheerleader persona, because she is overwhelmed by sympathy for Zuko. She didn’t know him during his banishment. When she sees him, to us, he’s actually calmed down a bit, but to her, the change is drastic. To anyone who knew him before the age of thirteen, they’d be quite horrified to encounter his face.
the thing about azula is she’s a 14-15 (in book 3) year old child. she was a prodigy ever since she was born and their father immediately began to pamper her. zuko was always more on the softer side and wasn’t as talented or good as azula as shown in the flashbacks in zuko alone, he was essentially a momma’s boy. from a very young age azula was practically trained to be a killing machine. she’s done many horrible and terrifying things and scared several grown men shitless. and she’s still a child. azula definitely has unresolved mental issues that grew worse throughout the entire series, mai and tai lee betraying her is what made her snap. it’s really sad what happened to her, she was abused just like zuko was but no one helped her until it was too late 💔
The reason the guy with the third eye can firebender with his mind is because firebender comes from the breath like uncle Iroh said in the very beginning of season 1 when he was training Zuko. Since he master his breathing technique he created his own form of firebender just like Toph is the first to metal bend.
Zukos hair gets better and better every season and episode. Yessir This episode you can see how zuko and Azula have no game at all. Azula flirting was just socially awkward. In this episode they showed Azula trying to be a human being. showing her feelings, emotions, insecurities, and her own struggles. Which makes who she is now. Evil
This episode is unironically one of my favourites, it really shows everyone in team Azula's problems, and particularly Azula, something that goes missing is, alright first apology to Ty Lee when she says she's a tease might look like just her wanting Ty Lee to give her advice, but I think she really did feel bad for Ty Lee, cause, later on the Episode, already at the campfire, when Zuko calls Ty Lee circus freak at 18:50 and Azula laughs, Ty Lee is genuinely hurt by that, so once she starts talking Azula looks at her and her face isn't mocking or evil at all, she really seems to feel bad for her, immediatly as Ty Lee looks back at her, she looks away and pretends she doesn't care, then once Ty Lee looks at Zuko again, you can see Azula looking at Ty Lee with her left eye, so I think she really does carea bout her, but she is afraid of showing what she considerse weakness so she puts up a defensive wall around her every time she interacts with someone, she is also the one trying to talk to Mai about her own issues, diving straight pretty accurately to the root of Mai's personality Later on, while Zuko is doing his monologue about how perfect his life should be now that he achieved what he wanted, she can be seen smiling on the background, now, I don't think that looks even remotely like her usual scheming, arrogant smile, but instead, I think this one is genuinely feeling it for her brother, hell, she was the one that made Zuko a hero by telling Ozai HE killled the avatar, on the first place, which is what made Zuko a hero in Ozai's eyes, and as much as she says that would make Zuko be the one to blame if Aang was still alive, remember, she said it like she was there and confirmed it, if the Avatar was still alive, she'd take the blame along Zuko for not making sure he was dead, at best she would be WORSE than Zuko because Zuko had a shot and she didn't (from Ozai's PoV), so I think she really was trying to bring him back home when she did that. Plus if she wanted to get rid of Zuko she'd have done so or pushed to do so the moment she caught Zuko visiting Iroh, instead she gave him a warning keeping it a secret to not only the rest of the Fire Nation, but also Ozai himself. She is also the one pressing Zuko to let out what he feels, giving him quite some needed relief, then she snaps back to "you're pathetic" once he has done that, once more showing she cares but is afraid to look weak in front of everyone or to her own resolve Think this is perfectly summed with her "she was right of course but it still hurt" line, as funny as this was, it shows Azula's memories (either correct or not) on her mother's perception of her really marked and hurt her, in her head "abandoning" her to take care of Zuko instead, she seems about to let that out when she said her own mother thought she was a monster, then when she felt emotional about it she had to rebuild that armor around her and play it off as a joke with the "she was right..." Additionally, while perhaps an oversight or avoided cause thought of as annoying, there is no Azula Chime / Azula Music in the entire campfire interaction As for why would she think feeling emotions is weakness... remember, Azula at this point is 14, and everything she knows and lived for is war, she is a literal child soldier, she is TERRIFIED of being or appearing vulnerable, and unlike Zuko, who got exiled and had his uncle to try to correct him, she has been directly under Ozai's command for all these years, being favoured by him for being a prodigy from birth, being told that emotions = weakness from her childhood and reaffirmed when Zuko got banished because of those very emotions, this is important because one of her lines towards the end of the series when she fears losing Ozai's favour is: "you can't treat me like Zuko"
The Last couple of days have been really stressful and exhausting for me but coming home at the evening watching your funny reactions always puts a Smile on my face, thank you!🙏
Ty Lee: do you have any idea what's my home looks like? growing up with *six sisters who look exactly like me?!* Me: uh... may i have one your sister? ✋🏻
The assassin superheats his chi and fires it from his third eye (the metaphysical third eye aka the sixth indigo chakra). Similar to how ninja from Naruto superheat their chakra and expel it from their mouths. It’s still firebending just a subclass
Azula wasn't trying to be funny she was trying to flirt? and it's so inept and awkward that it is funny, it's not intended as a joke by the character, but it is as the show she has no idea how to interact in a normal situation
Haiyuu x ATLA 😂😂 Fr though, I'm so grateful for your reactions man, whenever I'm feeling down I can just rewatch your vids and hype me up again, 🔥 reaction
The creation of the third eye assassin was: "-Let's make somebody that can create nuclear explotions. +That's stupid... But shall we work on that idea..."
