I wish I'd known about art journaling back in the day when I could travel, and did. I'd love, now, to have that memory of my times in the Carribean region. My memories grow dimmer as time passes. Now days, my travel is a commute where I'm driving and so my attention is on the road and never really get to see the world.
I traveled to be with family this past weekend and returned home by sharing a ride with my brother who enjoys taking less-than-direct routes and back roads. Good conversation, interesting landscapes and a stop at a roadside eatery made for such an enjoyable 3-hour journey. Even simple trips have the power to change the ‘regularity’ of our daily lives. Another terrific discussion to start my week - thank you.
My camera broke at Big Bend National Park, so I drew pictures as much as I could. That experience, back in 1982, is more vivid in my brain, forty years later, than things I did a week ago.
Also if you draw something, the relationship between your hand and your brain causes deep rooted impressions. I.e. when you struggle to recall a word we use hand gestures to try and draw it out of the deep wells of our vocabulary….. which is also why I love handwriting more than typing as well.
This has been my favorite of your podcasts so far. I’m going to download it so I can hear it again. TMI for one sitting! Keep going, guys, I appreciate this so much!
So appreciate this conversation. Art making: living the analog v digital. I’m so inspired to live this present moment and yet make memories more memorable via art journaling. Oh, and, love the concept of art itself being a journey. Great stuff!
Another great discussion to start my week…never underestimate even the shortest of adventures and journeys that have the power to change the regularity of daily living - if you are present in those moments, Thank you.
I greatly enjoy these thought provoking discussions. I’ve gotten a lot out of them already and look forward to many more. I missed the title of the poem you read during this one, something about the man by a river, but couldn’t find it when I searched. Could you post it please, I would like to read it. Thank you!
I love your examples of what you two draw when traveling. With my black and white brain, I would have tended to think my trip *starts* at the destination...not now! Airplane wheels, airplane food, fellow passengers, suitcases...here I come! Alaska cruise 8/22-yippppeee! I'm growing to really like John Muir Laws, it took several podcasts \(°o°)/.

Even if your not an artist, your chats are interesting to listen to
Love your conversational meanderings.

When in Rome do as the Romans do. Great conversation as always. Loved the poem. I missed poem time.

When I lived in Washington DC I looked forward to shopping in Manahawkin NJ when traveling to see my parents in Beach Haven.
Danny, I hope you got to spend time in Sedona and the Grand Canyon. I lived in Sedona years ago. It was awesome

I’ve heard that we don’t remember an incident but rather a memory of that incident. Drawings do a better job.
