He mentions that he lives in a studio, so presumably its a condominium, and not 'his' home (since he doesn't actually own the building or even the studio). It reminds me of an old episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off, Angel. Angel confronts an old vampire slayer who was his enemy long ago while standing just outside the hunter's hotel room. The hunter remarks that he is so old he no longer remembers if vampires can enter the room of an inn/hotel, and Angel replies that anyone can rent a hotel room, making the entire structure technically open to the public, as he enters the room uninvited.
