My 20 year old son has fought cancer for 6 years. He is near the end. This song is dear to his heart. So sorry my little boo boo stink. Dad loves you forever.
My name is Thomas, and I totally agree with you. I have a large patch stitched over a “softball size” hole in my stomach, due to three and a half decades of drug and alcohol abuse. Sadly, when my mother passed away in my stepdad’s arms, her last words on this earth was....”Please tell my baby boy to quit the drinking and the drugs!” Mama, I know you’re up there with our great creator, and I just wish you could see me now. July 16, I will be clean and sober.... for five years!!!! I only wish that it did not have to take my stomach, literally to explode.... before I heeded your words and took them to my heart, where they still remain today forever more!!!! It still kills me inside each and every day, that I did not do anything about it while you were still here with us on earth. The very last time we talked, I and only I should’ve been the one apologizing... not you. But, it took a very long time Mama, and I did it!!! I finally did it!!! I am always gonna love you, and I am always gonna miss you, and I am always gonna try to make you proud of me, especially after my last battle, I sure hope that you are proud. Yeah, the lyrics are deep and emotional, something that everyone has to go through, the feelings of inadequacy, hesitation, insecurity, loneliness and fear. And the way to process them, the need of encouragement and love from another person. And composed so even a young man could understand.
I agree completely. Don't know if it's really considered mental illness, but I grew up an extremely abusive home. Problem is when you grow up like that, he wanted up doing things to protect yourself. I've been out of that environment for a long time now, and I try to put a lot of distance between me and the person I was. But that kind of violence stains your soul, and the song describes it perfectly.
Oh my, this is the first time I've listened to this song. I don't know what to say. "...so hold me, until it sleeps."; this line made me CRY, literally cry my eyes out! Can't believe there's such an amazing song to describe how I've been feeling, to describe this very situation. Metallica Forever
I don't think Load and ReLoad are bad albums at all. If you plan on listening to them with a metal head mindset, you're going to be disappointed. They both have really good songs, lot's of bluesy riffs. The members of Metallica were in their mid to late 30's when they wrote it. A very confusing time for most men I believe. I personally love everything from Kill 'Em All to the Black album. 85% of Load and Reload, only one song from St. Anger though lol (title track) and I'd say about 85% of everything from Death Magnetic
It was different. It was an experimentation. It was sincere. They did not give a fuck about boundaries. That's what music should be. Haters can go fuck themselves.
Load was worthwhile just for the sake of 'Hero of the day', one of my favorite Metallica lyrics. Their music is so intense that people overlook what a great poet this guy is.
This song is clearly about "demons". Someone mentioned addiction, which is definitely a big one. But, "demons" come in many forms. Depression, to me is a demonic force, which overtakes a person; leaving them feeling worthless, useless, lacking of intelligence. Giving into those feelings, turning to any unhealthy behavior is "feeding" it; thus the line that says once you feed it, it stays. I have battled both of these demons during my life and this song does speak to me.
+Jang Soap it's a way of speaking of it i guess, i hope...it's like a demon, for the classical definition of demons, but in demons, i believe not for sure! In the demons of addiction and depression, you better believe :D
A lot of people are always asking the meaning behind the lyrics of this phenomenal song, James Hetfield refuses to explain it because he said once he wants it to be interpreted by whoever listens to it, for me I heard this song for the first time coming back from 3 months in a combat zone in Kosovo back in November of 1996, and the experience left me with a pretty severe case of combat related Post traumatic stress, and hearing this song summed up exactly how I was feeling and thinking, as if James Hetfield was inside my head, it's amazing, it's just a song bit was an important part of my healing process, I remember playing this song for my psychiatrist I saw at Portsmouth Naval Hospital outpatient PTSD clinic
A terrific song showing that there is a beast inside of people and can't release it and needing someone to help that problem until it sleeps and leaves you
Such powerful lyrics - hard to sometimes let it out in a healthy way...this song helps do that through amazing musicians...stay strong all, don't let it win!
This song has a good message about depression. It talks about what depression does to not only the person with depression, but the people who are there to help and how in the end it's you who must ultimately face your inner darkness, your inner demons and banish them yourself in order to start healing

