I’m 74 and am in the process of filling and planting six Birdies raised beds. I’m lucky enough to be able to source the filling materials from our own property with the aid of our trusty tractor, but it’s still a hard and lengthy process but only has to be done once. Birdies products are superior in my opinion. What a pleasure it was to be able to stand up and sew seeds.
June thats going to be a huge help when filling them. I cant wait to garden at waste height and save my knees
They look quality and have a sleek design.
I always go to farm auctions as there are always tough water troughs there for a bargain price and a link of paint they look OK.
@@ibrstellar1080 Great idea
I put my Birdie beds together by myself. I just flipped them over to tighten the bottom ones. Easier for me than bending over and reaching. I just did them all down until the 3rd row was left and flipped the whole thing over.
Great points
Or put a brick or piece of wood underneath to lift it up enough to get your hand under.
Great to see Australian made products getting around the world.
I love the idea of raised beds that will take the strain off my back from bending. My wooden beds are falling apart and need replacing. Will look into these beds. I’d put metal wire underneath to prevent gophers from digging inside.
I like the fact you wont have to keep building them. My first garden was made from scaffolding boards but every few years I was replacing the beds, whereas these will last and saves me work time and energy
You can't beat gardening at waist level with what ever you built or resorse.
♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
Thanks, Tony! I have been wanting Birdies, ever since Mark introduced them to us. My stop sign was always the price..UNTIL- last weekend! I pulled a muscle in my back bending over, for a long time, while tending my short beds. After a week of not being able to bend over, the value of the birdies just surpassed the actual cost, for me! How valuable is my back and the ability to keep on gardening VS the price tag of the raised bed? Well, that has now become an easy answer.
Hey Tony. To tighten those bottom screws, just lift it up on a block of timber or a brick, and reach from underneath to tighten. 👍
Great idea thanks
Rest it on the cardboard to protect the paintwork as they look so nice.
That's what I said!
Agree with you on the Birdies beds - they are fantastic. Extremely popular in Australia where they are made. I have 6 and they look the same as they did when I installed them years ago. For the deep ones I put all my cardboard, old potting soil, bits of wood, anything I could find in, and then put potting mix only on the top levels.
I suffer with really heavy clay soil on my farm here in Thailand. Over the past year I have been trying to add as much organic material as possible but the clay soil seems to eat it up in no time. I have made a couple of brick raised beds and after 9 months they are producing amazing results with my chillies, swiss chard, Chinese cabbages, corn and so much more, all the plants are so healthy. Great video Tony thanks.
Yeah clay soil does swallow organic matter
Those beds look beautiful Tony….I may have to invest in a couple of those and treat myself! 😁💪🏼🌻
With a knackered back raised beds have been vital for me, 6 more being built over the winter months and there is no more bending over the entire allotment.
The raised beds your showing look fantastic Tony, a great investment for anybody with poor soil or disabilities.
Yes Ian and im finding after operations on both knees and back its getting harder
👍
Agriculture + Gardening
💚
Fantastic idea those raised beds will sure save your back and knees.
Yes they will over the years I will make it ready for my older years
Enjoy seeing your video!
We are going to get two of these hopefully in our next growing season to cover one end of our concrete. This will allow us more growing area.
They are brill I cant wait to get growing in them in spring
Recently purchased your book which arrived today and can’t wait to surprise my husband with it he’s a big fan of yours Thank you 😊
Oh thank you Stacy I am glad he now has a copy. Tell him I hope he enjoys it
Love these - and I'd often wondered how you put them together so this was perfect. Thanks Tony.
Several people have said the same thing about having a 2nd person for the lower bolts. All you need to do is flip the bed over. With the bottom now on top, you have no issue holding the bolts in place. The Birdies beds are really nice.
Ooh fantastic beds Tony 😂😂 were not getting old we are fermenting like fine wine 🍷. Love Kevin’s channel 👍👍. Have a great weekend Roobob 🐝 safe
Your videos totally inspired me (and still do) during lockdown. Got the veg going because of your advice. Keep keeping on!
Birdies Beds made in Australia, thanks for buying from Australia! Cheers!👍
Yes they are Kevin imports to USA and UK
Birdies garden beds are Australian from Queensland, i had some of the original ones in my previous home, just have one currently the tall one. Great height but filling always an issue. I plan on purchasing more but probably not so high when i get back home, my garden is full of goodness only knows what concrete, rubble who knows but undiggable. Id suggest putting some adhesive under the rubber capping as my did start coming off. I also like the round tree ones they come in many colours. Ill be interested to see how you fill it and how you go
Yes I know they are Australian my friend Mark from self sufficient me uses them too. But its Kevin that's brought them to the Uk. yes filling will be a task and I will cover that later
Hi Tony!
Just want to say, I love your channel! My Dad and I started our veg growing journey on our patio this year. Our potatoes, carrots and tomatoes were a success!
I have Fibromyalgia so growing in buckets and growbags is the easiest for me. We are expanding a wee bit next year by growing basic veg in our containers.
Keep up the brilliant work!
That's it Tony. As us gardeners get more and more aches and pains its certainly better to take steps to make it easier on the body.
Yes Dan It makes life easier
I much prefer the look of YOUR RAISED BEDS, than that of Birdie. If only I were 10 years younger I could build yours!
