I miss when Michael made videos. He was a critical part of my teenage years. I would stay up half the night learning about things I never could have conceptualized
I've got a slightly innovative hack I used to use when I was a kid. Take two sheets of paper place one on top of the page and one on the bottom with a bit of space in between to see that section of the page. Move both pages down little by little while scanning and with much less "visual noise" in the way you'll find Waldo consistently faster.
The fun in Where's Waldo is not finding Waldo but finding his campanions, items, and looking at the fun and goofy scenes unfolding on the page. I loved these books as a kid.
Imagine going to university for 10 years across two different universities on either side of the country, getting a BS of computer science with Honors and a PhD in computer science with a dual major in ecology and evoluntionary biology, and then using all that knowledge and expertise to create an algorithm for _Where's Waldo?_ books. Dude is living life like a main character.
Humans are notoriously bad at being random. This dude wrote an algorithm stratergy that can be applied to AI. To help police and special forces determin in a crowd where a terrorist most likely entering, going and exiting and so on. That's the real cool part.
It's much nicer and cinematic the opposite way. Be denied your whole liftetime, have no formal education and make breaking discovery and enter the pantheon of greatest minds like Foucault, Galois, Banach...
Ngl not knowing one thing you made can be used for other of the same exact stuff is kinda insane like if you never find out someone can just make you think one thing your whole life
I was never that great at finding Waldo but I still loved these books just to look at the pictures. There was always funny little things going on in the background with all the random characters.
a lot of the books didn't just task the reader with finding Waldo, but also his dog and the wandering wizard, among other things. The real fun of the books is looking at all the art
I had a scavenger hunt book for the X-men when I was a kid. In each scene you had a list of certain things to find. Some of them were closer to riddles too I think like "find out who stole the whatever" and you'd spend a good length of time on every page trying to find all of the items and seeing all of the Easter eggs in the art. It was amazing as a kid.
I think Waldo is currently moving through the multiverse, trying to find the fastest way into our reality so he can hunt down everyone who has ever looked for him.
"Well done, detective. It seems you've gotten an ally with you, who is this fellow acquaintance of yours?" "Hey Vsauce! Micheal here. Where can you run, Waldo?"