Amongst Metallica fans, I feel a lot of them look at Load and Reload the same way Van Halen fans look at any albums with Sammy Hagar as front man. Personally I enjoy their 90’s albums. Obviously not as much as their 80’s work, but their style differentiated from that destruction, metal head thrash and mixed it with some themes about addiction, inner demons, etc. and I felt it made the band much more deep and complex. Metallica will forever be my favorite band.

foxy miko I’m doing great thank you. I have been blessed with a baby boy. I didn’t think I was able to have anymore kids after my testicular cancer but god continued to bless me
I've been listening to Metallica since as far as I can remember, I never heard this song from them, but this song actually plays on the radio all the time at my work, and I always have to turn it up when this one plays, this song sounds so sexy and killer, it gives me goosebumps all the time.
This song is fucking legendary! :3
This is the only song in the world that almost made me cry.
ALMOST? At 53, I blubber every time I hear it, but it hits home for me in so many different ways
I relate to every word in this song, It's like it's was written for me, For Anyone who has mental shit I Hope you will make it gone
This song really spoke to me today! I lost my daughter in Oct and I live with that pain everyday 😔 now my fiance was diagnosed with cancer. Very beautifully deep song ❤
been a Metallica fan since I was a little girl and this will forever be my all time favorite song!
Back when I was at Italy,I had a really bizzare moments. When I was listening this song while eating Rissoto,I accidentaly choked my spoon. What an ironic moment.

James Hetfield is one of the best metal voices....EVER. bring on the hate.
Mooky Blaylock Agreed
He’s good because he doesn’t really change his voice like a lot of metal bands it comes off smoother
Jason Talks Agreed! Metallica as a whole is a great band. I even love/enjoy there load and reload album's. Don't care what anyone says.

Honestly Metallica may seem poster metal but they raised me, been listening since age 6 , 32 now and this song is my go to when things are stressful. Don’t help it’s so catchy 🤟🏻tear me open .... sometimes the pain is a must..
Every perception that’s came through an emotional time is saved for review later. To anyone experiencing this and can’t sleep at night you are not alone! Have to change our thinking process and look for.the good in everything and live by doing good onto others! All the labels on people have to go first.
The Spirit never sleeps...

I lost a very close family member to addiction and he swore these lyrics screamed his life.
I'm sorry. I feel him. And you.
When I listen to this song, it makes me feel like I'm a horrible person because of the dangerous things that go inside my head. At the same time it gives me hope that I can exorcize them thoughts and go on with my life without hurting anyone.
I'm here because the music video makes me uncomfortable
Aren't we all?
***** Some songs are better to close your eyes and imagine than watch
+Hammer of Justice Crushes You OVERPOWER Not nearly as uncomfortable as the video One make me. Just sayin'.
+I Am Who I Am Pink Floyd music videos are pretty good, well, most of them.
+Hammer of Justice Crushes You OVERPOWER Try Closer by Nine Inch Nails.......^__^

Your first love passes. your friends pass, your likes/ dislikes pass, your job, your beer changes and so does your body. but one thing that for me that will NEVER change is METALLICA. the meaning of METALLICA FOR LIFE!
Rock and Roll will never die..but we surely will.
***** "Thrash Metal" my friend
Neithell this is Thrash Metal? wow how old are you 12?
Old Metallica YES- this? NO
***** THRASH metal man, not trash metal...lol
Unless you become rock and roll!
Sometimes you need to heal yourself with music🤘.

the four songs i listen to escape from my depression, sounds stupid and whiny but it's the truth and i'm not ashamed to admit it
Sweet addiction of mine - Rocking song, extremely addictive!
My father died from pancreatic cancer and this song always gives me a window into the pain he went through
love this song
"It hates you." The most forceful statement for me. Like I am possessed by a demon and its hate destroys me a little more each day. It will win when I am reduced to an empty shell.
For some reason my throat starts to hurt while listening to this.
first time i ever heard this song and i LOVE it its up there with mad world.
Never had cancer. But had a small heart attack. But to me this song means more than that. To me it's of heart break and pain others have caused.
To the 565 dislikers of this classic tune get a life, And get a education in music. Or just piss off.
nah, this song is about a man who got dumped. It's about a man who got dumped, and who needs someone to help him up from it. Addiction, depression... they're just symptoms of this. I can feel it.
I LOVE IT
One of the best songs of all times (for me)... 27 and still listening to it :)
Like most metallica fans I hated load and reload when they came out but now I really enjoy both there's some great songs on them
