The conclusion is that on the whole, the public forum is not a suitable place for informed and careful debate - pointless, angry, disppointing and full of errors. Too bad...
'The conclusion is that on the whole, the public forum is not a suitable place for informed and careful debate' Her excuse was that what she wrote was the 'first draft.' Whether or not 'the public forum' is suitable is moot in this case, given that what she wrote was so catastrophically ham-handed and thoughtless.

Agree with you entirely. Much more is being made of this than was really there. But Abbott only has herself to blame. As a politician, she should have been only too well aware of what she was letting herself in for. A very dangerous topic.

I might sound nieve (I probably am) but if she is condemned for saying so isn't that going against her freedom of speech? Can you be ostracised or condemned for a belief? Surely not as that would put us back in the dark ages.
Imagine the draft of the draft of the draft letter. Or even try to image what Diane Abbott really thinks in her head. Pretty sure as with all letters that get shared it’s what the author thinks is the most palatable version of their opinion at the time

I am writing from Australia where we have our own racism problems. Racism is not just an Anglo - Saxon problem about Jews. Nor is it about Gypsies (euphemistically called Traveller peoples now). In the UK the Cymru are known as Welsh. The term Welsh or Wealas means foreigner. The peculiar development of villages of towns and villages (particularly in England) from purely Welsh or Anglo-Saxon, mixed Anglo-Saxon/Welsh is known. The advent of the Normans in the UK (I say the UK because they effected Wales, Scotland and England) added a new level of prejudice. I do not agree with Abbott and her conclusions as they colour based but she raises issues that must be discussed.
This just proves that diversity isn't a strength and that diversity causes more division. The more groups you have the more likely there is for division. Why the English put up with this is beyond me.
I have no time for Abbott whatsoever, but what has she said that is so bad. Stifling opinions is far more dangerous than being open and honest and most people unless complete idiots anyway, can discern between an opinion (even if they find it offensive) and truly dangerous speech calling for violence etc. I think this is all a bit hypocritical from most in politics and media as they don't seem to care too much about the revelations of white men being denied positions in RAF as an example. It doesn't seem to bother too many that the seemingly benign removal of anything deemed to be of 'Colonial' within everything from education to literature is a step on the road to something else. It's part of a stage to something much worse. Diane Abbott has by this insinuated that others do not experience racism as black people do, that is her hobby horse but at least she's up front and not trying to please everyone which is nigh on impossible.

I just don't think what she's said is antisemitism or evidence of her being anti semetic. It's definitely antisemitism *denial* as the guest said. And that's enough to be kicked out for sure because it's dangerous and incorrect. And for any UK politician to claim travellers and gypsies are treated in anything other than a racist fashion is blinkered to the point of total obliviousness. But it's not hostile or calling for hostility which is what anti- implies. Baroness Warsi is able to make the separation between racist rhetoric and direct racism in a much more sinister situation than a mere letter to a news paper, and I think the same separation applies here: as does the need for resignation/sacking. I think Diane abbot does need removal over this wrong but not malicious letter, and I FOR SURE think braverman has no business being in office.
Racism is just one form of bigotry - irrational prejudice against a racial group, or a collection of racial groups. The problem with apparent bigotry is that it's usually difficult or impossible to know if the prejudice is irrational or rational. In the latter case, the apparent bigotry wouldn't be bigotry at all, just good sense.
Leopold 2nd killed 11 million in the Congo alone… where’s the outrage when Celebrities, Monarchy, Ministers, News Media all constantly make derogatory remarks about Afrikans?
Good point. It is the white supremacists who think they can "give" themselves Palestine who have the real hierarchy of racism. White people exterminate the Caribbean inhabitants; white people exterminate the North American inhabitants (and the Australians); all these are classed as minor errors, or as mistakes. White people start exterminating each other in 1940's Europe, and THAT IS THE ONLY MASSACARE WHICH COUNTS.
Not sure when Leopold II made any derogatory remarks about...errr....'Afrikans' given that he was *Belgian* and died over a hundred years ago and the topic here is *britain.* But nice whattaboutism.
Diane Abbots letter did nothing more than state a few objective facts based on events that have actually happened. To call this 'offensive' is akin to holocaust denial.
Are you sane? She tried to compare being a Jew or Gypsy to being red-headed and gave an example of having to sit at the back of a bus in America in the 50s/60s whilst ignoring the Holocaust. She's all about hierarchies of victimhood and can't bear to mention anything outside her narrative that it's all about skin colour and nothing other than the experience of people who are the same skin colour as she is counts.
It's an objective fact that discrimination faced by jews, irish travellers and so on is equivalent to discrimination faced by....redheads? Which 'events that have actually happen' was that referring to?
Isn't there a level of hypocrisy in this. He talks about not introducing a level of hierarchy in racism, but yet labels it as antisemitic, surely then you are ignoring the travellers and Irish and by doing so are actually talking about a hierarchy by focusing on one group. I think it was a poor letter, and don't defend it, but the context was in a response to specific points of another letter. But there was nothing antisemitic about it. We can't overlook the dangerousness of calling something antisemitic when it isn't, this clearly wasn't antisemitic. The interviewer did a good job, when mentioning about Abbotts point about not "experiencing racism every day". If I'm to be kind to Abbott, maybe that is what she is getting at. Most Jews and Travellers are not instantly identifiable as a group physically, Blacks and Asians are. There isn't an issue with all groups being frequently stopped when driving. So there are differences for sure. That doesn't mean that they don't all suffer discrimination in some way, but there are differences. As a gay man (with red hair), and Jewish sounding lastname, most strangers would not know, so the discrimination I receive is in very limited circumstances.
So in her view, and the view of the left in general. Is if you didn't experience racism in America in the 60s then you never experienced racism at all. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

