at least i've learned something. will never buy an acer anymore. i mean, this ist just crazy. i've got an aspire v3, actually a good laptop, but i just dont have the time and the energy to disassemble the whole computer to clean the fucking fan. and now, after not even a year of usage, it gets so hot when playing games that it is no fun anymore...
do you know if it's worth it buying a new cooling fan?

it is not necessary to buy a new cooling fan, as it is not damaged, there is just too much dust in it. with other laptops you can just remove a cover and clean the fan easily. but obviously not with acers
Buy a vaccum outside the fan. I always feel heat going out
It's not acer's fault. P.s my 13 year old did this too because he has a similar laptop to mine (acer v3 771)

Thank you, this gets me 3/4 of the information I need to work on my laptop now I just have to figure out the power jack because I think that is the issue. Already replaced screen, keyboard, changed one HDD to SSD, then it won't charge or boot. Power jack is loose so must have come loose, I hope it is a replaceable part and not soldered in place. Gotta search more videos.
it hurts if someone disassambles a laptop which takes a long time and doesn't add thermal paste. But i think you just wanted to show how to disassemble thatswhy i subbed :D
Hey was wondering if you could tell us about adding thermal paste? I just ordered a replacement keyboard for my Aspire and was going to use this video to help me install it might as well do this paste stuff while I have it open.
Brother thermal paste is really healthy for your laptop and costs like 3-5 Dollars and you can find it in 95% of every Computersupport-shop.
The one and only important thing about thermal paste is, that you apply it correctly. Not to much and not to less. But first clean off the old Thermal paste very clearly. There are lots of videos about how to apply thermal paste correctly on the CPU AND GPU. (Linus tech tipps has the best how to for that)
If you need any help just tell me.
You don't need to put new thermal paste if you don't remove cpu from heatsink. The stuff from the factory is still fine.
shodanxx The stuff from the factory is low quality and word is that it needs to be changed out after a year. Or your laptop will most likely suffer from thermal throtteling.
Actually, after a year, by far the biggest factor reducing performance is dust buildup in the heatsink. "premium" thermal paste barely outperforms the "cheap" stuff they use at the factory (less than 3%, which on the power level of laptop, is not even statistically significant).
Oh thanks for showing all the steps, i'm now a bit scared to clear the fan. At first I was halfway through in removing the keyboard
Vielen Dank für dein Video. Es hat mit wirklich sehr geholfe. Habe das gleiche Laptop und es lief immer heiss und schaltete sich aus Schutz immer aus. Unglaublich wie Ruhig es jetzt ist. Habe zusätzlich die Wärmeleitpaste erneuert. Einfach geil. Trotz Video wusste ich nicht welche Schraube wohin gehörte. Eine Nahaufnahme wäre nicht schlecht gewesen.Deswegen merkt euch genau welche Schraube wohin gehört .

That really did not take as long as i expected, though during the removal of ribbon cables I dislodged every black plastic locking tab! Good lord!! I will never do that bit of stupidity again :-)
I just wanted to tell you that even though I did not find a huge wad of cat hair or dust blocking the heat exchanger, the fan blades needed cleaning. It runs so much cooler right away - well worth the time!
Went from near max temp of 70deg C while doing very easy tasking to ~40. Proof right there this is a worthwhile endeavour!!!! It originally was sold with Win XP Pro perhaps for most buyers.
I have it running Win7 64 Ultimate and some very up to date 3D design software as well. Yes it is maxed out occasionally and expressly why we want a clean flow of heat away from CPU

reason I like these v3, no-one ever made a smarter looking laptop, that piano black finish and sharp lines look really quite iconic , I'm much less interested in the internal spec.

the HDD-2 is actually bay 0 with SATA III, and the HDD-1 is bay 1 with SATA II, so whoever puts in a SSD do it in bay 0.
+Wicdz I've ordered a SSD for mine...so you're saying don't take out the regular HDD in bay 1? Or do I take out the HDD that came with it and just put the SSD in bay 0?
so when you flip the laptop, the battery facing away from you, you have to pop the SSD in the *left slot* (mine had already an HDD in it) which is SATA III, the other one - to the right - is SATA II (so I moved the old HDD to that one). Also, not sure if you have them, but order hard-drive brackets with the serial number: _33.RYNN5.001_ and two *M2 X 3MM*, four *M3 X 3MM* screws to hold it place.

