I would love to see a Confrontation mini painting video. There are tons of *insert new model here* painting videos, but seeing 20+ years old Rakham miniatures competing against the new stuff would be fun. Maybe even do a comparison. Paint a Rackham and a modern GW Mini and tell us, what you liked painting, where there any problems and such things.

    • @jiminkpen9750
      @jiminkpen9750 2 года назад +2

Agreed. Such an amazing range ahead of its time in sculpting, still have a load in my cupboard somewhere along with a bunch in my painted cabinet.
And some of these minis absolutely hold up to the modern sculpts too. (I am not a fan of metal minis any more though)

I don't know if anyone else has commented on this, but the Warhound Titan pictured in your video at 2:50 is actually a Lucius Pattern Warhound Titan. You can tell from it's more angular, boxy shape compared to the smoother, rounder Mars-pattern that you usually see.
That particular pattern of Warhound is long out of production and is pretty damn rare and hard to find these days. If you can get your hands on that for less than the price of a new one from ForgeWorld, you *absolutely should* because it's worth a LOT more than that in raw resale $$$$.
But, of course, a video of you painting this pattern of Titan would be absolutely priceless in nerd cred, so you know what ya gotta do.

I was going to point this out, you are definitely correct and if he painted it up and resold it, he could easily make enough money to possibly buy a Reaver Titan... He should make it a series at that point.
Buy, assemble paint warhound, sell it to buy a reaver.
Buy, assemble, paint reaver, sell it to buy a warbringer.
Buy, assemble, painter warbringer, sell it to buy a warlord.
      LOL

As someone who really enjoys the Death Guard lore it would be really cool to see that Dark Imperium half painted up in a cool thematic way. Maybe swamp, desert, undersea or some other environmental theme. Alternatively you could just showcase some painting techniques such as weathering, oil washes, grimes etc. Since you already have a Death Guard army maybe you could plan to donate the new Death Guard project to a charity auction. Would be amazing for you to take a $15 investment and turn it into a couple hundred dollars for a good cause!

In all honesty. If you're just looking to find some kind of project for the Confrontation minis, you do this full time now. It doesn't necessarily have to be a specific project, you can just paint the minis and show us your techniques and process cause having more than one video describing generally how you go through different minis is more helpful than just one video on a particular method. Cause they are cool models and I bet they will look great with your oil magic.

The whole minipainting YT community is stuck in a clickbait-style thing at the moment. I miss the days when each channel was sharing their painting approaches and tips, not just these unboxing vids (though it is sometimes a nice change of pace). Squidmar is the worst for it. Channels just one giant ego trip with absolutely no tutorial content anymore. Yawn.

Maybe you find a way to give the miniatures (especially the Stormcast Far Striders) not only the normal used/grimdank or battle-damaged look, but a healthy dash of madness, ever-dying and tiredness.

To add to your intro: I organized a multi table mega battle at my local store (GMI Games and Collectible in Riverside CA.) For context, we used to run giant scale games pretty regularly about 10 years ago. But a lot of the old crew started families and we just did occasional tourney when we could. when I say giant games, I mean 20+ player games in pre 8th edition scales of 100,000 point games and more. I began to miss those games and started updating an Mega Battle game we called Island Hopper. each and could influence other tables by firing to them, if your weapon had range, or have reserve from your table be diverted to other tables. It had been an extremely popular game in the past. But during the preparation work, out friends, no our family Robert and Catherine Walker, the store owners past due to the Vid. As tragic as is was during the services, all of us came together, and we truly discovered how much of a community that was forge by them. After not much convincing, the new owner, their youngest son, and one of my dearest friends agreed then the game must go on, if nothing more then to keep their memory alive. Then game drew in 13 players, and quite a few onlookers. Also had our photographer Friend take time between turn to shoot the event. Think they are still be organized for there site.
On a side note, I had a female Commissar and a tech-priest named after my friend. That was their last game. They are going to be interred into a diorama that will find a place at the store. Hope that will help inspire other

If you have no plans for those Death Guard models, a couple of suggestions (which double as potential videos..!):
    - Cool diorama project
    - Gift for a friend (put together and painted, naturally)
    - Raffle prize, or contest prize (either on-sprue, or after building/painting them)
    - Convert them in some crazy way (like I think it was Jazza From Tabletop Time who once did some 'cleansed' Nurgle models, with all the gross bits purified)

Hey Jon, I’d love to learn more about the “styles” of mini painting. Being relatively new to the hobby i have no idea what people mean when they say they’re using a “grimdark’ style or the “GW” style… and I’m sure that I’ve heard of people referring to other styles that i cant recall because i don’t know what they mean. It would be super helpful have a “style catalogue” type video where the technique is discussed and the results are compared. Thanks Man!

When people say grimdark, theyre basically saying make the miniature look as lifelike as possible, simulated paint chipping, very muted colors, even blood splatter effects. Make it look like it's been lived in a Grim and Dark world. GW style I believe is Synonymous with 'Eavy Metal style, which if you don't know, Eavy Metal is the name of the in house GW team that paints all the minis for the Boxes and covers. The style is meticulous and there is almost 0 margin for errors. It's also super inefficient for painting large armys due to how much detail you must put into each miniature

  • @vindachio1

This gives me an idea for a challenge between you and Scott. The Bits challenge. You put all the different types of bits in a bucket, so bucket of heads, left arm, right arm, weapons, body, legs and so on. You have to pick each part out blindly and make a mini of it. Best looking one wins. Second challenge is to paint them drunk.

That's actually genius; considering that the markup for a store is going to be roughly 30% - they're effectively getting a 30% commission for the auction. The event itself gets people into the store, it gives them incentive to purchase at the store AND it empties their shelves of unused hobby product (which technically is a loss against the store - as a purchased product is a substitute product).
    Super Smart idea.

Video idea for the underworlds warbands - paint each one using only one colour. For instance red for the Khorne boys, green for the nighthaunt, blue for the stormcast. You can add black, white and a single metallic to break it up, but every other paint has to be a shade/tone of the same colour.

If anyone is is ever in the Elizabethtown Kentucky area, you NEED to stop by Hard Knox games and hobbies. They have the best paint selection I've ever seen in a hobby store, carrying a very wide variety of paint lines. The staff is great and always very helpful and they have a gaming hall that's at least the same size as their retail space. All around the best FLGS I've personally been to.

I don’t think anyone would ever come to Idaho for a vacation but if you ever find yourself in the treasure valley Phoenix Fire Games is honestly the greatest LGS we have. I’m very common customer there to the point they know me by name or the other employees know me as the “blood angel player”. They’re extremely nice and amazing people so if you do happen to go there, give them as much support as you can give to those great folk

That’s a good idea. The seller gets the value of the sale, and the store obtains profit on the gift voucher when redeemed.

Your Local Game Store in Mint Hill North Carolina is where our group holds court every Saturday night. It's great place with a great community of gamers that range from war games to card games to role playing games to board games. And every purchase you make gets you a little store credit to spend on merchandise.

Aw man, bittersweet memories. I totally fell out of the hobby back when Confrontation was around and I ended up selling all my minis. I had such a large Alchemists force. I've only recently gotten back into mini painting and really wish I still had them. I'd love to see what you do with those minis.

My favorite hobby store is Games U in Mesa, AZ right on the corner of Stapley and Baseline. It's kind of tucked away towards the end of a shopping plaza, but they have a HUGE selection of all different types of minis, games, and supplies. The staff is also friendly and very chill; usually I like to browse and see what catches my eye, and most of the time they usually ask if I need anything, and I'll say, "No, just looking," and they just let me look and don't really pressure me into buying a ton of stuff.
