That random country was the Republic of Sonora, the American filibuster William Walker claimed that it had to be independent, the reason was because it would be beneficial to the territories because the Mexican government wouldn't take the required attention to that territory, but the real reason of being independent was to later be annexed to the US. Later on, the same year, William started attacking some locations, but the natives defended their territory and then Mexico took again the territory. This only lasted some months.
@@pwldev Yeah Sonora and the other one was Baja California which I believe was also related to the man you just talked about and some months later he also annexed Sonora and combined the 2 territories to the Republic of Sonora and Baja California which has an error here because Republic of Baja Caifornia cant exist next to the Republic of Sonora-Baja California because Sonora-Baja came after Baja California which became annexed.

i'm a bit confused on whether this is a de-facto or de-jure map? iirc texas didn't control most of the territory it claimed until after it was integrated into the united states, yet you show it as controlling the mexican occupied territories. on the other hand, during the mexican-american war and the civil war, territories controlled by opposing sides are shown. is there a reason you decided not to detail the sections controlled by mexico?
