Hi Kevin, I use Veniards thinners to go with their varnish to help keep it from getting too thick, it will last you a long time if you do this...I have attached a link to it for you to see..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie www.fishersdirect.com/veniard-unitit-thinners-18742-p.asp
There's a vintage shop down your way in Mauchline, Davie. I've bought a few things from them now. This morning I asked if they ahd any fly tying stuff "just out of interest" New to me, brass fly tying vice coming my way next week and I hold you responsible! 🤣 Would you recommend any books to get an idea of which flies to use in which localities during the various months or should I just find someone like yourself locally and buy him whiskey? Thanks for all the inspiration. Out of interest, where do you buy your supplies?
Hi @BigGoucho, I didn't know there was a vintage shop in Mauchline, I might drop by one day and have a look myself.. It's great to hear that I have inspired you enough to start tying your own flies, if you could give me an idea where and what you fish then I could send you links to some videos that would get you started and as well where to buy locally or online to find the right materials to buy as I do buy from all over the place... All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail hiya Davie. Thanks for such a kind reply. I'm down in Lesmahagow and the Nethan flows past pretty much where I live. I don't know if it's a permission water and I also don't know what's in it. I was gifted an Airflow fly rod setup by an old colleague and I'm fed up with it sitting gathering dust, especially after watching your wee rainy Sunday morning jaunts out to the Doon. That could just as easily be me on the Nethan, getting out of the missus's way for a few hours. To be honest I'm a complete newcomer to all this. I'm a schemie fisherman who's used to catching nappies and old bikes up the Forth and Clyde Canal in and around Glasgow. I couldn't tell you which fish look for what and when and even when they're on the move but I'm looking forward to learning. The shop, by the way, is called Nae Se New. It's about three floors in an old leatherworks or something in Mauchline. I'm planning a trip down at the end of the month. I clocked a nice old looking centrepin reel and a few wee other bits and bobs. I've already bought a few things off them. If you go I've no doubt you'll see something that catches your eye. Thanks a lot and tight lines to you, Davie. 🙂🍺🍻 William.
nice looking fly ! i wonder if the sea trout which are ignoring my shrimps and streamers whilst rising and even jumping over my flyline will take it . i just dont have the confidence to fish something this small in the open sea but perhaps tonight i will give a team of small wets a swim in the salt
@@timpus72 will give it a shot ! everything i read says the seatrout in the sea in summer are always after bigger meals but since i am getting nowhere with fish jumping over my fly line in cases i might just give small flies a chance this evening

Lovely tying Davy ,perfectly explained as per 👌 I've never seen one but looks really effective . Thanks again mate. Love it.😊
I don't fish traditional wets (something I need to remedy), but I always appreciate how wonderful they look in a fly box.

During summer you must use smaller flies. Try very fast retrieve as well
