This game was my childhood. I played it endlessly, what a masterpiece. You could tackle nearly every level in so many ways, and every level was so inventive and fun to play and replay. My favorites must be this level, The Guns of Savo, Saving Private Smith and Castle Colditz. Das Boot might have been the absolute best, a sandbox of so many possibilities... you could approach it from four different entry points (the minefield, the submarine pen, the warehouse, the guard tower...) and use any kind of strategy you liked, from going in gun blazing to sneaking stealth to using the spy... wow... so many memories! Thank you for bringing us this gem and your brilliant commentary!
@@SteveRamsdenRUclips hi, I can’t open the door to save the captain for some reason, my keys doesn’t open the door, have i got the wrong keys or something? Hope you can help me out 😅
Thank you for this! When I have first played it, I actually just got the officer uniform and walked in through the doors to the base next to the gates, and the objective just got ticked, I never even knew I could get the gates open.:D That is why I love this game, because there is about a million ways to do things, I just watch your videos to get a basic idea of what each character can do, then I try to figure it out on my own.
The difference in names comes from the European and American release of Commandos 1. Green Beret is called Butcher or Tiny, depending on the version, same with Spooky/Frenchy for the spy. Also sapper is sometimes called Inferno, and also Fireman. Also, the small green uniforms are basically the ‘ammo’ for the disguise. Same as you can stack guns or take out the clip, you could do the same with the uniforms.
I know this is late, but I just saw the part in the commander's office, and started ripping out my hair and yelling "why did you not equip the commander's uniform!! You could boss around everyone!" xD
I always used the dog to vary all the bombs. Freed up space to pick up other stuff. Then when I needed a bomb, i'd use the whistle and grab one from him.
This game is sooo addicting, I recently got back into it and I literally have dreams of various levels and how to approach them. I day dream about it too. It's insane, I wish there were custom map mods and stuff for it, so we got to play more. I think the diver is definitely the best in the game at silent killing. The ability to do so from range, although short, is insane. I mostly use the Green Beret for when I need to carry boxes to save inventory space. I have him carry the boxes over to the other people. Other than that, I don't use him very much. I did use him a bit when I did my fast playthrough for popping in and out of buildings and spam knife on people when they followed you out. That's really powerful, especially if you have self healing with cans of food.
Honestly, the diver with his throwing knife AND the harpoon, he is more useful than all in my opinion. The combination of him and the Spy, oh the elite duo. By the way, are you ever going to do this series again but this time do the remastered version instead. Oh and also, if you can livestream it maybe on Twitch that would be awesome. I know youre doing more of movie bits, but you know, a little commandos walkthrough is always welcome
I've been meaning to try the remaster at some point, but still haven't got round to it. I think it would just make me want to play the original. from what I've seen online it's a shame they've redesigned the character faces, now they all look like they are on drugs haha!
You can actually use the dog as a cargo carrier and pack him with stuff to fetch cargo to any team member with a whistle...Tiny's radio is meant to draw attention as a distraction device for enemies into one location to be taken out by booby trap...
I have a question: I just took down the first opponent (at the right side of the submarine pen, aka at 4:19), but didn't know you could take the dagger back until i saw this video. Is there a way you can re-equip the dagger even after you take his uniform and other stuff?
Man, you're an expert, you do things so fast! It's taking me hours to complete it, I have nearly finished it. I want now to get rid of the group doing exercises outside and the armoured vehicle next to it; but I can't do it without raising the alarm. Is there not a way to complete this level without raising the alarm? Thanks for your time and answer.
I think the alarm always gets raised when you blow up the guns / torpedo hanger / oil tanks, and you have to do that to complete the level. So I've never found a way to do it without raising the alarm! Enjoy :)
Regarding the group of soldiers, there IS a WAY to do it, but you're going to have to use up a few saves just in case something goes wrong. Get a vehicle, preferably the truck, not the car (I think they can see over that at certain angles). Soldiers are scripted to dodge out of the way when a vehicle is racing past or towards them. They even do it when the vehicle isn't directly aimed at them or when they're in the process of shooting. Thing is, they don't *always* go back to their original position after they begin walking back, especially not when there's *something* blocking their way. So...drive a vehicle towards them and separate one soldier from the rest and then use the truck to separate the others' view of your victim. Then, simply knock him out/kill him and carry him somewhere where the others won't see him. Get back in the truck. Rinse and repeat until you're in the clear. Or if they've placed themselves in new positions that allow you to knock them out without alerting the others, good on you. The armoured vehicle, on the other hand, is going to require a kaboom or two. But if you don't want an alarm and for everyone in the nearby area to come running, you ought to omit that. You'll be inside the base for the majority of the time, anyway. One panzer boi driving outside the walls shouldn't cause you much trouble. Hope this helps!
For some reason i can’t use the time bombs or the remote control bombs of the sapper? They are in my backpack but if i search in my weapons they aren’t there, Only my guns?
Hey how do you rotate camera but smoothly not by angle to angle? Coz when you press alt key the hand tool comes up and click left mouse, it will just rotate the screen angle to angle but not smoothly like you do here.
I didn't watch the whole video, but I cannot find anywhere how to use the security papers while driving the car to enter through the gate. I can get the spy to disguise himself as an officer. I can steal the car and drive it in front of the gate. But, then nothing happens. The guy with the black shirt doesn't open the gate or ask me for papers. I tried searching for a solution, but everywhere I looked people are simply walking in instead of using the car.
It worked for me surprisingly, with just the spy in the vehicle. I just had to drive near the guy at the gate for a few seconds, and then the door opened.
@@jalapeno_clashroyale5805 Hmmm... so there apparently is a way to do this 'right'. Can you see anything you did different than Steve Ramsden that could be why it works for you?
You get the machine itself in the previous level, Night of the Wolves, and Thief starts this level with it. I don't think there's a specific code you need to get in this level
I'm playing the HD remaster on switch and I can't for the life of me figure out how to use guard mode. I want to set my squad up and have them ambush but none of them fire their weapons when an enemy comes.
It looks like i can get trouh with the sapper and i got pretty far here. Im playing on PlayStation 4 and its great 👍 But the remaster is not very good, the game screen is to big for my tv.
I used to use the truck on the other side with the spy disguised as an officer to drive the others in to the base i know this comment is two years later 😂
U can enter the camp dressed like an officer driving the truck. Hiding the rest in the back. And someone will open the gate gate after checking your papers. Just stole the truck with the spy and drove it to the other side of the map. Armored vehicle is no threat to spy in vehicle. See here how they open the gate ruclips.net/video/hHeP0KnWTGs/видео.html

How did you rotate the view smoothly? I'm playing Commandos 2, not the HD remaster.
Splendid gameplay!
This game shines best in co-op mode.
I've always wanted to see subtitles for the German dialogue from the soldiers so that I could 100 percent understand what they were saying

Truman show reference! Love it

the green number with the uniform goes down as they wear it but not for the spy
Why they stopped making wonderful games like this.
There is a fans made mod of this game "Commandos 2 Destination Paris". I think with over 200 missions so it'll keep you going for a while.

Hey how do you rotate camera but smoothly not by angle to angle? Coz when you press alt key the hand tool comes up and click left mouse, it will just rotate the screen angle to angle but not smoothly like you do here.
You can only do a smooth rotation inside buildings. For the outdoor map, they have only built it from 4 angles. So it looks 3D but it actually isn't!
I usually press alt and hold the right or left key on my keyboard
That's how u rotate smoothly
