Great review - confident informative dialogue, no mumbling and no awkward pauses. Everything I need to know for my installation. I wish more were like this.
@You're Not That Guy Yes of course, provided you have paired it to the Router first, i have an old Pc connected to my Disc because im to tight to buy a wifi card for it.
Have BT's Ultrafast 2 connection which is about 300mbps, got 3 of the discs around the house and it works spot on with the lowest speed in the house being 160-170mbps
I have Installed many of them and I can confirm smart Hub 2 wifi coverage just by itself is far more superior than smart hub1. Discs mesh is just a bonus .
Hi i have been a bt customer for years i got my wi fi disc added yesterday in my bedroom as i have poor signal in there all fine and hopefully all goes well
Please help! I have sky i get 0.5 mbps. It goes 100+ times a day from 15m. Im not sure on what to get, since sometimes i get less then what im supposed to get! What if im not getting the right amount im paying for?
Got mine yesterday so far so good plus my son loves it as the discs have an ethernet port so the one in his bedroom is a now hooked up to his Xbox no more hearing him moan about it lagging when he's playing games!
I give up connecting the disc. Got as far as moving the disc to where I wanted it and that was it. Sat waiting 15 minutes with the light flashing red before I gave in waiting for a solid blue light.
Could anyone help, I've got a bt hub 5 and speeds of around 5mbps download and about 1 upload. If I was to get this how would I get this package and for 10pounds a month like you said?
Hi. I'm a BT employee. I would suggest you to call on 0800 800 150 and speak with the value team. Ask them if you can complete wifi. But the pricing has not been clear here. Basically it'll be 10 pounds extra. So for example if you pay 29.99 being in a contract with us, then complete wifi will cost 39.99 a month.
Just so the older versions like the logo on disc on your video on Ebay and some of the newer BT logo, would they still be compatible with the current BT Smart Hub 2?
I've just received my BT disc to improve my wifi connection as I was getting too much 'page loading' and stopping & stuttering, even though my laptop is in the same room as my hub2. I have connected the disc to my hub as per instructions, and it appears to be the same as in your video, but no light comes on the disc. Are all hdmi cables the same? I don't remember receiving one with my hub, but i already had one that I used to connect my old desktop to the internet. Could this be the cause of the problem? ETA: Found what I think might be the original cable, plugged it in and the light has come on! So we shall see if there's any improvement. I have noticed that these discs sell for £110 online, so are BT charging me this within my monthly payments?
I upgraded recently I had a lot of problems the problem was old wiring from BT eventually they gave the engineers authority to remove the old wires and this was after calling out engineers four times, but problem was fixed and it works awesome speed is amazing 70 + luckily I had a nice lady from BT kept in contact and helped me through the problem and was given £20 refund and another disc sent to me also £109 credit for all the problems. If they sort the old wires out it’s fine hopefully they will soon or they will get bare complaints, otherwise bang on now for streaming and gaming 👍
Below somone says they connect direct to one of the discs for there son...can this be done so it becomes a plugged in connection as my daughter needs it for her work? The engineer didnt say we could do this.
I have a room near the garden where the connection has always been bad on previous hubs. Plugged in the disk and placed it in this room but it's stuck on an orange light, shouldn't it be blue? It's far away from the main hub in the living room.
78mbps BT supply and we're having massive problems even on zoom. It's a new build and has firbre to the door. The TV is 2 metres from the router and even that periodically shows the pink refresh circle of doom. I've taken to twitter to actually get BT to do something about it and so far no joy!
I'm also on virgin media had it since December and their routers are shit but they seem to think its the all singing and dancing shit, I'm that fed up with them i wont see out my 18 month contract and ill be cancelling the direct debit ill deal with them hypocrites when they send me demanding letters of unpaid bills then ill take them to an ombudsman because they don't seem to listen to what they are told
I’m getting FTTP installed on Thursday, 330 down & 50 up. Can I plug the disc into my PC’s Ethernet port in the bedroom and connect it to Wi-fi from the router in the livingroom instead of using a home plug like we currently do?
For the distribution of wi-fi BT’s mesh system works a treat. I have 3 disks. However, what is happening is if 3 people use the internet that 40mbps leaving the router is divided by 3. That kind of makes sense. However, the way it is advertised it appears these distribution disks are boosters and this is clearly not the case. However if 1 person wants to get wi-fi in different parts of the house it is perfect. Better still would be to get an electrician to put Ethernet sockets throughout your house directly connected to your router.
