When I saw it was English vs French, I was worried the game was gonna be really boring, but honestly that was a really good showcase of Age of Empires fundamentals. Great army control and great multitasking on both sides
I watched a video posted by Beasty about 8 player FFA on Migration, in which someone (cannot remember his rank but for sure Platinum or less) playing with English and started with farms, so Beasty mentioned he would consider this start, and I think this is him trying this.
I loved the knights finding the chop through to get into his base and I loved the spear raid. It's great watching players much better than myself and seeing what strategies they come up with as well as their great mechanical skills.
To be fair, that was due to the game's auto-pathfinding. kiljardi just clicked on where the villagers were and his units automatically ran through the hole
Watching a TOP French player being defensive in their base till minute 10 or more is sometimes you dont see daily XD Beasty is just a BEAST in this game.
Awesome strat from beasty. I believe he said on his stream that mista started this back in the day but he doesn't play anymore or hasn't for awhile so it hasn't been seen. Either way. good english build
I was watching the stream while Beasty this for the first time. Someone on chat asked why people from 3D clan are making 2 farms without the mill and he decided to try it out.
In the thousands of games that I've watched, it's almost always better to build walls before building rams and attacking your enemy. Of course, in this game, kiljardi had the wood to do both. But I do think the game could have gone to late Imperial had he built walls/outposts sooner and focused on defense before offense. Not saying he would have won since the English are very strong in the late game. But the French do have better artillery than the English so who knows.
