  • Random ramblings about collecting, investing, and John Browning's self-loading rifle. It's rare, unique, and still seems like a bargain. In world where less than 130,000 were ever made, compared to something like 7,000,000 94 Winchesters, this old rifle deserves its cult following.

My Model 8 was made 1 month after the Titanic sank. It’s also a .30 Rem I did manage to find 3 boxes of old Imperial Ammo and that company has been defunct for decades. It’s shoots fabulous and dead accurate, I just love it.

I picked up a couple boxes of .30 Rem a week or so after I put this up. About a dollar a round. Just waiting now for the snow to melt so I don't lose any brass.

They are so well built they stand out in a rack. I have the .30 Remington. Have some Precision Cartridge rounds, but usually buy .32 Remington brass from Grafs and run it through a 30-30 next die, and trim it up. Good to go.

I love these guns don't care if the market value is low for them if any thing that's good because I can afford more of them and I can enjoy them.

I picked up a Remington 30. Cal auto loader 3 years ago a 1910 , In 1911 they started calling them model 8 . I had it reblued and a small crack in stock fixed it's now in great condition for 113 years old. I love your collection of these fine pieces of historical art great guns

Beautiful rifles. The 30-30 Remington is interesting for sure. Its amazing how long these quality items last in comparison to all the junk today. Thanks for sharing.

$550 is a great deal for that rifle, even with the mods. I do like the weaver K4 scopes, but I wouldn’t have put it on that rifle.

These guns have been high for years where I live. I guess they're just regionally popular.

Like you I have the .30 Remington, you can get .32 Remington brass from Grafs and run it through .30 Remington dies, loads fine. the older lyman books have data, but most 30-30 winchester data will work fine. Cogburn Arsenal is also making 3d printed stripper clips that work great. Nice video!

For anyone looking for .25, 30, .32 Remington check with Buffalo arms, as they did offer rounds.

I have a Model 8, date 1916 by the serial number but it has a pistol grip stock as opposed to most 8's I've seen with straight stocks. It definetely appears to be original equipment though. Does anyone know if this is some kind of anomoly to have a pistol grip? Thanks !

Couldn't agree more , I just purchased a model 8 , thing is in excellent condition , I think you're absolutely correct in saying these are going to be highly collectable down the road , I'm really surprised they aren't worth twice what people say they are now ???

I also like the model 8. Check out. (The Great model 8 forum) If you can find some that haven’t been boogered up, they are worth considerably more.

Two things, unless you know these guns you probably will not buy it. If you do know about these you will probably be deterred by the non-existent ammo.

True enough. Since I posted this I also picked up a Model 8 in .32 Remington for a very reasonable price. The fact that it included 4 boxes of .32 Remington was a deal sealer. Enough brass for reloading.

30/30 remington became 30 remington aster winchester took remington to court. you must have a surplus or replacement barrel because remington lost that in 1910

I have two of them. A model 8 in 30 and an 81 in 300 savage. Can't find ammo for the 30 but I hunt with the 300 whenever I deer hunt