Mine actually cost more to make that the birdies are to buy. mine werent cheap I paid £100 a sheet of metal and all the timber, so cost me about 280 to build each
Those look Fantastic Tony! I love the height! They'd look amazing at the front of my new growing space. Hmm food for thought.. they look amazing quality too! Thanks for sharing! Danny 🌱
Come over and take a look how good they are
Ah sweet, been waiting for these to be available in the UK 🎉
And now they are
Great looking container!
I think so too!
Birdies look so awesome! One day!
I think so too!
Australia use them lots. Looks awesome 👌
Yes a friend of mine Mark from self sufficient me uses them too, and they stand the test of time, he's been flooded this year but the growing spaces are raised and that's fine
Great information 🙂🙂
Glad it was helpful!
discovered these beds two years ago. first i bought the shorter version and have had zero issues with them.last fall i bought two or the taller 6 in 1 and after filling with cut trees wood chips grass and then dirt and manure let them sit over winter. These did fantastic and i loved the higher bed so this fall i will buy two more of the tall ones and replace some of my failing wood beds, tall beds are the only way to go for us older gardeners.
It will e how I will fill mine Arnold I will eventually turn over the entire garden to raised beds as my knees and back are suffering after years in the fire service and 3 ops
If you maybe flipped it you would have reached the screws.
Yeah I agree but while building them there is no strength until its complete
Put a couple of bricks under the bed where the last fixings are, put one hand through the gap to reach the nut/bolt..
intersting video
Cheers Steven
Love raised beds especially as I am getting older. Lol
Yeah and having them much higher is saving me getting on my damaged knees
Hi Tony, my thought as to why you've opted for such a tall bed, is that you are aiming to grow record length leeks or maybe parsnips.
BTW build in Australia 🇦🇺
I have that height of bed. It’s wonderful on your back but I’m limited on what I can grow in it.
It’s just too tall. The next 6 I bought are 18 inches.
For me, they are the perfect height.
Blessings!
They wont all be this high Tammy but ideal for smaller crops or even root veg
Wont you only need the deep one if growing carrots/parsnips?
To tighten the lower bolts - is the raised bed firm enough to turn over?
It is firm enough to turn
These are great but they are almost £50 more than Suttons who also sell birdies raised beds
Suttons sizes?
What happened to the roach hut as I'm thinking of getting back into breeding dubai Cockroaches again after a 10 year break
Can't wait for our collab, Tony! What should we collab about...⬇⬇⬇
Think we should do something for use in Winter mate I will message you
It would be like Batman and Superman joining forces!
Hi, you said it’s best to have 2 people as your arms weren’t long enough for the bottom screws. What about turning up upside down and they would be on the top. Why didn’t you do it ?
This bed is quite large and I didnt want to risk it dropping hard down and damaging it but they are way sturdy so it shouldnt be an issues at all
Tony, the tip is to turn it upside down then you can reach the screws and bolts.
Cheers Rick. sometimes you cant see the wood for the trees mate
@@simplifygardening your welcome😀🇦🇺
How many years do you recon they would last?
Well ive seen them in both Mark and Kevins gardens for years and years and still look as good as the day they were built
@@simplifygardening how many years has that been?
Mine lasted 2 years before it rotted out.
@@matthewkurt2246 only two years?
@@Gabi-lt4mx in my case, yes. I wasn't impressed. It rusted out around nearly every bolt hole and fell apart at those seams. I should have known better than to purchase something that that Kevin guy promotes and sells.
Hi i subscribe to ur channel
It has no base. I would just have flipped it the other way up to do the bolts at the bottom end.
Yeah heinsight has 20-20 vision
Another promotion video 👍
Yes another promotional video. Im promoting another creator and his business Terry. and also some extremely great products. feel free not to buy though
With all the work you did weeding and clearing it you could of just dug it in the time it took to put the beds together
Yes Lee but that wont help my back and knees long term and this ground never does well for me thats why the spuds used to be there
I didn't reap what I sowed because I didn't have the time and energy to transplant my seedlings xD
Oh I am sorry about that, but you do have to follow through to reap what you sow. :)
Twice you mention wanting the higher bed for a certain purpose, but for some reason you didn't want to mention what.
In a later episode
Over £200 for that size
Ah the codes not working for me.
SIMPLIFYGARDENING try with a space if not working
I can't understand why someone in England want to buy Birdies from the US, when it's an Australian product ! Why don't you get them from downunder ?
They are buying them from UK not USA. these are not being shipped from the USA they are in the UK already
OK, but your just talking about Kevin and you gave his Web site and promo code, so it looks like the orders are going through his channel.
@@gillessellier1451 The orderes are going through his website shop, he has warehouses in the Uk that he has opened and has stock here
Let's be honest, and let the people know that this is an Australian brand...Aussie made, and guaranteed
Honest? no one said there were not just that they were available in the USA and now Britain. It might not have been clear they are made in Australia but because it is primarily aimed at a British audience I suppose several people have pointed it out so perhaps you are being a bit sensitive. In any case it can only help the product
i would like to buy you a coffee tony.enjoy.
Thanks 😀
Birdies beds are the BEST. 🌏💙🤎💚🍃🌿🌱🪱 🇦🇺 So glad Kevin is taking this Aussie product to the world 👏👏👏
Yes and I am glad he has brought them to the UK
The world actually took it to Kevin, not the other way around. You can find them for less than what Kevin charges.