Have 330mbps download and 50mbps upload but the wireless sucks with only 20mbps in most rooms so we upgraded to this and it solved the wifi issue perfectly we now have constant wifi speed of 150mbps or more it is definitely worth using them. Btw been using them for 3 months now never have any issues
Like most extenders speed is not a problem instead the latency is what causes problems with certain games. Can some pls let me know if these discs allow the same latency and jitter of the router?
Hey all, I upgraded to BT Halo 2 about 8 months ago and was sent the new Smart Hub 2 to replace my BT Home Hub 3. My predicament is this. The BT Home Hub 3, whilst pretty old now, is compact, small and sits very discretely on my home office desk. The new Smart Hub 2 is bigger and hence I've been reluctant to use it because I feel it will look too big and cumbersome on my desk. The irony in this is that I've upgraded to Halo 2 but, because I'm still using the old Home Hub 3, I don't think I'm getting any of the benefits of the faster service, provided by Halo 2. Am I right by this everyone? Has anyone else upgraded from Home Hub 3 to the Smart Hub 2 and how have you found the size of the new router? Should I just take the plunge and get the new Smart Hub setup? Appreciate advice and comments here. Thanks all.
They will also send you extra discs if you still have Wi-Fi black spots and if you go into the smart hub settings online you can limit certain devices to the amount of time they can be online or even turn them off all together good for those of us that have kids and dont want to turn the whole wifi off when they shouldn't be on it lol
Can I just have the disk on it own without having a smart hub? Just because there are no available ports in the street cabinet to connect my smart hub to. I’ve had SO MANY ISSUES WITH BT.
Hi there I connected all these things up, the router works ok but the disc, the red light is flashing all the time, I did get it to flash blue, then it flashed red again, have no signal on phone, any ideas, do you have to do anything on the phone to couple it....Fred in Essex.
I have the smart hub 1 and it works ok I have 300mb down and 49mb up with by ultrafast 2 with fttp. Was wondering if getting the smart hub two would improve anything in anyway?
With my hubs I dropped CAT5e into the rooms and plugged the disks in via a switch to a router in modem mode, for me this was the best solution however I recommend purchasing them from ebay rather than subscription. Bear in mind these hubs have no back haul acting as a WIFi mesh, therefore I wouldn't recommend them for an advanced set up.
BT just offered to send me this new hub for free supposedly as they saw that my old router was faulty and was the problem of my connection dropping a lot during a day. I do hope it corrects the problem.
You can always buy your own I did in my last house, wasnt these discs my others were white. Not tech savvy at all they prob werent as good but before you order and pay for any just ring them. I'm glad I did I didnt have to pay anything extra at all and I'm covered with the guarantees which I dont think you get without an upgrade. Worth a call hope this helps x
A dramatic improvement. I used to get 200MB at the Hub 2 router but after 2m it dropped off a lot. Mostly down to 30 MB. A new contract reduced the phone to PAYG (who uses a landline these days). Downgraded the speed to 100MB but added complete WI Wi. Now a fantastic 130 MB everywhere. Guaranteed 100MB. The disc is cheap and nasty, the legs dropped off! Only one small circuit board. Horrid bulky black transformer plug. But it really works. The app is great. Set up is a doddle.
I have been a BT customer for years now and found there internet for gaming and streaming brilliant and at the moment i am on the Halo 1 package. But since they released Halo 2 my internet dips at times now causing the dreaded buffering ring going around and round, so i was reading some where that they have the capability to be able to affect your internet to thinking one would need a better package is this true i am not sure. But if like you the new one resolves your issue that's awesome, bad to think the UK has one of the worst internet speeds in the world and the further you go up Scotland the worse it gets.
I got a question, I have connected the disk, but My router is at the front of my house. I have my room in the far back of my house. Approximately 10-15 meters away from the router. I put the disc in my bedroom and can I connect the ethernet cable from my disc to my PC?
Just installed mine had nothing but grief. Losing internet the curser on my phone just spinning I put the previous one back no issues wasn't good for me.
Do you need to have the disk connected to the router? Or once it is set up and paired you can unplug it from the router and move it to the other side of the house?
We just can’t break 30mbps in this house. Tried basically everything to fix it. If someone else in the house streams anything the wifi tanks for everybody. Tried contacting BT who factory reset our hub but to no avail it didn’t help.
No, you connect it to the router for the initial set up, then unplug and then go put it where u want it in the house then its wireless apart from the power plug from there.