Great video, I'm kinda lost on 1 thing though, when I go to put all the screws back in my v3 771g, there are 3 or 4 smaller/shorter screws and I need to know where they go. I think I may have put some long screws where the short/smaller screws should go. I have a hardware issue that comes up now and then that I never had before. I think I'm shorting something out with the long screw in a hole that should have a shorter screw in it. Please help if you can. All I need is the short screw locations and I should be good to go. Does the keyboard have some safety feature for water damage? My computer got a cup of coffe over it and they just changed the Keyboard and said it would be OK. Could I trust that it is? Or should I consider getting a new computer? (don't want a computer that crashes any time soon)

is -Acer Aspire V3-771G - a good computer for gaming and such..it looks liek a good machine...how is the build quality, any experiences ?
Yes it is very good, I can play the latest games on high settings pretty decent, but the problem is cleaning and dissasembly as u can see, they get very hot after 1 year of use
and usually my experience is that u can use lap tops max 3 years...if it is maybe apple product, then i have heard from people that they go 5 years.... im thinking of getting maybe that and replacing the OS with good old windows 7.

I was watching this video and saw your comment.Well i have the V3 771G with 250gb ssd + 1Tb hdd, 16 RAM, 2 NVIDIA 650 (i think) 17'' and ful hd, i cannot recommend you another computer, this is a really nice laptop, I bough it in december 2012, i have played from call of duty till fifa 15 and it works without problems, i actually use it for 3D- Modelling, Visual effects Editing and Video rendering and it works really good with all professional programs, adobe programs are for it nothing... I'm really happy with this laptop and the best thing it just costed 1,200 euro, when I got it there was no apple with the same specs and so fast like the Acer V3-771G!

I just tried to replace the keyboard and did everything as shown. The after reassembly the Laptop turned on normally multiple times (didn't have a boot drive in it though). Then it didn't boot anymore.
I made some changes with the keyboard and put everything back together.
Then it turned on one time.
Now it's dead.
Power button seems to work though and I reconnected the ribbon cable multiple times.
I tried with and without battery always connected to the power cord.
Can S.O help me?
Maybe there is a safety screw or something I have to put in?
Why did it work in the beginning and a second time but now it's dead?

danke! gerade nach der anleitung gereinigt und omas teppich rausgeholt ^^ cpu läuft jetzt auf max 45° anstatt 75° im leerlauf. ohne das video wär ich aufgeschmissen gewesen. wie soll man auch drauf kommen, dass man das motherboard komplett ausbauen muss um den lüfter zu reinigen? scheinbar will acer gar nicht, dass man mal säubert.
hab übrigens noch irgendwelchen plastikmüll im gehäuse gefunden, der definitiv nicht zum pc gehört...

It has gone back to Acer,there thy rebuild the UEFI bios on the HD, Now its working fine :)
MrNexus6007 I did a bios update from version 2.08 tot 2.23. My notebook crashed after this update. I did the update after a lot of blue screens with errors, so my meaning was it can't hurt to update the bios. Now i have a black box :-( . Do you still know what the price was for the repairment at acer? Or maybe it is better to buy a new one? Mine is from 09/2012. Thank you in advance!

quick question,I have an aspire v3 as well and my touchpad doesn't seem to work after I'd disassembled it to clean my fan. I checked the connector multiple times to see if it was damaged or if it was upside down. none of these two were the case. Do you have any ideas what it might be?

tajbir1 Have you triple checked if the monitor cable is fully and correctly plugged in? make sure its not upsite down, and don't force any cables as the copper might get damaged by forcing the cables in it's components.. If that still doesnt work, check your powerline connector also!

Did you push your DDR3 RAM chip in all the way a 2 month old question but im curious if that was the problem sometimes you got to give it an extra push.