Nice curiosity, Chan, the person that invites them to the party is nephew of almiral Chan. The same almiral that Avatar gang impersonated at episode 3x01, as the Fire Nation soldier says that he is on permision at Ember Island.
I mean, Sokka may not be a bender, but he is a water tribe fighter, he has studied with the Kyoshi Warriors, he's learned sword combat from the fire nation, and he arguably learned about air combat (certainly, how to make motorized weapons and airships) from the air temple. He is not the avatar, but he has learned about all four elements in his own way.
This episode had to grow on me, because the first time I saw it they just seemed so out of character, but now I love this episode and it makes sense. Watching Azula be so socially awkward, I mean, she's worse than me LOL, it's just so funny.
yep i’m back 😌 you guys know the drill lol
comment guidelines for those unaware:
-only discuss things that they’ve already seen, nothing upcoming. it’s fine to remind them of certain things after the fact but don’t point out specific details to note that they haven’t on their own.
-do not confirm or deny theories that they have. they will figure it out.

@@cloeywalker4811 - yes cause they said they don't believe us that it could be bad
Azula is fantastic. In some interview they talked about the voice actresses' audition. She was the only one who didn't shout her lines. She was intimidating all on her own. And the show is so much better for it.
Azusa’s character build ye her personality and actions no
If you think about it Mai’s childhood is basically the same as Toph’s if Toph hadn’t run away and taken control of her life.
The fire foursome and the gaang are kinda mirrors of each other in some ways. Katara and Azula are really similar, as are toph and mai.
23:15 "[Zuko] was throwing rocks at ducks!"
- That wasn't because of anger...
Zuko: "Hey, mom! Wanna see how Azula feeds turtle-ducks?"
- He was imitating Azula....
Seeing Azula being socially awkward always puts a smile on my face.
‘They never look like they’re in love honestly’
Y’all must have collectively forgotten the scene where Azula interrupted them gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes and making out on a cliff in front of a sunset while Zuko tells Mai how beautiful she is when she hates the world lol
Also ‘it literally makes no sense why she’s like this’
Azula is a narcissist sociopath princess with superpowers whose father is a genocidal militant tyrant who lets her do whatever she wants and encourages she take pride and revel in her malice and whose mother left at a young age and, even while she was around, treated her like some kind of, as she said, monster.
++++++
[SPOILER FROM THE COMICS]
I don’t really like the comics cause everybody is kinda ooc and nothing makes sense, but it is shown that the day Ursa left, she visited both Zuko and Azula on their bedrooms. We have to keep in mind “Zuko Alone” is Zuko’s perspective only.
Chill
@@thxirine thank you 👏
This is a good comment except you make it sound like she left voluntarily rather than trading poison and her banishment to Ozai in exchange for Zuko's life.
These kids all just had a therapy session on the beach 😂 but seriously …. Wouldn’t you have a headache with power beams coming out your forehead 😭😭
Notice how it's Iroh playing with Zuko as a baby with his son making the sand castle during the flashback.
"Why is Azula like that? It makes no sense!"
- Azula's father is the most powerful man in the world and he's obsessed with status and power...
Zuko is angry at himself for betraying and abandoning the only person who’s truly ever cared for his well being, his uncle.
