After 23 years, I finally managed to completely digitize my Hi8 videos.
Fortunately, over 90% of the analog video cassettes are still perfect, but the quality of the video tapes has fluctuated considerably, the main problem was poorly running, jamming magnetic tapes, and to make matters worse, the Hi-8 tapes were relatively expensive, but it did not fail to appear from time to time Band salad emerged, then the recording was / is over!
Now to the quality of the videos: The picture quality is in no comparison to today! Every smartphone has been making much better videos than the best Hi8 video camera for years. The Hi8 cameras at that time were only intended for amateur purposes, the equipment and quality were poor compared to today. A catastrophically slow, not turnable, bad autofocus, no anti-blur technology.
