There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this song. An absolute classic of it’s time.

I adore the song but the lyrics don't match the video - they could've made a much more hard-hitting and frankly devastating video if they'd been so inclined.

The music is decent. But the lyrics are 100% corned crap.

I loved this track so much that I drove my student flat mates insane by playing it over and over again. This track is the second best track of the 90's - only being beaten by the mighty St Ettiene's He's on he phone (Disco dancing heaven).

it takes me back to when I was 25 (I'm now 51) I moved out of my parents house and went to live with my girlfriend who was going to be my future wife and mother to my two amazing children and also my ex-wife lol.
We would go across to the local pub most nights and 90's songs would be on the jukebox so we're talking Oasis, blur etc and I'd heard this on the radio and found it on the jukebox so this was one which I would often chose.
    They were good times.

Unsettling, clever lyrics and claustrophobic sound to the song creates the tension that makes it so powerful. The 1990s in Blighty were mad: There was a real anti-American snobbery, everyone was crazy about football even if they weren't really, everyone took drugs, you drank crazily, page-3 glamour girls were the ladies of choice, the Royal family looked endangered, people actually read books, and being a pseudo intellectual didn't get you ostracised.
Thank God it is all over. Love this song, though. I wanted to marry the lead singer when I was a kid.

    The wind's whistling
    My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
    When the doorbell strangely rang
Because I've been up here for a while
I'm starting to feel the monotony of the tower block
    I'm not so manic now
I can uphold the weight of those neighbours
And she's lifting and throwing to the wall
    The post-natal harmonies of youth
    When this younger man, twenty-five
    Advantageously took away her pride
    The wind's whistling
    My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
    When the doorbell strangely rang
I staggered shaking slowly to the door
Through the frosted panel I could see you
Your intentions as a salesman truly cush
You endeavoured as a psycho just to push
And whilst lifting and throwing to the wall
My puny structure of an ageing OAP
No reason why you chose my flat
    Breathing deeply in a trance
    The wind's whistling
    My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
    When the doorbell strangely rang
I'm not so manic now (not so manic now)
I'm not so manic now (not so manic now)

Does anyone else recognise the keyboard motif from the instrumental section of The Cinema Show by Genesis?

The beats aside, this is so like something The Smiths or early solo Morrissey would have done

Yes there were so many bands in the 90s that had their hands in Morrisseys pockets ..
This is of course a cover, as the other guy said. I like both versions but prefer the orig .

As a pensioner I was quite frightened listening to this pop record. I imagined that I could be targeted for an attack and battered by a cocky Virgin Broadband Salesman. Luckily I moved to Sky BB and could speak to a lovely Indian gent named Stephen. I was then able to make a cuppa tea and rest assured that I was safe from a pensioner beating and potential elderly rape. Thumbs up !!
