Shmi Skywalker?

I think the best part of your videos, is how you use Star Wars, to enlighten us about the reality of our world, and concepts we otherwise would not be told about most anywhere else. Thanks for that.
Eeyup.
It's actually irritating and inaccurate. Every five seconds Star Wars had some connection to a real world event, when really its just a fictional movie. People need to stop trying to make everything political.
I don't think thats what people are doing. They are just using a fictional show that is easier to understand to teach people about how our world works.@@Infamous1892
Always feel bad for the outer rim, no matter which government, they always suffer.
Given to the last episode of the Bad Batch I wonder what’s Omega’s true strength is? Given to how she tossed that Clanker over the bridge with her own strength
Just consider that there's a limit to the reach of any government and for small fringe planets it may be that control of the outer rim planets just isn't cost-effective.
@Isaac Kim She didn't though. She used her weight to make the droid fall and she fell too.

Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss in a nutshell.
Outer Rim: *exists*
Hutts and other criminal groups like the Black Sun: "It's free real estate."
*Literally,* sadly.
The biggest problem with party politics will always be that people care more about the party than the people they are supposed to be representing. People who challenge the elites within the party always end up getting kicked out or shunned, politicians are forced to vote along party lines or risk getting a primary challenge in their home state, and of course the money will always be greater within a large group than some small time person trying to make a difference as a 3rd party or independent. Once countries get rid of party politics, they will be far better moving forward, but the system has become so ingrained in certain places like the U.S., it will be decades before any real change happens.
You'd think the Rebellion/New Republic would have a plan for the Outer Rim considering much of their support could come from Outer Rim worlds who hate the Empire.
Palpatine I understand... he's a sadist.
My conclusion is that the Outer Rim isn't neglected just because of Core World snobbery - not _just_ because of that, anyway - but because it's a huge nuisance to get people, stuff, and information to and from there compared to the relatively quick, easy, well-mapped hyperspace lanes that connect the Core. Sure, there may well be plenty of mineral-rich paradise worlds out there, but if getting to the rim takes a week or two each way, compared to a hop of just days or hours for inter-core traffic, then everything from colonization to commerce to internet shitposting and space-cat pictures will be a lot more vibrant in the Core than the Rim.
And that assumes the Outer Rim doesn't take a "fine, I'll start my own planet, with blackjack and hookers" attitude toward the Core and even _wants_ to reconnect with them in the first place. I'm sure there are more than a few Outer Rim planets that were settled by people specifically trying to get away from Core World nonsense, whose political philosophy is basically "get off my lawn".
Point being, my theory is that the Outer Rim wouldn't be any easier for the Rebellion or New Republic to reach and win over than it was for the Empire or Old Republic before them.
@@tba113 That is effectively true from a lot of little things we’ve seen.
Maybe not the exact time for travel and communication but it definitely is there.
Honestly, why? The Rebellion's official name is "the Alliance to Restore the Republic". While we absolutely should be rooting for them against the Empire, they aren't really a revolutionary group. They're a reactive group that wants to bring things back to what they were before. (I'm talking about leadership.) They aren't necessarily there to do anything further. And we're well past the era of high idealism that is the High Republic.
Me: Just enjoying the video
Brain: "That computer is in a bad spot"
YEAH! I had that same thought too.
Maybe the outer rim should form their own government led by a charismatic individual who loves saber dueling. If only.
The republic needs to do what many empires of old did. Set up client states, tributaries, vassals, satraps, what ever you want to call them in the outer rim.
Its too much of a mess for direct rule but setting up and supporting local powers will be a decent middle ground.
That sort of thing never ends well in the long run though. Having some foreign power come in and start dictating things to the locals or imposing their own ways of doing things only ever breeds more resentment and unrest.
@@Chaotic_Jackal I said they wouldnt be dictating things that would cause unrest and resentment but supporting people familiar with the regions and sectors who are able to handle it effectively
@@theliato3809 That would still just be a puppet regime. Any planetary leaders capable of maintaining peace and prosperity in their area of space doesn’t require outside assistance from the Republic. While those who can’t would always be beholden to Core World interest groups as they know full well that if the Republic ever cuts ties with their regime they’ll be deposed in short order.
What you’re suggesting has been tried many times before throughout history and it has never once worked out the way you’re suggesting it will.
They sort of did in the EU, the Hutts had their own government and territory which Tatooine and Nal Hutta were a part of…
I would love for a game following a group of Imperial Remnants that found a nice niche and settled in. Imagine a cell which existed besides the ST and saw the events how the FO was crippled in such a way that also made the Final Order look like chumps. While they would be targeted as soon as they are discovered the Galaxy barely has Forces to hand them a defeat if their mineral deposits and the use of droids is well employed.