Nerd.😝 Jk!
Thank you for explaining this, I could never really pinpoint how he managed this sub-bending form. 🙏
But you're right, it's another little detail that comes full circle and makes the series that much greater.
The solar plexus chakra to the 3rd eye 👁

Well. We back in the comments y’all

So I’d said how much I love thinking about the pseudoscientific limitations of each element. This was the episode where there was an avatar shown bending lava and there was a question as to if it was firebending or earthbending.
@risee said: bending lava is a true Avatar flex. Firebenders can’t truly bend lava because it’s technically super hot liquid earth
I replied: I’m not even sure any earthbender can bend earth when it’s liquefied like that. Cuz like, if bending is essentially a skill that a person has that inherently allows them to physically manipulate (bend) the structure of molecules in something, (water and earth) or excite them (fire, water to vapor), slow them down (water to ice) or guide them (air and fire) I think lava would just be too different and too difficult for an earthbender to grasp to be able to bend something whose physical AND chemical structure is so far removed from their inherent ability to manipulate them
It’s truly something only the Avatar can do, since they possess the inherent ability to bend any and all molecules regardless of their physical and chemical limitations unlike other benders.
Maybe spoilers after the break? I’ll be very vague when I ask this question lol
-
Korra is indeed a series that I have watched, and there’s that thing there where… well. you know.
thinking about that, do you guys reckon combustionbending, being as it’s inCREDIBLY rare, just like that thing I can’t speak on explicitly juuuuuust yet, lol
could that ability be… born
You know what I mean? Same rules as the other one?
Cuz look lol
that forehead eye is CLEARLY on the Light chakra.
Hahahaha omg
Maybe airbenders have rumspringe and now they’re in the fire nation’s gene pool. Hahah
But… yeah. It bursts, and then the next one detonates because the heat flying off the first one flies down the channel, hitting and superheating air, adding concussive force and that
•buhbuhbUH• noise until the most dense concentration of air… combusts.
Re: What is wrong with Azula:
I watched a video with a really great analysis about this.
Ozai (father): innate talent, perfection, excellence, cruelty, decisiveness
Ursa (mother): gentleness, hard work, practice, patience, kindness
The list of traits are directly at odds with one another.
Which Azula did not hear that from Ursa.
I LOVE this explanation so much
People debate whether or not Azula's mother was neglectful but she definitely was, favoring one child - she was no better than Ozai when it came to his favoritism - funny that the one thing Azula wanted was her mother's approval which she could never have as her mother never cared for her.
Azula flirts by discussing war crimes. . .
10:30 Fire Princess can take over the Dai Li and conquer Ba Sing Se in a weekend, but can’t flirt to save her life. Military skills: 1. Normal social skills: 0.
this episode is so important to finally starting to understand azula’s character, it is so special for me, i can’t even put into words
I think it’s really great, too, when she comes and finds Zuko. “I thought I might find you here. Come down the the beach. This place is depressing”
Then there’s that one scene a few episodes ago when she goes up to Zuko, makes sure Mai is out of earshot and warns him to “be careful, dumdum.” I think for me it was right there that I thought for the first time that maybe she was being genuine. The callback to Zuko Alone. “Cartwheeling isn’t a game, dumdum” just, damn bro lol. Then here, idk if I’m imagining it but does she almost sound hurt or look hurt when she asks “is it me [you’re angry at]?”
And the confused “why?”
Then IMMEDIATELY clams back up.
