Active speakers come with inbuilt amplifier. Which means you can directly plug them into your computer or your DJ equipment. Passive speakers need an amplifier to be able to deliver, however give you very precise range. If you are looking to record vocals I would suggest you go for studio headphones along with these monitors Regards
Not true, these speakers are good for mixing and mastering if you know how to do those things right..the only difference between the m audio bx8's is that theres less bass from what I know since i used to own them
dam its true i just mixed something and vocals came out low i didnt think they where gonna do that but you know this more like for beats and not vocals stuff

Is the headphone out amplified? The main reason I still use a bulky hi-fi set on my computer i beacause it amplifies my headphone aswell, but I want to change to something more compact...
Yea mastering is pretty much the easiest thing cuz its just messing wit the volume and the separation wit the instrumental or vocals if you're making beats..i use logic pro 9..im actually upgrading to pro tools since I've basically mastered logic pro and i want something different..but yea i mix and master my own stuff..im making my mix tape this summer

No i wouldn't. 90% of the things that are "Damaged" like torn box,cracks are thrown away. things that work, that could be donated are thrown away by all those big retailers. they don't give a shit. they make a mistake, tough luck for them. Im sure the ceo who can't afford to pay their workers above the minimum because he is too busy in the Bahamas could care less.
be warned. dont touch the left speaker after about 30 min. theyll burn the crap outta you. matter of fact, i dont think ive ever felt an electronic device get so hot so fast. P.s. the left speaker has the guts in it. alot heavier than the right.
Good sound for a low price, but the poor design makes the back of the active so hot it can cook an egg and that causes it to break after a short while. M-audio cant repair it either.....
Anyone who says mastering is easy is an idiot. There is a reason professionals send out tracks to professional studios and pay hundreds of dollars to have them mastered.
I bought the Av30s at bestbuy today. 79 bucks and came in a big brown box. Opened the box when i got home and guess what? THERE WERE TWO SETS. Lol the dumbasses never unpacked the boxes before they put them out on display. So I got 2 sets for the price of one.

No, you can just switch the cable position (The RCA) and is just OK
Well the below 90 khz thing is just the actual bass, below 90 hz or whatever is pretty low, so naturally not as easy to pick up by the human ear
The left speaker of my AV30 set stopped making sound. Right is OK. Left , totally silent.

yeah, except the newer AV 30's don't come with the bass boost option.

Don't know if you'll get this but how did you connect the two RCA l/r outs from the monitor to the laptop?