@Homer an Empire at War revival would be massive.
For all that Alan has ranted on about conditions in the Outer Rim WHERE IS HIS PLAN FOR THE OUTER RIM HMMMMM?
Just waiting for that laptop to fall off that balcony XD
I love how he points out how Star Wars is built on very similar foundations from certain countries. The way Allen talks abt how we shouldn’t define others based on their opinions is something the world needs to hear
If the Republic is willing to let the Outer Rim to form their own planetary militaries after the Ruusan Reformation has been approved, then the Republic should just leave the Outer Rim alone and developed their own politican entities. Or better yet, stay at the Core Worlds and let Chandrilla fed everyone while Coreallia shipped peoples and goods around there.
In other words, let the rest of the galaxy allowed to develop their own polities and the Republic needed coexist with them whether they wanted to or not.
They did. The problem was that most of the Outer Rim is far less developed then the Core, economically dependent on exploitative mega-corporations/Crime Syndicates and regularly the favorite stomping grounds for savage and destructive regimes such as the Hutts, Mandolarions, Sith, Galactic Empire, and later the Yuuzhan Vong.
What meager defense forces they could muster would often be under gunned and easily corrupted due to the Hutts applying economy pressure to subvert their governments. Mega-Corps viciously suppressing, absorbing, or destroying local businesses to maintain their monopolies. Or where just outright destroyed and their people subjugated whenever the local Imperial power of the week rolled into town.
It really is a sad state of affairs when the reformed Imperial Remnant moving into neighborhood was probably the best thing to happen to the Outer Rim in Star Wars.
I love how a video about star wars turned into a political commentary (well said by the way)
I could not help but laugh when the kid in the most recent episode of the bad batch "amateurs." Because these guys are essentially a special ops group from the clone wars. That's why I thought it was quite funny what look on his face was when the bad batch found him with gonky.
Thanks for speaking truth about politics
Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss
Star Wars or not, this was actually a fairly well-spoken political take, well done. I'm gonna show this to people who've never even watched Star Wars.
What this all really amounts to is both the government and Galaxy's being responsible for how things turn out. No matter what era.
I love how you take Star Wars and apply it to the real world and just use it to try to make our world a better place :) This is by far my favorite Star Wars channel.
I do have a few criticisms though. First, I don't think it's fair to say stimulus checks are "the most Socialist thing any president has ever done". Socialism isn't just the government allocating resources to certain humanitarian causes. It's far more complex than that (of course, to the extent where it's illogical to try to sum it up in a RUclips comment). It's not like free market Capitalism is all about the individual to the exclusion of the collective, or that Socialism is all about the collective to the exclusion of the individual. Socialism is effectively a transitional state to Communism, a philosophy that says all property belongs to the collective, and not to individuals. The reason so many people suffer and die under all three philosophies is they put too much emphasis on one aspect of human nature while failing to account for others. Biblically speaking, we're supposed to pay taxes to our rulers, and it's their job to ensure peace and security in our realm, punishing evil and rewarding good. When the government goes beyond that role, it will ALWAYS fail.
Second, the "be loyal to your family" thing. I would say "yes, but...". A crime syndicate is loyal to their family, it doesn't mean they're beneficial to society. A business owner is loyal to his family, that might mean he underpays his workers so he can treat his family. Again, the Bible has the answer: Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commands hang the whole law. This would eliminate Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism, simply because none of these philosophies are based on love for God or man. Capitalism is indisputably the best system of the three, but even this is based primarily on utilising man's greed for the greater good. "I do good for you not because it's good, but because you, in turn, do good for me". Well that's a far cry from "be Holy, for I, the Lord, am Holy".
The only reason why Christians still exist, is because of the genocides, and destruction in the name of your God, and the fear of the unknown.
Awesome video. Love the realness that you bring when discussing complex Star Wars topics
I think the labeling and fear mongering over economic policy in the real world has done a ton of damage to our countries. After the red scare, it seems like no one wanted to touch anything left of extreme capitalism and because of that, people didn’t get the help that they needed.
People shouldn’t look at labels but instead the potential cost and benefit to each individual economic proposal and policy.
Damn good video! I love Generation Tech! I've been watching for years and I don't miss an episode. It's my go-to for Star Wars content and more. Thanks for the "Real Talk", Allen.
Great video 👏👏👏, Star Wars really has a deep representation of política, and ir Is a good way to see whats really going on un the real world through a simpler representation of it.

