- www.autobytel.com/dodge/charge... The 2012 Dodge Charge represents the second generation and with it comes a nice facelift. The 2012 Charger has a much better looking front end including cool headlights and grille. The car looks sleeker and meaner compared to the previous model. The suspension has been completely reworked. In fact the 2012 Dodge Charger is essentially brand new from the ground up. When you opt for the more expensive Charger models, you get a nice big Hemi engine and cool appearance package that includes gigantic 20 inch chrome rims.
The 2012 Dodge Charger is a real muscle car that sports a V-8 engine and RWD. Now there are 3 different trim levels and the base model costs $29,496. This SE model comes with a 3.6 liter V-6 that makes 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque while getting 18 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. What's great about the base V-6 model is that you can have the cool sporty muscle car look for a reasonable price and the engine is no slouch either!
But step up to the Hemi V-8 engine and things start to get interesting. The 2012 Dodge Charger R/T starts at just under $30k and comes packing a 370 horsepower 5.7 liter V-8 Hemi engine. The Charger R/T gets 16 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. The big daddy model is the SRT-8 which gets an even larger engine that displaces 6.4 liters and produces a whopping 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft. of torque! This car gets 14 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway but who cares when you can out accelerate any other sedan on the road.
The new 2012 Dodge Charger not only looks the part of a 4-door muscle car, it has the power to back it up. The Charger is a great example of what a muscle car used to be and it sets the bar for what a 4-door muscle car should be.

It's amazing how good the Charger looks, especially considering it's a four door.
The roofline doesn't look like the roofline of a four door sedan.
It looks like the roofline of a fastback coupe!
And the rear doors look surprisingly easy to get in and out of.
This is the perfect car for someone who loves muscle cars but has a family that wants to drive it 12 months a year. I personally own a 2012 R/T charger its awesome. With a winter tire set up its a champ in the snow in Canada. No need for the AWD which i did not care for with the car sitting so much higher.
It is in last place in reliability, and slow.
Yeah my dad got it for this reason. Saw it for the first time today, looking forward to drives with it
I have owned my new 2011 dodge charger rt max for about 7 months now and I could not be happier. The car is gorgeous!
I just bought a R/T Charger just like this one, Such an incredible car, handles great, powerfull as hell, lots of room neat technology and just fun to drive, not to mention it turns heads.
Main reasons I want to get this car is for the interior and power of it. BTW quick question, does it really turn heads when you're driving it on the street on a daily basis? B/c that would make this car even better.. :D
I don't know if it's head turner. I just bought mine. With the AWD. The awd only turns on when the sensors detect slip. It's pretty awesome. Quick, very quick. Well, mine might not be a head turner because even though it's jet black, it's also the normal R/T. It has hemi badging, but it does not have the all around R/T badging that the more upscale R/T's have and mine also doesn't have a rear spoiler. So far, my first day in, I am in love.
I have one of these Chargers and its awesome. My fac car since Ive been driving for 25 years
Your reviews are amazing, thanks so much for your hard work, I always look for you when I am looking up a car on youtube! Thanks man!
6'1. I've seen many of his reviews and he says so in several of them
We have one (2012 R/T) and I agree.
This car is sooo much better in every way than the '06 R/T we traded in
but I'd loved to have been able to get it with the stick.
That old Viper 6 speed manual is very sweet in the Challenger.
question if you made 80k or 95l per year would you buy this car?
love my 2011 SE!
I just got one and I love it. Don't know what your talking about Federer. Mine handles great and is nimble for such a big car. Love the sound of the dual exhaust. My R/T is a little above the base R/T. I have the Dr. Dre sound system that is awesome and this thing will move!!!
My states Highway Patrol are switching from the 2008 models to this 2012 model. They are good cars.
We can only hope. Care to site your source on that? Last I heard, the RAM 1500 will see it first, and the Charger 8spd/Hemi combo won't hit lots until mid summer 2013 and those cars will be labeled 2014s.
This is probably the best sells-man ever. I actually want to go pick one up tomorrow.
I have a awd 2011 charger rt. it's a good choice for people who must drive in the snow. Highly recommended .
Get it !! I got one, and it's a BEAST !!
does this car come with awd?
I have a 2014 r/t charger but it has 18 inch chrome wheeels
Regular SE is around 20,000 for a 2012. SXT is around 23,000-24,000. R/T is around 28,000-31,000 then R/T plus is around 35,000 and finally the SRT8 and R/T Max is around 38,000 tops. This is just approximate MSRPs for the model 2012 ONLY.
The V6 in the SHO is also turbocharged and it has to work hard to achieve that power.
