There's a tumblr post about being "the most fuckable person in this grocery store" that I truly think about all the time. Both when I'm being very Extra and when I'm not. Whenever I'm running errands in a garbage outfit I find myself thinking "sometimes you don't want to be the most fuckable person in the grocery store"

6:21 fun fact, bees can actually overthrow their queen if they think she's not laying enough of the right kinds of eggs. the nurse bees will start raising a new queen in preparation. and when her personal attendants get the signal, they all start grabbing onto her and swarming her in a process called "balling" (yes, seriously) and eventually smother the queen to death using their collective body heat. so actually bees are about as pro-worker as it gets. the queen serves her daughters, not the other way around.
Yeah as they were mentioning the monarchy thing I kept thinking of how it can actually be a problem for beekeepers when the hive keeps killing their queens

Because it's the spinoff about dystopian children's card games. The card game itself is also socially stratified.
There's a distopian police branding system because the AI control system for a nuclear power plant (powered by card games) became self-aware and annihilated all humans expect for 4 who turned themselves into androids to time travel and prevent this from happening by blowing up the nuclear plant early obviously.
Also the brandings are GPS trackers.
it's not even ultra specific, it's like the whole premise of the first part of 5Ds
to be fair the police state stuff is pretty much confined to 5d's and the arc v dimension based off it. yugioh usually trends more towards a corporate dystopia-when-you-think-about-it for its various universes.

They joke about hair, but when I got a haircut in high school (went from long to a short bob) my good friend LITERALLY AVOIDED ME for a solid 10 minutes because he thought I was some rando that came over to our friend group. He didn’t realize it was me until I looked at and spoke with him directly. This is a guy I’d known for multiple years and had even briefly dated by that point. It still makes me laugh when I think about it LOL

@@nikkiofthevalley not in specific. The idea of folding into a suitcase I got from The Lost Hero, from the Percy Jackson sequel series, but it's less a reference and more of an allusion, per TomSka's Somerton Scale. Behind the ear is just a good place for a button

The bullet of the B Movie gun should be the entire script of the Bee Movie coming out of the gun like floating text. Picture a very squished and horizontal Star Wars text crawl but it moves at bullet speed.

I'm really finding such delight in the occasional comic that gets done in drawfee, it's never expected, just when you feel like it. I love that.
I like that Karina's characters look just like the ones she drew years ago for the "Things That Aren't Creepy" episode. Apparently, after luring/welcoming people into their hole/home, they love to get aggressively fabulous.

Huge thanks to David for including blurbs explaining Death Note. As someone who hasn't watched a ton of anime (although I'm getting into Evangelion now and it's excellent), it's nice to not have to pick things up from osmosis lol
Julia is the queen of realistic, minute details so I was fully expecting the reflection in the spoon to be upside down, despite the fact that it would arguably be a worse drawing for it lol

Okay so... the prison branding in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5-D's and then the Julia's joke about being corporate sponsored by McDonald's brings me to an EXCELLENT but extremely depressing book I'm reading called Chain-Gang All-Stars, by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. The whole premise is that America's privatized prison system introduces a televised sport in which prisoners can sign up to earn their freedom by surviving for three years while being pitted against other prisoners in death matches. Sure enough, prisoners who survive long enough can gain corporate sponsors who will give you "Blood Points" to earn weapons or information about your opponents, so you literally have people wearing or getting tattoos of the logos of (sometimes barely disguised) companies like LifeDepot, WholeMarket, and Horizon Wireless.
Again, excellent but depressing book. Highly recommend it.
Loosely tapping into the same concept as Deadman Wonderland.

Jacobs character is a stand user named, Barry B. Benson.
Hes from an arc not released yet where all stands are based on early 2000's animated feature length movies. Which implies the existence of Megamind and shrek stands. Maybe the stands name is actually jazz. Ooh and maybe theres a oncest stand based off of the onceler or however you spell it. Draw it nathan. I dare you.

Fun fact about bees: if their queens are not benefiting the hive and general population, I believe they select a new better queen, and then crowd around the old one and raise her body temperature until she overheats and dies.
So yeah on all fronts, Bees are THE most unionised of animals on every step.
I watched this and felt a deep need to say that while bees do have a queen, if the queen isn’t doing as she should and laying many many eggs, the worker bees will raise a new queen and get rid of the old one so yeah, bees totally rise up against the 1% when they aren’t providing as they should for the hive

Jacob's story reminded me that I once woke up feeling absolutely crestfallen because I had dreampt of the 1 thing I was missing in my life to give it meaning, but when I woke up I couldn't remember what it was. I just knew it wasn't in my life

This is an appreciation post for the editing of not just this episode but pretty much every 2024 episode. It has been fantastic. Love all the transition animations, and extra things like the explanation of Death Note for non-anime fans. I haven't seen people acknowledge them, but they are awesome!

as someone whose outfits are always hype: it's because i wear the exact same clothes every day when i'm home. all outfit energy is allocated to leaving the house. it's a facade.
That yugioh brand thing is a great idea for a corporate dystopia. If you commit a crime, then the company that you committed your crime against will brand you with their logo.
Bees will kill their Queens if they are unhappy. So, your Bee Yugioh guy is spot on with overthrowing part.
I love when a pair of episodes or a stream and episode are very obviously connected and recorded same day, and you get a lot of the same vibes and similar jokes and stuff. I can't find this one's pair but I remember the heavy wind and "thinking somebody was breaking in at night from the wind" stories and the same vibes of "what is happening today" "even less than one shared brain cell." It's very funny to me, like with the episode pair where Julia thought it was the pokemon episode in the intro, and then the actual pokemon episode

Karina's gadget makes me think of the game Fashion Police Squad, which is basically a Doom-clone but instead of killing demons you're giving people better outfits.
I mean, I didn't forget the sleep steps but i did wake up in a blind panic yesterday because i couldn't remember how you play the flute. I... Have never once played the flute.
I love the duality of Julia, where sometimes she goes above and beyond on something, and then other times she does her best to not have to draw much. Epic pieces every time though.

In the death spoon universe L exclusively lives off takeout and is banned from using all kitchen appliances, and light keeps trying to trick him into doing incredibly basic food preparation, like cutting the bruises out of fruit, but is constantly thwarted by the fact that this man will not eat anything that isnt heavily processed

On the topic of bees and monarchy: technically worker bees are the ones in charge since they’re the ones who choose a larvae to specifically feed it to be sexually mature and once it hatches, they will kill the old queen by balling (no the 🏀 kind of balling) they cluster tightly around her and vibrate until she overheats and dies