Couple of questions if anyone has the answer. Once I connect it to the hub with an ethernet cable to the disc, once I move the disc it doesn't have to be plugged in to the ethernet still does it? Which leads me onto my next question, once you have moved the disc into position, does it have the be on the same electrical circuit as the router? As I know with my powerline connectors it has to be on the same circuit! Thanks guys
Luke G. that’s amazing. i’m in preston.(A CITY) and with the bt super fibre 2 paying nearly £80 a month and getting a max of 30mbps through ethernet straight into the router. wireless upstairs around 15mps. bt hub 6 aswell
Alex Fisher maybe your unlucky with the cabinet or there is just a lot of people on the line. I’m in a small town of 8k people so the internet is very good. 75 download over WiFi and Ethernet and with bt smart hub. Only £30 a month over here. Just internet and line rental
why does it appear that the smart hub 2 won't accept 172.16.16.0/20 as a network? ...only 172.16.16.0/16 ??? ...as for the disk, - VERY USEFUL!!! ...for the first time EVER my ENTIRE SYSTEM connects WIRELESSLY!!!
I have this package and have placed one disc in my room which is connected to my Xbox via Ethernet cable and another disc downstairs in my living room and the hub is downstairs. For some reason when Netflix and now tv are on downstairs it makes my ping worse in my room. Any suggestions on how to fix?
Of other people are streaming it's always going to effect your ping. With homehub you unfortunately can't prioritise connections. You'd need a new router.
BeginnersTech ok thanks for the advice. Was just wondering about power line adaptors. Do they help if I had one plugged in to the router and the other one into my Xbox obviously via Ethernet cable?
If I am on Smart Hub 1 , can I not get and internet extended into another room?? Why should I have to pay £10 every month. BT are charging arm and a leg for packages anyway
Sent mine back and I had three it was very poor I bought two Netgear WiFi range extender it works great and it's a one off payment £34 don't believe BT telling you it will never be has good it's 100% better
BT has been charging my elderly parents £60 a month for years for a max download speed of 17megabits / 2.1MB/s and rarely used land line, they never bothered to inform them there is a new hub or offer any upgrades, we just got on to them and they dropped the price £37.99 also including these disks. still seams high
Same, I have 2 disks and on average I get anywhere from 10-20 megabits, internet is slow. This is after we had just a hub and the previous hub had much faster speeds. BT charges you more for slower speeds, the thing is that they are the only provider in my area that we can get. BT often fails to inform us when there are new products etc. If you call them about it your internet will improve for about 3-5 days then it goes crap again I’ve read multiple reviews/studies and it seems that they throttle you so that they can get the maximum amount of money out of their customers.
I actually bought 4 boosters as the wifi in my house is piss poor. They helped a little bit but nowhere to the extent this package has mate. I get same speed upstairs now aswell and dont have to hear my 2 kids bloody moaning lol I nearly gave up tbh cos every time I called them about the problems I had with the wifi they couldnt fix it because they only guarantee the service upto the main router. This package guarantees my wifi or I can leave without a cancellation fee and also claim from them. Not had a problem thus far.
I have had the same problem the last few months. Just ordered the new hub and disc so I'll check it out tomorrow hopefully. Plus if you ring BT you'll often get a better deal. I was offered the new equipment for an extra £7.00 per month and after speaking to someone got it down to £1.00 extra. 👍
"go ahead and" "went ahead and" Both of these are entirely redundant phrases that I hear used repeatedly by some reviewers. If you think about it, every sentence can be improved by removing these three words. Without them, the sentence still makes sense and gets to the point faster.
Im switching from virgin to bt as i dont really care about download speed but is good for updates and that i only really care about ping and every game i play i get the lag symbol and im teleporting 24 7 so i have to say do not buy virgin i had the 108 mbps bundles and got around 4 2 mbps second and about 600kbs for upload but does stoop lower the customer service is poor fibre is terrible and all and all its inconsistent
that bad i was told virgin are the best for gaming, is there anybody else that does faster speeds in uk ? im thinking of going with bt as we are with talktalk and im getting lag in discord game juttering terrible and we are on 70mbps mike
@@BeginnersTech Same here haha, I only get 42mbps down and about 12 up but I pay £50 a month lol. Waiting for Virgin Media to come to my area so i can get 350+ for the same price
I didnt either. I think if you're almost ready for renewal it could possibly be a few quid cheaper. They let me renew 3 months before the end of my last contract aswell. The advisor was great I'm not usually 1 for joining in these discussions but I cant say anything bad about this package at all. I dont even have full fibre to my door yet either I think it's about 54 on a good day!

Luke G. that’s amazing. i’m in preston.(A CITY) and with the bt super fibre 2 paying nearly £80 a month and getting a max of 30mbps through ethernet straight into the router. wireless upstairs around 15mps. bt hub 6 aswell
My internet looking good but lagging in games?
