Boy, that Jeff is so valuable to have around. Thanks Jeff for helping on the ranch! I am sure the cows will love their new windbreakers!!!
I hope so too!
@@OurWyomingLife When the winter wind blows, they'll like it a LOT.
Great video. Was on my Harley, last year, in Wyoming. I saw wind breaks but didn’t know what they were for. Thanks for sharing.
Glad we could share! Thanks for watching.
All I could think about was......no rocks in the post holes......haha 😄 👍 nice 👌
And Jeff's Brake becomes a forever ranch momento. A cardboard stencil with spray paint. Would be a great send off for a great ranch hand and friend. I pray for rain to lighten the hay burden as much as possible.
Thats an idea Ed. Jeff will be missed around here thats for sure.
did you see any rattlesnakes under those panels? Would have thought it would have been a happy home for critters of all kinds.
I'm actually surprised I didnt
I'd hope you'd hear it before seeing a rattlesnake. Could be too late .
You guys take care of yourselves in that heat! We want to have you around for a long time! Jeff has definitely made himself an indispensable asset; very knowledgeable, very industrious, and a downright good ol cuss!
Thanks Wayne. Yes, I agree with you about Jeff!
That was fun watching you guys build a fence! As I lay on my couch.
LOL Thanks for watching Otis.
Looks like an awesome idea Jeff! I like it and looks like it will be super useful! Nice work Gentlemen!
Thanks! 👍
Love looking at farming in another country best of luck, we were in drought, winter here have had a snowfall last week, and nearly 16 inches of rain since late May, had 5.8 inches over 24 hours late May, best wishes from New Zealand.
most people dont eat mutton in this country
@@grantboucher9342 lamb Martin! is older sheep
I just heard NZ is back in lockdown. I also heard there is less than 20% of the population is vaccinated. I pray for your country that this new outbreak doesn't become out of control before everyone is vaccinated. Prayers from America 🙏🏻
Up here (Sask Canada) the recommendation is to make 25% porosity fence (2x6 rough.... 2" gap.... 2x6 rough etc)This reduces the amount of snow that builds up on the downwind side of the fence as, enough breeze gets through to disperse that snow. Otherwise, you get a swirl effect where the snow blows over , swirls around then drops straight down and makes a BIG drift on the back side of the fence.
Here in ND, NDSU tells us the same thing. I believe it. Someplaces we stack bales along fences for windbreak and I can tell you its to solid, the snow just swirls over and drifts bad. Its better than nothing but would rather have something different.
Mike... Just a suggestion from a person with only manual post-hole digging experience. Maybe dig one hole, measure the depth, and when it is as deep as you want it. Put the auger back in the hole, lay a stick or surveyor stake across the hole, and then spray some of the pink paint on the shaft of the auger. That way you can see from inside of the cab of the skid steer when the hole is deep enough. I did the same thing with my manual post-hole digger. I realize this is after the fact, but I'm sure these won't be the last post holes to ever be dug on the ranch.
Awesome seeing Jeff leave his mark! ♡
I agree, thanks!
if you put the center post on the opposite as the end posts would it have made the panels a little stiffer?
before you even mentioned the dry soil, I was thinking that the soil coming out was looking a little parched .
Very much so :)
I’m certain Jeff enjoys the time he spends with you and the ranch. Once in a while; however, I do worry about him lifting. I realize he knows what he is doing, but the older I get, the less I find I can do.
God Bless. Take Care
It’s great to have Jeff there…He’s a great help and has lots of ideas…..He needs another award????
I'm thinking he does
I agree
That one will definitely come in handy for those stubborn cows
Awsome... will u build couple more before winter? I am glad for your baby's place to go. God bless your family. We love watching your family and cattle. Actually cattle have always been my favorite 💓 critters. Thank you for sharing your story ❤.
New to your channel. Greetings from Ireland
Thanks for coming, hope you enjoy our content!
So I cleaned out a pond a cupple years ago an I purposely piled the mud for a wind break, the cows huddle behind a dead blown over tree what did I do wrong
It was pretty cool to see you guys building the wind break, on the webcam. I saw a vehicle in that area yesterday, and thought it must be the hunter.
May have been, who knows :)
Mike - "O man its so hot it didn't drop below 95 degrees until after 8pm"
Jeff walks into frame wearing a hoodie.....
It gets cold in a desert at night
Good use of recycled materials!
Thank you! Cheers!
Can you add a roof to that??!! In the snowy picture, they looked cold - especially the calves!! I know God took care of that with how He made them, but it still looks cold to me.
Another one marked off the project list. Great use of on hand materials and close to home!
Thanks K Flan.
We are new to your channel and Mike your awesome.
Thanks for subbing!