We gonna have a LOT to talk about on this subject later lol
Can’t wait
@@andrewgautron4404 Yeah, think she really does care for all those in her group but is just afraid to show it cause she has it engraved that emotions mean weakness
Something that goes missing is, alright first apology to Ty Lee when she says she's a tease might look like just her wanting Ty Lee to give her advice, but I think she really did feel bad for Ty Lee, cause, later on the Episode, already at the campfire, when Zuko calls Ty Lee circus freak and Azula laughs, Ty Lee is genuinely hurt by that, so once she starts talking Azula looks at her and her face isn't mocking or evil at all, she really seems to feel bad for her, immediatly as Ty Lee looks back at her, she looks away and pretends she doesn't care, then once Ty Lee looks at Zuko again, you can see Azula looking at Ty Lee with her left eye, I think that shows she really does care about her, but she is afraid of showing what she considerse weakness so she puts up a defensive wall around her every time she interacts with someone, she is also the one trying to talk to Mai about her own issues, diving straight pretty accurately to the root of Mai's personality
Later on, while Zuko is doing his monologue about how perfect his life should be now that he achieved what he wanted, she can be seen smiling on the background, now, I don't think that looks even remotely like her usual scheming, arrogant smile, but instead, I think this one is genuinely feeling it for her brother, hell, she was the one that made Zuko a hero by telling Ozai HE killled the avatar, on the first place, which is what made Zuko a hero in Ozai's eyes, and as much as she says that would make Zuko be the one to blame if Aang was still alive, remember, she said it like she was there and confirmed it, if the Avatar was still alive, she'd take the blame along Zuko for not making sure he was dead, at best she would be WORSE than Zuko because Zuko had a shot and she didn't (from Ozai's PoV), so I think she really was trying to bring him back home when she did that. She is also the one pressing Zuko to let out what he feels, giving him quite some needed relief, then she snaps back to "you're pathetic" once he has done that, once more showing she cares but is afraid to look weak in front of everyone or to her own resolve
Think this is perfectly summed with her "she was right of course but it still hurt" line, as funny as this was, it shows Azula's memories (either correct or not) on her mother's perception of her really marked and hurt her, in her head "abandoning" her to take care of Zuko instead, she seems about to let that out when she said her own mother thought she was a monster, then when she felt emotional about it she had to rebuild that armor around her and play it off as a joke with the "she was right..."
Additionally, while perhaps an oversight or avoided cause thought of as annoying, there is no Azula Chime / Azula Music in the entire campfire interaction
As for why would she think feeling emotions is weakness...
Such a good observation, I agree I love how consistent that seems :)

A comment on Zuko and Mai- they’re each other’s childhood crush. It’s shown in flashbacks as well as Ty Lee has poked fun at Mai for it when they first were introduced to the show. It’s pretty sweet they finally date
Azula’s sob story is growing to be the “perfect” epitome of the evil teachings and propaganda of the fire nation
16:16 this is a new type of bending, they never gave it a name but we call it combustion bending. It's another subclass of fire just like lightning

It's funny watching Michael's reaction every time Raphael cracks a bad joke :D
Yeah Toph shouldn't be able to see Aang. However she could see his clothes that he took. That's one explanation.
If anything, try to get the next episode reaction in before you guys have to go remote if you can because it is one of the best episodes in the series.

Facts!!
When the best beach episode is not even from an anime
"ok. ok, calm down. I didn't mean what I said"
woah waoh waoh woah.
How and why and how would a sentance like that even come out of Azula's face??!
Great episode. Shows just how twisted, toxic, but most importantly, confused, this friend group is, how none of them have a place, except for Azula.
Zuko said it, and it applies for all their problems, even if it wasn't the one they shared: "I don't know the difference from right and wrong anymore."
He is the first person to actually try and break out of the shell of lies that the Fire Nation has spun for him and his friends.
"Whats wrong with her?" Besides being narcissistic sociopath?
Introducing the Combustion Bender
azula the (failed) backbender 🥀
That fire bending technique is called combustion bending. It's never explained how it works. A theory I like to subscribe to is that he managed to open all his chakras similar to Aang. But instead of unlocking the Avatar state, he can blow stuff up.
In a Fire nation setting it's actually very logical to go back to the house and destroy that person's home. This person has essentially embarrassed the crown prince and princess of the fire nation and as such should be appropriately punished.
Azula: *literally the worst human being second only to the fire lord*
Raph: "Something's wrong with Azula"
5:35 Fun fact: The two Fire Nation soldiers were originally going to be killed by the assassin in an old storyboard, but the scene was cut in the final episode.
This episode and the finale is definitely my favorite episodes

Forza milan 🤞🏾
Funny how 2 of them make a grunting sound at the end of every little line, and the other never does a peep
Yeah Azula is tapped man lol
😂😂
You know you are watching a good anime when there is a beach
This whole episode is basically the fire Nation version of spring break or summer break either way you get fired.
the thing about azula is she’s a 14-15 (in book 3) year old child. she was a prodigy ever since she was born and their father immediately began to pamper her. zuko was always more on the softer side and wasn’t as talented or good as azula as shown in the flashbacks in zuko alone, he was essentially a momma’s boy. from a very young age azula was practically trained to be a killing machine. she’s done many horrible and terrifying things and scared several grown men shitless. and she’s still a child. azula definitely has unresolved mental issues that grew worse throughout the entire series, mai and tai lee betraying her is what made her snap. it’s really sad what happened to her, she was abused just like zuko was but no one helped her until it was too late 💔
Azula's intensity is so hilarious outside of combat, she's just another weirdo. I love it.
