The coverage of Noboribetsu as an onsen town was very well thought out. The approach was about the travel and experience there. I was lucky enough to participate in the Hakodate Matsuri way back when I was 15 on a sister-city sporting tour. It started my love of Japan that my kids have now inherited through our family holidays every 2 years.

I’m a long time subscriber to John’s channels. He’s my go to guy to all things Japan especially since I can’t visit Japan as often and as long as I’d like. This is by far one of the most entertaining and enlightening videos he’s done in my opinion. The screaming though. The manly screaming when doused with freezing cold sake. Absolutely hilarious. Ice festival rituals seem to be truly global. Naked man festival, polar bear plunge, all sorts of stuff. What a bunch of badass dudes partying like that in below freezing. The spirits of strength and courage must certainly be smiling at their celebration of life around he'll valley.