"... people can't define these words, and words mean a lot" - 8:05
I can!
Religion and philosophy degree, and I can break these down at length.
I think the sequel trilogy would have been better if there was another civil with outer and mid rim Vs the inner rim with the first order being the ones to start it and prolong it would be like the clone war but way more deadly since it wouldn't be clones or droids
This trend is so good, allen. Keep it wholesome ❤
If you wind up with monopolies, that generally means you're no longer in a free market.
Why don’t you try to make that comment at RUclipss direct competition…
Oh I see now…. 😏
Actually quite sound points more people need to hear, enjoyed the "rant" for lack of a better term! :D

The mighty orca empire would never allow the outer rim to go through this
Although I do feel bad for the outer rim we also have to remember a good portion of star wars canon occurs in the outer rim
Brillant on the politics! "Thinking takes a lot of work."

So much for outer rim quim!
Dam dude, you’re very well versed with the current political situation. I have more respect for your.
Interstellar trade corporations: famously not at fault for the decay of democratic institutions and the institutional power of the galaxy's voters(those few systems that get that right).
you are filming in Lisbon, Portugal
I am eternally grateful for the spoiler alert. i will return once i have watched the episode.
If only Dutch were there. As long as Palpatine has some faith in him, he and his plan'll fix the outer rim.
5:07 One problem, this isn't capitalism, it's feudalism. Or if I'm generous, mercantilism.
It’s a crying shame how many people’s heads this will go over
Shouldn't the core systems have to much radiation to survive in
Shouldn't there be no interstellar travel, since "hyperspace" is an entirety fictional and fairly ludicrous concept? Pop into another dimension and pop back out at another time period, separated by thousands of years - then pop back and ITS THE SAME PERIOD you left?
It's called fantasy ("a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away") - not astrophysics.
Theyre built different
Preach!
I have never been so panicked for a laptops safety ....
What is the backdrop?! Awesome!
I'd like to have a beer with Allen. He seems like a cool dude.
Very good points Allen. Kinda makes me rethink a few things. Finally someone else that doesn't have allegiances to either party.
Some of the best political advice you can get - don't get too invested in either party and look at character in your politicians.
Not to mention shutting down small business .
GT needs to read the High Republic for a government that actually tried with the Outer Rim.
They really didn’t. This was the same era of government that basically allowed the Galactic mega-corps like the Trade Federation to exploit the hell out of the Outer Rim systems and actively laid the groundwork for the rise of Palptine.
@@Chaotic_Jackal Well, I was thinking of the Republic around 200-300 years before The Phantom Menace. They were actively engaged in conflict resolution between numerous Outer Rim worlds, the Jedi were more active than ever on the frontier, and the Starlight Beacon would've been the first in a large network of relief and response stations across the Rim.
Again, this is the High Republic from the current multi-media project that depicts events from long before the main saga.
@@SpiderEmblem Ah my mistake. I haven’t really gotten a chance to read much of the High Republic stuff so I forgot about that era.
This episode was kinda like Oliver Twist and the Temple of Doom
Good video
Its definitely a daunting task to get everyone on board, 10 people will have 10 different opinions and takes. Best start is probably at the common ground level, the basics. Maslow's "hierarchy of needs" kind of pops into mind, perhaps there's some insights that can be gleaned from that which can be applied to a society. What really are humanity's goals? Do we want to keep fighting for scraps in the rat race, something "to do" from cradle to grave? Or would we rather empower each other and become the greatest version of the human race?
Is that Lisbon on your background?
Many called out the stimulus package for what it was. You just won't find them on cable news nor in the mainstream media at all