@@mariogmajner6549 Your Far Left Ideology has no place in Britain
@@DarkFire515 There are legal definitions in every country about discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, ethnic group etc. The UK law does have a weak definition of race which is quite pointless and actually wrong in places. Race as a concept has been dropped in science, because there is no genetic evidence to justify the concept. I am more than a little shocked that the UK has failed to move beyond the last century in its legal formulations. Very depressing to see. How old is she? No one her age could make this apology and be believed by any but the most gullible.
This is how labour and it's supporters actually think!! It flows through socialist parties, always has done.
Both a mix of horrendous bad writing and lack of understanding and content. I think she wanted to talk about daily racism but use horrible comparisons to big and heavy events and experiences as comparisons which was not equivalent nor right.
How are Israelites being accused of being racist.?
A number of disappointments follow from this issue: i) so many people don't read what's written and instead jump to ill-informed assumptions, ii) there are those who will seize on trigger words to advance ther own agenda even when it has little bearing on the subject, iii) loud voices continue to drown out the established track record of key figures. The conclusion is that on the whole, the public forum is not a suitable place for informed and careful debate - pointless, angry, disppointing and full of errors. Too bad...
I think a legal discussion is a good start.
'The conclusion is that on the whole, the public forum is not a suitable place for informed and careful debate'
Her excuse was that what she wrote was the 'first draft.'
Whether or not 'the public forum' is suitable is moot in this case, given that what she wrote was so catastrophically ham-handed and thoughtless.

What is disappointing is people defending her thoughts and words. I'm white and have suffered racism by black folk. That shouldn't be watered down to become a "prejudice".
Agree with you entirely. Much more is being made of this than was really there. But Abbott only has herself to blame. As a politician, she should have been only too well aware of what she was letting herself in for. A very dangerous topic.
Reaction completely overblown. People should be allowed opinions right or wrong. Fight it with explaination.

Firstly I don't love Diane Abbot, she is a silly woman that has to be congratulated for getting as far as she had in the political world, that said, her being a holocaust disbeliever (I'm NOT a holocaust disbeliever) is surely on the same lines as a flat earther, if they believe it then they believe it. I might sound nieve (I probably am) but if she is condemned for saying so isn't that going against her freedom of speech? Can you be ostracised or condemned for a belief? Surely not as that would put us back in the dark ages.
If you want to know who rules you, ask who are you not allowed to criticise ? People are fed up with the hypocrisy about Israel and the Jews .

It's sickening that so many people voted for Corbyn/Abbott despite these views being clear for years.
I'm certainly not advocating they should have voted Conservative but there were other options out there.
I'm glad this is finally being cut out of the Labour Party, I sincerely hope they don't reinstate the whip.
Most people don't care about cultural issues, politics is a game of economic circumstance that's dressed up in culture wars. people voted Abbott and corbyn because they represent their economic interest.

The treatment the Palestinian are getting of the Jews need debating
Never trust labour, never
I am writing from Australia where we have our own racism problems. I do not agree with Abbott and her conclusions as they colour based but she raises issues that must be discussed.
its now exclusively jewish.

What she said broke the law. She is a lawyer so she really should have known.

And for any UK politician to claim travellers and gypsies are treated in anything other than a racist fashion is blinkered to the point of total obliviousness.

Bigotry and racism are two different things.
Not sure when Leopold II made any derogatory remarks about...errr....'Afrikans' given that he was *Belgian* and died over a hundred years ago and the topic here is *britain.*

Who else in the Labour party has shown anti-Semitism? Your title is slanderous
Which 'events that have actually happen' was that referring to?
do you have any proof of the exdous
😂😂😂😂😂 course it does. 😂😂😂😂🤡