Same here my bt wifi is dreadful
Mine has 0- 20 Ping and not laggy
If you're using WiFi to play games, you're doing it wrong. You need to use a wired Ethernet connection to ensure consistent and stable ping.
What about if I play games on my phone because it keeps lagging
My hub is pink and won't go blue help
Great help ( roooter please for us UK bods!)
I've already gotnit
Does the disc need to be relatively close to the router, if so how close?
My discs are all around my house so they can be anywhere really
BeginnersTech do they boost the WiFi or act like another router?
Can you help me? My hub is orange and when I turned it off and on it started clicking
Orange is good. It means it has connected to the main box (usually white and attached to the wall).
Cost?
Great
Thanks bro
If I am on Smart Hub 1 , can I not get and internet extended into another room?? Why should I have to pay £10 every month. BT are charging arm and a leg for packages anyway
I have this and I only get 16mbps download
Sent mine back and I had three it was very poor I bought two Netgear WiFi range extender it works great and it's a one off payment £34 don't believe BT telling you it will never be has good it's 100% better
Im in Manchester and im on BT. The highest download speed ive managed is 3.4mps.
6mbs down 0.7mbs up. Virgin are just finishing cabling my street.
Dang
Don't go with virgin, had nothing but issues with their equipment & service!
"I'm getting half the speed in my office", bro atleast you are getting speeds in the Mbps.
So hard being Scottish and having to concentrate to pronuciate 🤣🤣
Can't you just get a non-BT WiFi booster instead?
Yeah
I actually bought 4 boosters as the wifi in my house is piss poor. They helped a little bit but nowhere to the extent this package has mate. I get same speed upstairs now aswell and dont have to hear my 2 kids bloody moaning lol
I nearly gave up tbh cos every time I called them about the problems I had with the wifi they couldnt fix it because they only guarantee the service upto the main router. This package guarantees my wifi or I can leave without a cancellation fee and also claim from them. Not had a problem thus far.
Just so yall know you can easily stream 1080p with just 5mbps on any app like netflix or youtube
BRUH I TRY TO STREAM AND PLAY GAMES AND MY INTERNET DISCONNECT EVERY 5 MINS
You still getting this problem? I'm looking to switch from virgin ( absolutely dog shit ) mostly for games & Netflix.
@@geo_104 yes i still am
@@benan4o417 bollocks. Back to the drawing board. Cheers.
When you say "peace" you defo flipped us all off..
am i the only one that get rubbish internet with bt
I have had the same problem the last few months. Just ordered the new hub and disc so I'll check it out tomorrow hopefully. Plus if you ring BT you'll often get a better deal. I was offered the new equipment for an extra £7.00 per month and after speaking to someone got it down to £1.00 extra. 👍
Cheshire Homebrew is the hub and disc working good for you? Also if you game is it fast?
No
"go ahead and"
"went ahead and"
Both of these are entirely redundant phrases that I hear used repeatedly by some reviewers. If you think about it, every sentence can be improved by removing these three words. Without them, the sentence still makes sense and gets to the point faster.
Oh shut and get lost grammar police
Uncover it don’t be shy 😂
Haha walls are thick!!!;) "Like her maaaa;)" MATT "SCOTTIE" TECH! Only Love!
@@michaelm1keyhardy865 I had talktalk fibre n it was brilliant for gaming
@@wakaflockaproject gone with virgin now get 234mbps and a low ping on 9 happy so far
i just use ethernet cable on virgin 390 mps down 30 mbp up :D as
im hard core Forrtnite
BT only service in my area and I have to speed available. Hopefully see superfast soon
@@BeginnersTech Same here haha, I only get 42mbps down and about 12 up but I pay £50 a month lol. Waiting for Virgin Media to come to my area so i can get 350+ for the same price
Did you say you have to pay an extra £5 a month ??????? why
Tom Feeney I just revived my one today I didn’t have to pay extra all i payed is the package fee that’s £9.99
That's the wrong way round with the fingers for 'peace' you're actually saying 'p*ss off'. Great vid though thanks for sharing.
Haha 😂 that's how I do lol
@@BeginnersTech I don't know where you live but down in London that'd get you into a fight! ;-)
It must be different in scotland
My download on average is .4 to .9 upload is .3 to .5 what a load of crap
My current wifi in Newcastle upon tyne is 2mbps. They say I can get 59mbps lol Im literally paying £27 a month ffs this is sky btw
Funny that we have to pay for internet and then have to pay more to get said internet working in our houses ._.