Great job done by both. I wouldn't want to work in that heat although I believe your humidity is low compared to the southern Indiana area.
It's bone dry in that part of the country!
Dont want to imagine the heat here with 50% or more humidity!
@@OurWyomingLife No me either. We've had a couple of 94° days with 75% humidity and it was awful. That's why I like summer better out west where humidity is lower.
Ranch Hand Jeff is Amazing!
Yes, he is!
Boy that’s a nice big one with a great looking design. I would think the cows would love it and I’m sure you will love it when you’re heading out into the winter night that you don’t have to go so far out. 👍🥰
Fingers crossed with that!
wow, i see you are getting some of that smoke from my neck of the woods.
Very smoky here, not much fun :)
Love Ranch Hand Jeff but we all know he is Family! We know he is such a great asset and gives much needed help on the ranch! This may have an obvious answer but why do you not put a roof on at least part of the windbreak? Thank you and have a blessed week on Our Wyoming Life!
I'm wondering about the roof too.
Me also. Just a lean roof. To keep snow off calves
Something you definitely need in Windy Wyoming. That's one thing I enjoyed about Wyoming. Obviously in winter the wind whistling off the wide open prairie could be ferocious. 💘 🐄 🐎 🐔 🇺🇸 Next Ranch weekend have a painting event on the windbreak.
Will the cows be licking their hooves and sticking them in the air to figure wind direction? :D
No I am sure they can feel it
LOL
Great job! 👍 Is Jeff still leaving soon in the fall? If he is, it would be good to get the big and heavy 💪 "to do" jobs done before he leaves. - Kim
Thanks, and that's the plan Kim!
5:00 "...if we get any flooding..." while he's in the middle of an historic drought. Gotta plan ahead !
Always gotta keep the future in mind!
Ever the optimist mindset!
Love older farms! Aka junk piles!👍🏾😀❤️🇺🇸
Great job !! gonna be some happy cows :)
Thank you, and I hope they like it!
Phenomenal how dry your country is. Great work. 😎🇺🇸
If you look up "DRY" in the dictionary I think you will find a picture of N/E Wyoming. Thanks for watching Gary A G
That's a great idea & awesome job guys. The cows are going to be very thankful. Y'all Take Care and God Bless
Thanks Tricia, and I think they will be happy with it.
I would have used 2 arrowheads. One aimed north and the other South with enough space between them for cows to slip in between them.
I've done the tractor bucket and forklift lift a few times 😁
We had one for our horses but put a round hole through it. It was north south direction.
Wyoming where the wind starts in September and ends in May
Agreed!
Uhhh hate to disagree but starts in August and ends in June …

Good Job Mike and Jeff! Keep up the hard work and your project list wont have anything on it.
Thanks, but the project list never seems to be empty.
Brilliant idea Jeff!!! BRAVO!!!
great to have that windbreak closer for calving season this year - thank goodness for Jeff as that job would not be easy on your own but with two guys totally achievable - I have to add the area you collected all your stuff from to make the windbreak should not be referred to as the Dump better wording would be the "Collection" as it has a collection of stuff you will need later - all farms have them one sometimes two
Good Evening to Our Wyoming Life and all others too. Happy Tuesday Mike
Thanks 👍
That's Awesome!! Good Job Guys!! 😀❤⚘
That was a cool project, I'm certain you'll trap some cow appreciation from that lol. I know they'll use it.
LOL They never say Thanks for anything! LOL Thanks for watching.
It look perfect Mike and Jeff. very sturdy
Thanks Rodney
if my dad buys a house near Gillette this year ill definitely swing by and pick up some beef jerky. my favorite is teriyaki but if you have small samples of your other flavors available i might be persuaded to buy a different flavor or two of them.
-im curious, would you be in need of hiring another ranch hand?-
Jeff is a volunteer… I believe…
@@janvafa9959 forgot about that. youre absolutely right.
I would add 3 small orange flags on posts so you can visually see wind direction from a distance
In your video when you explored the dump I first saw these panels and instantly knew they'd make great wind breaks. I even mentioned it. The zig zag pattern is brilliant, protecting from both directions.
A squared plus B squared equals C squared,Pythagorean theorem. The carpenter lives and dies by it.
Why not free standing one’s that u can move around
I would have thought that a rectangle with cow access would have been better. I'm a Georgia boy with no idea how to protect cows from the winter weather.
From the experience rectangle tend to fill up with snow…
Living in Kentucky we have big beautiful trees I can't imagine not having any good video glad Jeff is there to help you
I would like to see ranch hand Jeff wear a cowboy hat.
