I’m not even a celebrity but I need to share my story Being black in America by faith Thomas Imagine living in 2020 with everything going on: then think back to about 1984 ( my birth year: do things seem different or are they all sadly just another way to keep people living in their little bubble. How should I know , I’ve been living it for 35 years if you’d allow me to explain. From 1984-1992 we had the Rodney king riots and we’re living through even more “perilous “ times. In 1992, I was a elementary school student in a school where you only had 3 races : black white and latino , it was hard but I didn’t know how hard I’d have it until I was in middle school and my first 3 years of high school. From 1996 -2003, I went to a continuation school with only latino , black and white kids and since I wasn’t really “white” & I wasn’t “black” I was fair skinned which meant that I wasn’t Mexican either it didn’t afford me friends so I led the solitary lifestyle plus I was in a specialized learning program which made it even more difficult bcoz u can’t label what I had as a disability called autism because u didnt see signs ( it’s a learning disability ) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome In 2003 , my school matriculated from having a K12( kindergarten to twelfth grade ) program to a K8 ( kindergarten to 8th grade ) program which meant the didn’t have pretend that I had to be miss prefect( I went to a school where everyday I rode the short bus and because I hated loud noises and had a big head I kept to myself. I then transferred to a performing arts high school for 2 years (graduating in 2004 bcoz of a friend who was much like me a social recluse ). What does this have to do with everything now: well not only am I a black female I’m also a sports fan. However, if you're shot by someone you're supposed to be friends with it's safe to say they lose that protection from you and it's perfectly fine to speak your peace and protect yourself. How should I know , I’ve been living it for 35 years if you’d allow me to explain. From 1984-1992 we had the Rodney king riots and we’re living through even more “perilous “ times.
In 1992, I was a elementary school student in a school where you only had 3 races : black white and latino , it was hard but I didn’t know how hard I’d have it until I was in middle school and my first 3 years of high school. From 1996 -2003, I went to a continuation school with only latino , black and white kids and since I wasn’t really “white” & I wasn’t “black” I was fair skinned which meant that I wasn’t Mexican either it didn’t afford me friends so I led the solitary lifestyle plus I was in a specialized learning program which made it even more difficult bcoz u can’t label what I had as a disability called autism because u didnt see signs ( it’s a learning disability ) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome
In 2003 , my school matriculated from having a K12( kindergarten to twelfth grade ) program to a K8 ( kindergarten to 8th grade ) program which meant the didn’t have pretend that I had to be miss prefect( I went to a school where everyday I rode the short bus and because I hated loud noises and had a big head I kept to myself. I then transferred to a performing arts high school for 2 years (graduating in 2004 bcoz of a friend who was much like me a social recluse ). Then in what was supposed to be my freshman of college I went to a community college ( bcoz I sucked at math) getting my associate of arts degree in 2010.
What does this have to do with everything now: well not only am I a black female I’m also a sports fan. I know a little confusing but I’ll try and explain , because of my upbringing with having a father that played American football and no brothers I had the genetic upbringing. In 2004 after I had graduated I went to community college and graduated in 2006 , when I started really liking college basketball : the NCAA men’s tournament is ONE OF THE ONLY SPORTING EVENTS U CANT CALL ME DURING (NHL PLAYOFFS (even with the fact that my home state California has 3 teams ( the Los Angeles kings (2 titles :2012, 2014 ) , the Anaheim ducks (1 title 2006-07 season) and the San Jose sharks) , COLLEGE FOOTBALL ( I pick a conference not a team ( the SEC : SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE schools BELOW the mason Dixon line ) AND BULL RIDING the other 3 ) . then in 2011 , I became a fan of bull riding ( football on a 1000 pound animal) and have been to every professional bull riding event in my hometown of Los Angeles since. Then that same year I became a nascar fan ( lemme be crystal clear: golf and tennis are both recreation: if u can’t get hit I AINT watching it ). Now in 2020 with everything going on it seems that I have to be more thankful for the scars it gave me,
