THIS IS AN MAGNIFICENT EVENT. I loved every second. It is our first time going in 2017. It is ALL so beautiful and you come away learning a little about the Cherokee Native Americans and also feeling very, very blessed. Thank you so very much for everything this weekend. God bless all of the Cherokee.
I have attended this event almost every year for the past 25 yrs. It's a great family vacation with reasonable lodging to be found, in advance of course. I usually stay at Drama Inn or Newfound Lodge on the river side of the road. The dancers & drum groups are all professionals, sans the tiny tots, & they compete for prize money. Read up on dancing styles, history & etiquette. There are still some who do not like having their pics taken, so always ask first. I love the men's Grass Dancers, they have all the fringe on their regalia (NOT costume please) & no feather bustle. They use a lot of sweeping motions with their feet & legs. When nomadic tribes found their Spring/Summer campsite the Grass Dancers would dance to flatten the grass in preparation to set up their lodgings & give thanks to the Creator. Love the Traditional Dancers (Northern & Southern), in their dance they will demonstrate imitating their prey, hunting it down, or a warrior searching for his enemy. Most favor the Fancy Dancers & they are very beautiful to watch as are the women's Fancy Shawl, Jingle Dance & so on. All dancers always give thanks in their dance. The drum groups use sacred songs handed down from many generations, there was a particularly talented group present this year called "War Paint". I think they will give Black Lodge Singers a run for the money! It's quite educational & the Smokey Mtns. is a gorgeous setting to view it all from. There's also rafting, tubing, hiking & shopping. Hope to see you there next year!
I loved watching this today and looking forward to the July 4th Cherokee celebrations next month, we're driving up from Florida and seeing first hand this time.
When people gon understand that native Americans are not Indians 😂 and all of these people migrated from Eurasia even sitting bull ancestors Indian means you were the first people here natives were not the first people here
