Edward is truly intelligent and most people especially Hollywood cannot handle the full Artist he is and I appreciate Edward Norton and underrated. After the "Illusionist", I have become literally obsessed in his acting abilities and the many most impersonations in voice. Just so different for me at this time. It is so hard to find anyone to have a non-superficial conversation, and that is my struggle. Not that I am a scholar, but a person who needs substance. Thank you Edwardly as I call him. Peace and Long Acting. Come Back.
Edward Nortons performance as Derek Vinyard was so powerful and phenomenal performance in American History X. This is one of my favorite movies 🎥 i have seen and Edward Nortons best performance 🎭. I wished he had won an Oscar for this role .
@@nugsovile4333 agree... I don't think Eddie Furlong got enough credit for a difficult role he had to play as well in a difficult time in his life. He's never asked about it either on later interviews it's always terminator when I think this was one of his best movies!
Hell of good actor . Intelligent on his character play . Highly educated individual lot of people had been taught so much bigot ideas how to avoid them in there life.
This movie perfectly illustrates shadow integration. That we are not all good or all bad, we can be both. Racism in of itself is just hate projected. People will find vehicles to pedal their hate and satiate their urge towards it gravitating toward groups or anything that gives them meaning, understanding. Ironically that understanding can be misguideded. I think it shows that people like to view things in a linear way. When understanding is often more nuanced. Its a collection of ideas the form intelligent conversation and understanding.
@@mitch3384 Great post. I think its indicative of how everyone in this life is searching for belonging. So much so as you say they will run with pack, idealise perceptions to create and reaffirm their sense of identity. This avoident behaviour negates triggers toward their own traumatic experience of life. In metaphorical way we(society)are a mirror of each other and a lot of what triggers us lives within us. However we reject it because it comes from our environment. It comes from our experience of others and the world. I suppose its gods way of learning us that our behaviour will manifest in our experiences until we understand the needs for change. Then we will see positive experience reflected toward us. Like everything it should be about balance. Thats if we want true understanding.
Watch the movie, even if you think you'll hate it. I looked away at a couple violent parts but the rest is mesmerising, the way it is shot and the strength of Ed's performance just MUST be seen by any cinephile or anyone really.. It's one of the best character arcs you'll see in a recent movie, honestly. Also, there's still so much hate in the world passed down its message will always be relevant - everything has more than 1 dimension, that's what makes it truly believable and relatable, even to mass shootings today in America. It doesn't have to be explicitly racial, just killing people for pure hate.
She wasn't a step daughter.. she was just a kid his wife adopted. I don't believe he ever was her father as she didn't see him. That whole thing was twisted by a women that had Frank's kid while married to woody..
This film is absolutely brilliant and overwhelming, it takes us from shadow to light alternately, sometimes what seems bright is obscure and conversely only the intelligence of Life leads to good discernment, the experience of life in prison with a beneficial reversal of values despite the ordeal, a real turnaround towards the light and the heart, I believe that this film should be brought to the attention of many young people, Edward Norton is absolutely Fabulous!!! he is inhabited by his character and transcendental! I know very few actors able to convey such a message with so much accuracy of soul and intelligence! With all my heart I love Edward Norton, he is more than an actor in the classic sense of the term. 🙏💜
Edward Norton did awesome in this movie all hes scenes were amazing played the Derek Role perfectly im glad they used him instead of Phoenix American history x sends a great message at the end that hatred is no good life to short to be pissed of all the time that everyone should be treated equally no matter what color you are put and end to all racism
Such a fine looking man and so intelligent and well spoken. Not to mention absolutely drop dead gorgeous eye candy. Ed Norton was a lucky bloke being able to sit up close and interact with that gorgeous physical specimen.
...what I don't get is why his fans deny him being "complicated". He is - and that's a good thing! Hollywood is makin' movies to make money, not to create pieces of art. If we want honest movies we can relate to, there needs to be communication on sets, they need to discuss ideas - to work together. That's hard work and challenging as fuck. Therefore, a lot of people feel uncomfortable as they just want to get payed. 😉
At the end his little brother dies and he thought it was his fault not knowing the brother blew smoke in a kids face who shot him. Derek thought it was payback for his wrongdoing.
In a way, it was Derek's fault. He introduced his brother to the hatred and that way of life (racism). If he never exposed that way of life to his brother, his brother would of treated people of color better and this tragedy would have never have happened.
Is this where he got his inspiration for Sammy bagel Jr’s voice in sausage party? I could have swore his voice in that movie sounds exactly like woody Allen.
One of your interviews it was brought up your baby sitter introduced you to acting classes as she was in Les Miz the musical. If this is true, let it be known, if it is true?. Give credit where it belongs, if this is true??
Excellent response. The feeling of belonging is only a great human need. Most kids like you said, they are not even aware, or understand. I've learned it to be "Copy Cat Behavior". No different than a drug addiction, you try it because your friend does it and you don't want to feel left behind, not knowing the Power of it's hold on you. Speaking from experience. Anyone on Charlie Rose to me are intellectuals. Peace and Blessings
All I have to say, if elementary schools are going to spend K-8 pumping critical race theory to our children, then they can at least show this movie to them once a year Like Norton said, it is a movie that propagates thought on the topic, not just being told how to think based on societal "Morality."
This movie is highly inappropriate for children. You don’t win an argument by suggesting outlandish things. You can teach history in an age appropriate way.
Most underrated actor ever and he was great in this film 🎥
Make America great again! 🤚🍀🇺🇸
😂
Norton is a phenomenal actor. This film will remain relevant for decades to come
Prob one of the most prolific thought provoking pieces of cinema from my generation. Beautifully filmed with wonderful acting!
Such an empathic analysis. He's downright geeky. Brilliant fellow. Loved this movie...This man straight out channels his characters.

If you haven't seen him with Jenna Elfman and Ben Stiller in Keeping the Faith, you really should. I love his range as an actor.

Norton was so good in this film, shame they didnt bring Furlong in too

One of the best actors ever
people should watch this movie and then watch this interview right afterwards. Ed is such an intelligent actor
Father figures, or lack thereof run so deep in this film. So perfectly made.
This was right around when he was probably shooting Fight Club around that year promoting this film
To go from adding 20 lbs of muscle, to losing that and more mass for Fight Club is astounding. I wonder which he would say was harder.
Funny how Norton could have easily played Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden judging by his performance in American History X
The interviewer talks more than Edward does.
Such an intelligent guy!
His voice is so comforting

Hope Edward didn’t learn to marry his own stepdaughter like Woody Allen did. Since the interviewer keeps asking what he learn from woody. Sick dude.

Why has he not made more such great films? Because the film industry has gone into the toilet trying for big bucks making juvenile superhero movies,
Estoy leyendo una historia fantastica Don Quijote beware yourself and your mind
He looked way different on the honeymooners
How does he look 10 years younger than he did in the movie?
