In an electric motor, the stator coils are energized with alternating currents, creating a rotating magnetic field. The rotor, which contains permanent magnets, experiences the effects of this rotating magnetic field and is compelled to rotate.
The generation of back electromotive force (back EMF) occurs due to the relative motion between the rotating rotor and the stator coils. As the rotor spins, the magnetic field lines produced by the permanent magnets on the rotor cut across the stator coils. This relative motion induces a voltage in the stator coils according to Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The induced voltage opposes the applied voltage, resulting in the back EMF.
It's important to note that the back EMF is primarily generated in the stator coils, not in the rotor magnets. The rotor magnets remain relatively stationary in terms of their position with respect to the stator coils, while the rotating magnetic field generated by the stator induces voltage in the coils.
The interaction between the rotating magnetic field and the stationary stator coils is what allows for the generation of back EMF, regulating the motor's current and influencing its behavior.
