    Grew up on a farm in England, Father had a 165 open platform good for the yard work, but savage cold at seeding time. Our neighbour a large dairy farmer had the new tractors, all MF a 575, 590, 698, the 698 was replaced with a 699. I mostly drove the 590, in the early 80's this was a dream machine. The 698, & 699 were luxury. As mentioned previously, the 70's and early 80's were the pinnacle for MF some of the best tractors available. In the region JD took over on the sales, the cab at the time was impressive compared to the competition.

    We farm with 2 of the 699's in east TN. We love the comfort and maneuverability of these tractors. Great power as well and they perform great on the steep hills we face.

      We had 699 with a cab go up for auction in NE Iowa a few years back. Like most fellas, we all thought it would go cheap in Deere country......nope! It would've worked well for me for what I needed it for, but it went way too high to explain to wife why we needed it - ha ha ha ha!

    Dad test drove one of these new back in the day. Had long axles and he wanged the barn door with it. The patch on the door is still there lol. Loved the three lever shifting. Turtle turtle 3.

    MF-699 is what you get when you merge the front half of a MF-1105 with the back half of a MF-1085 . A tractor midway between the two built with off the shelf parts that are already field proven to be tuff .

      Hi @craigalston2208 , , in fact the 699, it was a 2620 europe engine, a 595 transmission and a landini cabin.... and we got an MF 699 with 95 horsepower/engine, an 1105 engine was much more powerful and turbo Also , it was the MF policy of the early 80s in Europe.... we take left and right, we mix and we get something new

    The MF 699 with its Perkins 354.4 engine was an excellent tractor, so much better than the 4 cylinder MF 698. Simple, well tested design, just a shame the cabs were not up to the job and rusted out if not protected from the weather.

    • @opasvintagegarage
      @opasvintagegarage  Год назад

      Agree, that's frustrating when a cab rusts. Our neighbor has a JD 7810 with some rust on his cab and our 4240 that's been washed a total of 10 times since 1979 has no rust! Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it!

      Robert, From memory the cabs were from Italy, and as you mentioned they rusted like a cheep anchors. Some other manufactures used the same cab, Hurliman from memory.

      @@astonmcleod5344 I came along by looking for old MF stuff. The cabin was built in Italy by SIAC. The other brand using this Design, was Landini. Some european MF models were built in italy by Landini, like MF 1014 (Landini 10000). SIAC also built Cabins for Deutz-Fahr, SLH group and Fiat in the past. In present SIAC build up cabins for every big player in the business, like Agco, Volvo, NewHolland, Liebherr, Kubota, JCB, CNH, Claas and so on

      Yes, the cabs were made in Italy. The same cab was used on Landini models.
      And they rust like no other tractor, I have never seen as rusty cabs as the MF 600 series. Some have almost nothing left of the floor or doors. Unbelievable.

    a very good tractor, the later models had more comforts ran from 83 to 86, never seen them in the US were very popular in uk and Ireland, the pocket rocket of the series was 698T. anyhow thanks for sharing

      Many are in our southern part of US, but a few are still being used in Iowa. I went to a local auction in Iowa and saw a 699 on the sale bill. I went not specifically for that, but hoping to get a small diesel tractor with that HP. Well, many fellas went with the same desire and the 699 sold for a high price, so it went home with someone else! I did a little investigating and found they hold their value here in the US. Since Iowa is Deere country, I was hoping to get a deal……nope! Thanks for watching and commenting, always nice to see our friends form the UK!

      @@opasvintagegarage Were a fair number around here in South Georgia, but the 298 outsold them at that point in the 80s, we was broke. Now when the 399 came out towards the end of the 80's, everyone had one including us. Good tractors, most of which got worked far harder than they should have been. Biggest downfall of all those Masseys that vintage was the cabs, could not keep a working air conditioner in those tractors to save your life, just undersized from factory, the electronics were pure junk in the larger models but that wasn't an issue for the three number models. Regret getting rid of our 399, it was a good tractor, we just worked it harder than it ever should have been.

      699 outsold every other 600 series combined 3-1 in my area, 300 series was the same way, everyone had a 399, hardly ever saw a smaller model, maybe an occasional 383 and that was it.

      Front grille has a spring loaded electric contact unit at the top for the lights. The corresponding part on the tractor can just be seen between the air filter and the horn. Worked fine when new, but soon corroded. Most ended up being bypassed with a long length of 3 core cable being fitted instead.