The hemi is naturally aspirated and barely breaks a sweat making that 370hp
how the ride
My boy is 6"4 n he loved the space he felt really comfortable
@ThePowerlessLP .... It's not v4 , it's called a four cylinder , and get the v8 it has Eco mode that puts it to only 4 cyc.
How much is this car?
i was told by dealer here in south FL not to expect it with the Hemi until POSSIBLY 2015, not '14
@uptownblk Yes they do..a very good AWD system at that.
This car dose look good, but you can save yourself a bit more money and go with a used Pontiac G8 GT and be faster. I have the GXP model and I havent't seen anything come out yet that I would consider a replacement. You also get a 6 speed so better top end performance.
I used to like two door coupes. But over time, the hassle of accessing the rear seat area through the front doors really got to me.
The two door coupe configuration makes the rear seat area so inaccessible it is essentially wasted. Interior space in a car is simply too precious to waste that way.
That's why so many subcompact hatchbacks are five door hatchbacks rather than three door hatchbacks.
The Charger looks fine as a four door. Anyone who disagrees can always buy the Challenger.
@asianfoodface I thought the same until I actually drove one. 2012 R/T with road and track package. FUN CAR!! Exhaust note is awesome, I want one now but will save a bit more and get the SRT8. I like manuals but not in large 4-door cars...
The Super Bee does not have more features, that's why it is cheaper. It is slightly faster though because it is lighter due to not having a lot of those features. Super Bee does not come with 8.4 touch screen or a lot of the other features and options and instead goes for a lighter, more track ready version.
someone correct me if i am wrong. a 5.7l engine produces 375hp considered a gd engine??? r u kidding me or i am ignorant!? look at ford, v6 305hp, 5.0 412hp and don't mention the mpg!!! 375hp from a 5.7?? and at what range do i get that kinda power? g37, 3.7 330hp...etc...
A tad weak for a hemi. A eco boost v6 in a SHO gets nearly as much, with AWD to boot. Maybe a tuner could drag a bit more out of it without impairing it's fuel economy to much. It does look and sound really nice though. If someone gave me one I wouldn't complain in the least.
The Charger did not 'replace' the Crown Vic. Ford replaced it with the new Taurus, and its doing great on the market. All my local PD's are getting the new Taurus Interceptor. And the Vic is the same set-up of V8 RWD sedan...a muscle car essentially.
I work for chrysler also on the Ram 1500 it doesnt change what I said.
I get my brand new 2017 Charger RT in a few weeks. Can't wait!!!! :D
G Tech20 all the best
In 2013, according to some auto magazines, the HEMI will have the 8-speed automatic in both the Charger and Chrylser 300. Hopefully, your wish will come true.
I work for the Chrysler/dodge oem parts
Sorry to burst your bubble but most police departments are switching to the interceptor do to the awd dual turbo charged goodness
They are indeed - they open dang near 90 degrees.
I have the rt plus 2013 version
Breitling Super Avenger I have that watch!
SRT8 has the 6.4L hemi instead of the 5.7L
Dodge charger, Mustang GT or Chevy Camaro?
you are right tht it looks cooler , it was a dodge tradition to make super bees the very high end chargers but now the super bees have less option
Active exhaust
Adaptive dampers (the Super Bee uses regular Bilstein dampers)
Forged, 20-inch aluminum wheels (the Super Bee’s 20s are cast)
Leather upholstery (the Super Bee gets its own embroidered cloth seats)
Navigation (it’s not even optional in the Bee)
Heated and cooled cup holders
Twelve-way memory driver’s seat
Yep the dealership said it was the transmission and we have the 5 speed transmission not the 8 speed. She drove around a corner and the transmission popped and then lost all gears and made a very loud squealing sound. The dealership tech said it was the transmission and that it was totally "F-ED" is how he exsplained it.
Getting a 2013 SXT Plus, can't wait!
my father just bought one for 38 grand its sweet! too damn bad he won't let me drive it.
Its funny when the reporter talk about the seat he had his hand by his crouch left like he was touching himself. it was just funny ...
...since when?
Everything about this car is right.
Except the automatic transmission.
Chrysler, offer this with the 6 speed manual from the Challenger!
I fuckin love this car, cant wait to get one
I may get loads of nasty comments for this, but I would like to see a 3,2L turbo diesel version for the european market. Every man and his dog drives an Audi or BMW around here. This thing looks way cooler, but with fuel prices over here economy unfortunately wins over style.
Nice:)
Makes me wanna trade my new Dodge Ram for it. Maybe I'll just get both.
