The bare shoulders are contradictory, but -- and I have no idea of the actual skin line lore -- I think you could see it as a kind of "fae mimicking human choices without knowing why." She has fur not because she's cold -- she's a winter fae, why would she be cold? She's emulating style without substance. The problem is that if you want to make a skin that intentionally comes off as style without substance you need to make sure it's understood that this is intended, that it's an in universe trait. And I doubt they intended this reading.
@@oyeaxD Different perspectives. You're offering an irl explanation, while the original comment offered an in-universe one. Both are important, but it's equally so to understand you're coming into it with different intentions.
@@oyeaxD I know. I'm not dismissing that that's the real intended reason. But that's not all that is valuable. If someone WANTS to search for a deeper reason beyond that, that's fine. Great, even. Praying mantis would be the easiest choice. Bonus points, it's not one of the obviously cute bugs, so they'd have to work to make it fit with Lillia. Sounds fun!
Oh and shes shivering! I guess in her base form it was to show shyness but here with a winter theme it takes a completely new meaning! Especially with those less than practical clothing choices!

@@wallewonks This isn't the most outragous case since at least the gold contrasts nice enough with the blue and the gold kinda makes sense for a court librarian, but the general problem is that Riot keeps putting gold on absolutely everything (like bloodmoon fiddlesticks, where it both makes no sense to use gold both logically and thematically), which really oversaturates its usage. If they used it more sparingly, the use of gold could actually mean something and be a tool, both for storytelling but also to make those skins who have it more actually feel special. For example if the fairy court line established a different accent material for each season, that could be used to better recognise what season they belong to, they also could have used different accent materials to seperate them by rank, like seperating the servants, nobles and royals at the court. In short, mindless overusage of visual elements in designs often leads to less opportunities to tell stories or create unique designs.
@@lunathic oh, I see. Yeah, now when I look at it that way, I don’t like the gold in it anymore. I think it would look very nice if the gold was replaced with a super bright frosty white-blue, with little snowflakey frosty things
The fur and wings Lillia has going on evoke the idea of butterflies and moths, so the patterns on her legs I'd argue are akin to the body segmentation of insects, as a sort of "we can't really make her lower half that of an actual insect but we can do this atleast" effect

I associate leggings with winter just because whenever the winter season starts for me I have a bunch of insulated leggings that I wear (so to me it makes sense Lillia wearing such).
Hearing more and more Genshin OSTs in the backgrounds of these videos makes me happy, I'm glad you enjoy the music as well and feel it fits a lot of these character designs!

The shoulders, armpits, and open back are for the midriff and armpit fans as well as the tights for people into hosiery. Which is questionable especially for hosiery on the legs of a deer.
On one hand, I think centaurs would want to clothe their legs about as much as humans do-inconsistently, but often enough that they'd design garments for the purpose. So giving Faerie Court Lillia such a garment is theoretically neat. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that the Lillia's leggings would not actually work or be comfortable.
There are a lot of "coated" leggings so could be based on that and I'm just guessing but maybe the open back is based on Ice Skaters? It looks like an outfit they'd wear honestly
I read this as more of a "there is no real winter here, but I gotta keep up the appearance" kinda thing. Some like the aesthetic of winter like clothing, but more as a fashion statement and not as something thats actually serving a purpose
I mean...if she's a winter court faerie...she won't need anything on her shoulders and back. She literally couldn't feel cold in any environment that humans can live in.
I interpreted the tassels on the hoves as exactly that: Tassels, not leggins. Also naked shulders are pretty often used to have a character show more skin, to allude to sexyness
Kane was 16 when he made his first Backrooms video! Also, his Backrooms videos aren't the first ever to exist. His just became very popular. There were a few Backrooms videos before his. One of which was Evan Royalty's, the guy who did SCP short films like Overlord. Liminal space became popular in 2019 then exploded in 2020.
with how the legs have grooves in the splash art and on the back of the legs in her in-game model, I always assumed she was more like a bug-centaur rather than intended to be a deer wearing bug-themed pants. I think if this is the case they should have gave it a little more effort by making the joints look more segmented though.
This skin and Aurora has the exact same winter fashion problem: too skimpy and needs more fur (especially when it makes sense to have them as beastfolk).
At first glance, the top half of her attire read as adjacent to a women's figure skating costume, which may simulate the appearance of bare shoulders and back with fleshtone fabrics. That's not to say her outfit is rendered as having fleshtone fabric here, but my assumption was that such figure skating costuming was the inspiration 🤷♂️
Issue for me with the skin as a Lillia player is its just more of the same. Default, Spirit Blossom, Shanghi and Faerie Court give me the same fantasy of being a helpful spirit/fae being.
I really wanted the coat to transition into something like a real horse blanket... I think its a bit silly having a torso-only coat end in white fur- just to lead into a white fur back? when a draping coat long her back could of have the same look but feel less human with attached deer butt
I think I see the problem they tried to solve with the pants: Imagine they left her legs bare instead. Now, since we have the thick fur on the back and we agree that it's good, we have to decide whether to continue it down her legs or not. If we continue the thick fur down her legs, this looks sensibly like the legs of some cold-weather animal. The problem I could see here, though, is that it changes her in-game silhouette too much, so that she wouldn't read clearly anymore. Since that's among their top priorities when designing skins (reasonably so), we can't have that. If, instead, we just leave the legs with normal fur, we run into the problem that it looks absolutely ridiculous to have the thick fur on the back, but then be on thin, uncovered legs so you lose all the warmth anyways. It doesn't look like a believable animal; the first two adaptations against the cold are usually thicker fur and stockier limbs. So they went with option C instead, where they give her leggings, with the implication seemingly being that they're stuffed full of fur inside (or at least that's what it looks like with it barging out at the hips). At least, that's the most sensible explanation I could come up with. The minds of the Designers At Riot™ remain unknowable.
I personally didn’t interpret them as pants and more so just the color of her fur? But im not familiar with what her design usually looks like so maybe that adds context
Maybe the "leggings" are censorship BUT since she is a winter antler or around that, being that color means her blood in her extremities are not flowing well so it's that dark coloring. Or maybe is just style to protect from cold

Centaur leggings.
If a deer wore pants would they go like this?
Haha, my first thought - it's like the skin was made to explicitly answer this (meme) question xD
They’re not leggings, they reskinned her deer body to look more like a reindeer’s winter coat, which is dark on the belly and legs with a white back.
