I love paytm and will support VSS. He is an inspiration and he will get over the hurdles. Fintech is a new industry and it is very tough to balance customer and govt expectation. Unless I have a relevant data about what they have done wrong, i will support them.
About the video :On 31st January 2024, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) barred Paytm Payments Bank from offering all its core services. As a result, paytm lost 2 billion dollars in market value!
Now in the process, 300 million wallets, 30 million bank accounts, and eight million Fastags in paytm’s portfolio are being affected!
And whats even worse is that, this is not the first time RBI has slapped paytm with restrictions.
RBI banned PPB from onboarding new users in 2018, and 2022, RBI rejected their payment aggregator license, they issued them a 5.4cr penalty and the ED has even raided their premises.
Now while most people might directly blame paytm, Ashneer grover interestingly said, while the government toots the horn of UPI across the world, its punishing the pioneers in the space, and its killing the sector.
So on one side, while we are seeing it as strong RBI restrictions to prevent big playera from flouting rules, Foreign investors might see India as Anti -Start up because of these big steps that penalise the pioneers of India!
And this might affect our reputation among the investors!
So let’s dive into one of the craziest case studies of the year and understand,
Why is the RBI being so Harsh on paytm?
What did they do wrong?
Will you be affected if you use Paytm’s UPI and Fastag?
Can paytm survive this crash?
And most importantly, what are the lessons that we need to learn from this massive Paytm fiasco?

Having a Lehmann Bros or Credit Suisse is a bane where people loose their savings. Feel genuinely bad for Paytm, but RBI disciplining Paytm gives a ray of hope that someone ain't sleeping at the top while thinking these giants are too big to fail.
so true when that kind of default happens it is often we blame the the govnt and the respective reserve banks of the country as we should what is especially good is RBI taking proactive steps to not let this happen no atter how big the co is .
Are you sure about that? Why does it seem like a way that rbi wanted reliance to get the market cap paytm had i hope it is not true and i am wrong in that
@@abhilashmehera3813 bro Paytm had around 13% market share of UPI transactions in volume, and there are other player too like phonepe(45%), gpay(36%), others. @@abhilashmehera3813I see where this idea might be coming from especially when you see the current political situation of the country but this RBI decision seems super valid. Especially even when RBI warned them multiple times. RBI didn't cancel their license, just gave them a slap at the wrist.
This is the first time I understand the problem deeply, sadly 😢 no other mainstream media is covering this issue in such deep manner.
Pautm was a great experience for me. Even when I was withdrawing all of my fixed deposits from the bank, it gave me around 3k interest. Paytm is very fast. I prefer it when I book tatkal. No other platform is so swift like Paytm. I hope it'll regain its position.

For bookings Paytm was the best to book everything at one place now we have to depend on independent sites for that
I couldn’t understand why acting against an entity, pioneering or start-up or any other, that doesn't follow compliance and corporate governance norms will be considered as anti-startups?! Moreover, PayTM had been warned many times and yet did nothing. It is imperative that companies in financial services must be more ethical in their operations and the cost of complaince must be factored in their costs and valuations.
Also its best to ignore of persons who themselves have unethical practices against them.
So true. If anything this should be an example to everyone operating in the space "fuck around and find out". With so many banks in the past looting people of their hard earned money its good RBI is showing PayTm its place. There are many alternatives to PayTm, pioneer or not you are not immune to rules. RBI Making a way for jio financial services
Wah wah entrepreneur, kya insights hai. Tu bahut aage jayega.
Of course saste RR.
If RBI takes some action it is to benefit Adani/Ambani
If RBI doesn't take any action, it is to benefit Adani/Ambani.
Rbi even once banned HDFC from issuing new Credit Cards, RBI has a lot of independence in some matters, not everything in India is Adani/Ambani. Even if this would benifit Ambani, i would rather have Ambani earn money than Chinese companies.
Sodexo should also be banned as it does not based even on UPI. Hugh set back to small vendors like chat or bakery resulting in set back of local economy...
Even RBI provides Sodexo meal cards or coupons to it's employees🤷🏻♂️
But RBI provides sedexo coupons for their employees as perk.. Which is around 200/day
Gol gappe wala lega kya coupons. Usske paas UPI ka QR code hai. Lekin kaun coupon se ya sodexo app se pay karega.
Sodoxo app is not based on UPI. So you can't pay local vendors who is not tied up with Sodexo. MONOPOLY.
Sodexo is created to shop in reliance and d-mart etc. Which I "personally" don't like...
This is one of the best videos I have seen in recent times! Learnt a lot of valuable things today!!
Well paytm was the pioneer in startup ecosystem and customers were happy with services provided by paytm, they brought ONDC in their platform, they were helping several MSMEs to become mainstream, so certainly many of the competitors didn't like those, and you know who. I hope they figure out those mismanagement and come back stronger.

thank you think school for explaining it in a crystal clear and confined way
hey AS an engineer I can tell you that there is no need to change the QR code you can change the backend software and there is some stuff like linking bank account that can be adjusted but it will take time
ya they have to just redirect old qr code to new one
It depends how their qr works if it's pointing to an url which redirects to upi id then they can change it. If their qr is pointing to upi id directly they need to change qr. Don't say random stuffs you being engineer adds no value to your comment if you don't know how qr works.
Changing the partner bank changes the UPI id also, so change in UPI id means there will be definitely a change in the QR code..
Why RBI is not telling about what compliance did Paytm did not follow seems suspicious.
It's confidential bro

Indian Fintech is way to competitive. When I valued the company, I estimated FV at around 300 bucks a share. This was last year. It was highly overvalued even then. Won't buy until it drops to atleast 350. This company just doesn't know how to make money. Long overdue correction, triggered by an event is all. Imo just traditional banks are better than these types of fintech companies without a technological moat.

There are many strong online rumours that behind all this PayTM fiasco, there could be Reliance's and Jio's strong hand, as Jio Finance would eventually be benefitted in the long run considering it's plans to get into the respective UPI business and this hurdle would single-handedly side-track it's biggest competitor.
How true are these views?
Jio is just rigging the system now.
MAY BE
Phone pe is the biggest competitor accounting 47% of upi market but still upi business is loss business no profit in this it's paytm is only 13% Google pay27% so do you ambani will do this for a loss business if he wants this how iilogicial facts are you presenting ambani is busy in copittetion with adani 😂😂😅
Highly inaccurate info. Paytm is not even a leader in UPI processing and lags phone pe and gpay by a considerable margin. They're banned because they onboarded customers without kyc which is a magnet for money laundering allegations. Where did jio figure into all this?. Dozens of small payments banks are operating in India ,why would RBI Target only paytm
What I have stated are not facts..They are rumours..There was a typo and now I rectified it.
And honestly, it's not illogical to think that as it's a fact that Jio Finance is soon getting into this UPI market.
And I definitely don't think there's anything like Ambani vs Adani atleast with respect to the differing businesses they are in. 😁
Not sure how you came up with that point.

Another case of tax terrorism and damaging of an amazing Indian company was Cafe Coffee Day (CCD), a better venture than starbucks. The founder director who made this company V.G. Siddhartha, had to commit suicide due to tax harrassment. This should stop! Current & previous governments of India have a legacy of hedging the companies as soon as it becomes big. Being big is only reserved for few elites. This is the reason, India don't have its own facebook, android, google, youtube, microsoft and so on. I hope governments get out of the mindset if they want to achieve number economy in the world by 2047.