Dodge rt cost abou
yes, True American Muscle Car, MADE IN CANADA with a lot of China Parts
Don't get me wrong, I love this car, and the HEMI engine, but, just get the SRT8. 470hp of M.assively O.ver P.owered A.sphalt R.emover. But, one thing I don't get- the new SRT8 Superbee costs less than the SRT8, but the Superbee has more features, looks way cooler, and has the same power/weight specs.
Oh and I have been a certified GM and Chrysler tech for 25 years. Ganley chevy, and ganley dodge...
you're welcome
@AnarchistImmaculate Nobody does. If you want V8, RWD and 375HP you have to go BMW or Mercedes Benz and they cost literally TWICE as much. Benz E550 and BMW 550i are the only truly comparable cars out there.
Signal Hill !
Did he really say 2nd generation?
If you have push to start, generally you'll have anti-theft.
"excuse me, Ford Taurus" lol
About 30 grandd
All my local departments are using either impalas or chargers...
Dodge, put that 8 speed in your Hemi!!!
I would love an srt8 but cost 50 grand!!!!! R/T is good for me.
95k*
5 speed !
You named 3 2-door cars as competition for a 4 door sedan. Fail. Those are all 2 doors that weigh significantly less than the Charger. So while yes "dont' ever compare a luxury car to a muscle car"...which is true but the Charger is a 4 door Luxury Muscle Car and that makes it unique with no domestic competition, except maybe its brother the 300
@liyuran G37 3.7L gets WORSE fuel mileage than the 5.7L HEMI and makes way less power. Nissan ruined the VQ engine by making it too big. I use to have a VQ30 Maxima and it got killer mileage and still made good power, then I bought a VQ35 and it had more balls but HORRIBLE fuel mileage, now the VQ37 is even worse. They need to take it back to 3.0L or make it optional. The 3.7L is a fuel hog, I'd rather a V8!
Oops I see somebody already replied in more detail than I did. But also as far as "Just get the SRT" obviously not everybody can afford that lol. But also in debating I realized I don't need such immense power. Not only is the R/T PLENTY powerful, but Im not racing, or going to the track, or desiring to get a speeding ticket twice a month. Or pay that GAS bill every week. No thanks. Lol Plus I don't want to wait until I have the extra TEN THOUSAND extra it would cost for the SRT8
ugh, I can't believe the reviewer made such a HUGE mistake: The complete redesign was done for the 2011 model year, and *not* the 2012 model year like how he's all excited about here.
Seriously - I could understand confusing say a new transmission or slight change in engine size, but the actual *exterior design*? Give me a break. Terrible oversight.
SRT8 = 6.4L 470 HP
R/T = 5.7L 370 HP
do you know that they have shut down a lot of their parts plants, now we order from china companies where they make the exact same thing but cheaper, like engine mounts, interior door panels, etcs.
@liyuran Calm down, no need to compare a big four door sedan to a little nimble pony car, they aren't in the same category.
It has too much horsepower for me... They should do a v4 version. Its cheaper and has lower upkeeps :I
chrysler is missing up because they have an eight speed that can handle the power
My brother burned one today in his 02 mustang on 22s dude was posses Lucky he didn't see us in da 08 vette
Why would you sit on such a beauty??
I bought a 2012 charger and it has 556 miles on it and is now in the shop with a blown transmition. I wouldnt recomend this car to my worst enemy. Ow and my woman was driving it so you cant blame it on me hot rodding it. I havent even gotten my chance to drive it yet and it blows up......
That's a fuckin R/T. That like a RS to the SS. Put up a STR-8
Wow what a major redesign of the interior! Other than the large navigation screen it still looks like shit!
Hope your joking with this post. Maybe 3 car makers if even that make own parts.
HOW DARE YOU SIT ON THAT HOOD!!! That vehicle is a freaking marvel in my eyes and i am dying to get one.
made in Canada.
вот слоняра,он в нем как в игрушечной!
good car but NOT a true enthusiast's muscle car. This guy mentions the original charger alot. Until dodge releases a charger with a manual transmission, this is still a fake muscle car but a good normal car.
not the maxima.... at all
Yeah. I cringed as I watched him sitting on the fender.
fuck no i wouldnt want 8 speed on a hemi
its coming 2014
someone would have to pay above $100000 for this car in my country due all the duties and shit. :p
Looks naked without the spoiler
@AnarchistImmaculate Ford
Remeber he's also overweight, go try the car before you buy
Your full of it. Can't park? Maybe your just use too those little whinny 4 bangers! Leave the Muscle Cars to the good drivers and don't rent them if you don't like them.
What does he weigh 200+lbs sit on the fender really? Maybe your 105lb girlfriend maybe
Falls apart after 40,000 miles