I love the parallels here. Decent people don’t want to get involved in politics because the powers that be arren’t interested in solutions, they’re interested in power and stoking their own egos. When I look at the issues we in America face as a society and I am mature enough to realize that both sides have some merit. No one wants to talk about our problems that way. Take illegal immigration for example, why can’t we secure our border - go after traffickers, drug lords, weapons smuggling, while also taking a humanitarian view to those who are trying escape third world hell holes and giving some thought who were brought to the US through no fault of their own and are positive contributors to our society. But no, its “everyone is a freeloader and needs to be deported” or “any kind of police presence is like Auschwitz.”
yes it is better to be loyal to our True Family and true friends
is his name marco or moco? I heard both during the episode but I can't even tell.
I'm not surprised at the number of people who hate "socialism" have no problem accepting it when they benefit. Farm subsidies for example. Corporate welfare is supposed to be part of why gas prices are low in comparison to other countries.
And if you're going to say, "both parties are the same" remember which party is actively trying to take away rights of minorities and which one isn't.
Bit like the Hunger Games. The Capitol citizens get looked after as long as they behave, the Districts are simultaneously oppressed, neglected and vital as a source of resources and exploited labour. This seems to have been a common theme for both the Republic and the Empire.
I think a very middle of the road economic stants is hard to maintain in our world. But I agree, to try and understand others is the only way.
One bad swing, and that laptop will fly 😅
it's a virtual background lol
LOL, you should read the Tanya the Evil novels. Not the anime, since it only touches on it, but the novels go on and on about the free market and the evils of communism.
Uh, how populated is the Outer Rim anyways? I mean, was immigration there ever even popular? Sure, living on the frontier or moving into an alien culture not found in the Core is bound to get much attention, but I’m wondering how much the trade off with dealing with criminals and pirates often scared people.
People say the best answer for the Outer Rim is the idea of the Separatists, creating a separate government. But my issue with that is how long until a war breaks out? Two separate identities will form between the two states. The Core state and the Outer state will likely use propaganda to villanize the other as bigoted and hoarding resources or technology. I say one government is the solution, even if it comes with the challenge of making things fair for everyone.
I still don't understand why the Republic didn't just let the separatist planets go. Most of them were less already neglected and it wasn't like the republic was going to miss them.
Lul when Allen calls the stimulus checks, essentially massive tax returns, “socialism”
Do civilizations at earth leave exist in the star wars galaxy
It is always surprising that the Outerrim never had another galactic power that made it it's core region after the Sith - or at least a part of it, it's poorly explored and rich in natural resources as far as I know. It's why in a star wars RP forum I made an original empire that had its homeworld within the outerrim and near hutt space, which made them insanely rich in natural resources and all they needed to do was either import or redesign the technology and industry to exploit it. what's that pacifist republic gonna do? scare you with 2 jedi?
Theres tons of local powers but theyve been toppled or reduced in size. Mandalore, the Sith, Hutts, Xim, Bothans, etc.
They got overrun a lot while in the core things were so built up its harder to slap down.
It cannot be true that the central moral of Star Wars is that the regional divisions are a bad system of management due to the exploitation and neglect, because that would make it openly hypocritical for them to deliberately institute a parallel system. Star Wars has its own Core Worlds: the film canon. The television shows are the Inner Rim, and the Outer Rim is the Expanded Universe.

But I don't disagree that some people will use populism and populist rhetoric in the way that you described

Palpatine had the right idea. Allow Outer Rim people to join the army, and develop them economically as part of the war machine.
Using a clone army to secure the outer rim would’ve been the smartest thing. Conscripts in the core would’ve been fine.
You always end up with the government you deserve. Complacency and apathy tend to lead towards autocracy. The Star Wars universe is a great mirror for history and current events.
