    If Karl looks anxious, it's probably because a lot of the show is unscripted and poor Karl isn't sure which way the conversation is going to go. I would be nervous too !😂

    Yup, Buckingham is Bucking'em. Birmingham is Birming'em. Yorkshire is York'shuh. Leicester is Lester. Worcester is Wuster. It can get pretty confusing for non-Brits.

      Another complication is that the pronunciation of place names can vary due to regional accents. You may notice Ricky mocking Karl sometimes over how he pronounces some place names.

    With the pronunciation of Buckingham, it varies depending on someone's accent for example Karl is from up north so his pronunciation is completely different to someone who is from down south (near London).

    Karl isn't so much strange as "Mancunian" (from Manchester). My husband is from there and he is the same - constantly seems underwhelmed by everything, monosyllabic unless he is angry, zero life experiences outside of Manchester and very contrary. Bless him. 🤣

    There are a few others similar to this. One really good one is Ricky and Karl doing Mr and Mrs. That basically involves them both being asked questions about Karl such as likes and dislikes, and seeing if Ricky can guess what Karl will say.

    Just remember that Karl actually thinks....that this is a real learn English programme. While Ricky knows full well this is just a wind up! Brilliant!
    And while Karl thinks that...he actually acting like it's a real travel guide for Chinese people. London Eyye.
    It's basically "the worst English lesson ever" (as Ricky remarks) and, unsurprisingly, the worst real travel guide for Chinese people.
    An improv comedy masterpiece like no other and a high totem of British humor. Endlessly rewatchable.

    He is nervous mostly because he has no idea what awkward situations Ricky might put him in during the discussion, and there is always a possibilty Ricky might start wrestling with him or put a rubbish bin on his head (again)😂😂😂

    Yes this is why we said to see his live facial expressions as it gives an insight to the workings of his mind. You're right Ricky does this because he knows Karl hates this type of thing, Karl is so done with near everything in life and Ricky likes to take advantage of that, the exact type of thing you will see in Idiot Abroad...Karl being put of of his comfort zone. Will look forward to you watching more of real life Karl. Keep up the good work Rich!

      @@richrants5858 Karl predicted quite a lot of things on the podcasts/XFM shows. The pandemic, Augmented Reality - the Oculus Rift headset, Pokemon Go, etc. - and I'm certain he said devices like the iPod and iPhone will get smaller/thinner down the line. And Ricky and Steve just laughed at him, said it was bollocks, and then said he had a head like a fucking orange.

    I think people who think Carl is nervous don't get it. He's a deadpan comedy genius playing an exagerrated version of himself, and it's bloody brilliant :)
    It's classic comedy - you have the "clown" who constantly makes jokes and the "straight man" who pretends not to get the jokes, and somehow it just works

    Funny review. Yeah. Brits say hmm or emm not HAM, especially in place names. For example the UKs major city - Birmingham. Americans say and emphasise HAM. Brits just say emm/hmm depending on your local accent.

    Karl was talking bout the pronounciation of "where" and "wear", they are the same, u are actually acting a bit like Karl when u presume he is talking bout the spelling :P
    also, the "massage parlor" scene when he goes straight to "we are busy today.. tomorrow?", it isn´t that he is complicating it, he is just lazy and uncomfortable and thinks it will all end if he skips that bit, thus incorporating his laziness into the character :D

    The Buckingham - Bucking - um/em is just an accent thing. The UK is bizarre when it comes to accents we have thousands of them. You can travel 2 miles and people speak in an accent so different it is almost another language.
    PS -- Keep going with Taskmaster. I would love to see Karl on it one day.

      Fisted is a word. There is a vulgar meaning to the word but I was not referring to that. I thought it would be easier for someone whose first language isn't English to understand the word clench or clenched if I gave a synonym he could easily picture.

    As much as I love Ricky he is actually bullying Karl. I don't think he realizes it or won't admit it to himself. Over time that constant barrage can grind you down. A bit of winding your mates up is one thing, doing it for too long and taking it too far is cruel. Karl is his Whipping boy.
    I think that's one of the reasons Karl stopped working with Ricky. It wasn't good for his mental health. Karl is a top bloke.

    No, Karl taught you the Northern way of saying Buckingham, "Booking-am" the way you knew it is right haha and the word i think you were looking for at the start was "tense"

      I'm almost 40 and have traveled all over England in my time and have never, not once, ever, encountered a native English person, northern or southern, who pronounces it "Bucking-ham". It has always been "Buckingem" or "Buckinem".

      @@YouGuys thats generally only because brits (influenced by london centric culture) dont pronounce H properly, which is why most say "An 'ouse" rather than "A House" haha