The reason the guy with the third eye can firebender with his mind is because firebender comes from the breath like uncle Iroh said in the very beginning of season 1 when he was training Zuko. Since he master his breathing technique he created his own form of firebender just like Toph is the first to metal bend.
Last time I was this early Zuko didn't have a scar.
Evil
Also shout out to Ty Lee's mom for giving birth to six-tuplets. 😮
The next episode man…. Best one. Such a big impact on how you see things. PLEASE UPLOAD IT ASAP LMAO I can’t wait for your reactions!
This episode is unironically one of my favourites, it really shows everyone in team Azula's problems, and particularly Azula, something that goes missing is, alright first apology to Ty Lee when she says she's a tease might look like just her wanting Ty Lee to give her advice, but I think she really did feel bad for Ty Lee, cause, later on the Episode, already at the campfire, when Zuko calls Ty Lee circus freak at 18:50 and Azula laughs, Ty Lee is genuinely hurt by that, so once she starts talking Azula looks at her and her face isn't mocking or evil at all, she really seems to feel bad for her, immediatly as Ty Lee looks back at her, she looks away and pretends she doesn't care, then once Ty Lee looks at Zuko again, you can see Azula looking at Ty Lee with her left eye, so I think she really does carea bout her, but she is afraid of showing what she considerse weakness so she puts up a defensive wall around her every time she interacts with someone, she is also the one trying to talk to Mai about her own issues, diving straight pretty accurately to the root of Mai's personality
Plus if she wanted to get rid of Zuko she'd have done so or pushed to do so the moment she caught Zuko visiting Iroh, instead she gave him a warning keeping it a secret to not only the rest of the Fire Nation, but also Ozai himself.
As for why would she think feeling emotions is weakness... remember, Azula at this point is 14, and everything she knows and lived for is war, she is a literal child soldier, she is TERRIFIED of being or appearing vulnerable, and unlike Zuko, who got exiled and had his uncle to try to correct him, she has been directly under Ozai's command for all these years, being favoured by him for being a prodigy from birth, being told that emotions = weakness from her childhood and reaffirmed when Zuko got banished because of those very emotions, this is important because one of her lines towards the end of the series when she fears losing Ozai's favour is: "you can't treat me like Zuko"
I mean toph probs felt him take off his clothes before and then noticed he was swimming when he wasn’t touching earth anymore
"why are you guys stripping what's going on"
"We're going swimming"
".... Oh"
it hurts more when you know that it was baby zuko, iroh, and iroh’s son in those flashbacks 😢 that’s why the young boy didn’t look like zuko
The Last couple of days have been really stressful and exhausting for me but coming home at the evening watching your funny reactions always puts a Smile on my face, thank you!🙏

“That’s what you call daddy” I am CACKLING
The assassin superheats his chi and fires it from his third eye (the metaphysical third eye aka the sixth indigo chakra). Similar to how ninja from Naruto superheat their chakra and expel it from their mouths. It’s still firebending just a subclass
Azula wasn't trying to be funny she was trying to flirt? and it's so inept and awkward that it is funny, it's not intended as a joke by the character, but it is as the show she has no idea how to interact in a normal situation
i loved getting to know more about the fire nation kids in this episode but man do they all need a good therapist
I thought the joke Ralph was making was I'm hungry. Well nice to MEAT you.
Haiyuu x ATLA 😂😂
Fr though, I'm so grateful for your reactions man, whenever I'm feeling down I can just rewatch your vids and hype me up again, 🔥 reaction
21:46 remember that for future episodes
The creation of the third eye assassin was: "-Let's make somebody that can create nuclear explotions. +That's stupid... But shall we work on that idea..."
Don't do too much back bending in college fellas!
This comment 😭😭😂
“Hinata’s gonna be mad” 😂
Oh snap! Best part of my day today
This episode had to grow on me, because the first time I saw it they just seemed so out of character, but now I love this episode and it makes sense. Watching Azula be so socially awkward, I mean, she's worse than me LOL, it's just so funny.
I was shocked too when she kissed someone
Fire nation stay fire nation