Ya Mike to be honest I have always worried about those little calves being born in that snow all wet and dirty but I know that's how they have been born for hundreds of years you just worry
used to work for a lumber store and had to bring 16-18ft wood through a 10 ft door. found it easier to back in instead of going forward, may want to try that out , works for some. just hug the edge and swing in around
I am completely jealous of your post hole digging set up. Great video!
The auger sure is handy. Thanks for watching Watcher
Good work, brings back memories of working on the farm when I was younger. It’s awesome that Jeff is out there help you.
my sister in law wants to know if Jeff has a good loving woman do his cooking and such
Yes he does.
Yes, He does ^^^^ Her!
It's good to see you re-use materials. A city slick would have just thrown all that away and then called someone to build it for them. I agree, Jeff is definitely one very hard working man and his attitude is country excellent!
That turned out really awesome, GREAT JOB MIKE AND JEFF.
Thanks Alison, the real test will be come a blizzard.
That was a fun video. Very informative for a non-rancher/farmer like me. I have been watching farming and ranching channels for a little over a year, and I am very grateful for what I have learned. I had no idea how much thought, labor, industriousness, creativity, sacrifice, and worry went into those industries. More people need to log onto these types of channels to see how much work from people like you is required to fill the grocery stores with our food, which we gather with our little grocery carts.
Thanks for saying that Yankee Clipper
I’m watching you lift those very heavy posts with a tractor, loader, and log chain sitting right there. 😊
You guys are living the big heavy post by hand when you got a tractor sitting there and a skid stir don’t make sense in my book I was always taught to work smarter not harder
It would take alot longer and for me it’s smarter to get it done. No one here is afraid of a little work
It’s nice to have some help. You both work so hard!
Yes it is nice!
You can either call it a w or an M out in that field
95 degrees, that's Our Florida Life. Lol
minus the 95% humidity, LOL
Good job that windbreaker definitely will work
I'm praying that you get some rain on Thursday weather is showing good for you on that day
Thanks, and I hope so too!
Great minds think alike.. You two work so well together.
😊 thank you
@@OurWyomingLife Jeff is a perfect hand for the ranch. Also like he was inspired by Gilbert to come help and hopefully stay. Blessing come in many ways.
Amazing that you can tell the wind speed from that trick your dad taught you, too!
LOL
Well done friend always like to watch your videos
Thank you very much Freddy.
So sorry to hear about Rose ❤️
I thought you were breaking wind on the ranch.
That happens all the time! LOL
Nice Mike great build n as always great video.....just one of ur fan's.......
You always have a plan in mind
It's great watching you two work together!
Glad you enjoy it, as do I. Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed the video and those cows will surely love this when it’s needed. Have a fantastic day. Lisa@moneypit homestead
I didn't see cement used to secure the post in the ground
And if I'm correct I love that nothing used for a curious cow to try to lick n eat it..just hope that that dry desert dirt will hold up our new beast windbreaker
FANTASTIC JOB MIKE AND JEFFS, HATS OFF TO U 2.
CANT WAIT TILL CALVING BEGINS
Wish you had some of our rain in ASHEVILLENC, WE BROKE A RECORD FOR MOST RAIN IN ONE DAY,HAD MUCH DAMAGE FROM FLOODS,LOST LIVES FROM LAND SLIDE. TO MUCH AT ONE TIME IS DANGEROUS. JEFF IS ONE AMAZING HARD WORKER,CAN’T FIND MANY LIKE HIM.THANK S JEFF FOR YOUR HARD WORK,SO THANKFUL FOR HELPING OUT AT THE RANCH,WE LOVE WATCHING YOUR WORK….
Ole man Jeff is probably saying...if he put that damn camera down we could get some work done...kids now days got to film everything...the list gets bigger and mike just wants film..
Novice here, so I don't know what I'm talking about. Don't know if it would work for you...but Sonne Farms in So. Dakota has similar wind break panels. They aren't permanently installed. They set the panels up vertically (upright like a wall) in the winter for wind breaks, but in the summer, they rotate them 90 degrees (corrugated panel now the roof) to make sun shades for their Black Angus herd. I believe they only had to weld a couple of poles onto the panel to make it stable in either configuration. Just a thought...here's the video of what they did: ruclips.net/video/9kOCOijiZy4/видео.html
Just luv u guys. I especially luv Jeff and his quiet Spirit. Getting the job Done is him Some. Must make u feel real good to be able to do all oat everything on the Ranch. Congratulations to u both. I am sure the Cows r going to Appreciate u both for ur support. Now Let's Continue!
Kudos' to Jeff for the "project list" .Winter will soon be here and it's time to work on inventory; animal health and stock pile forages.
Just looked at the webcam. Turned out nice.
Thanks
Mike, I can't believe you don't wear gloves, especially around those edges of the tin or potential slivers from those post.
I didn’t know GoPro‘s overheated DJI Cameras not overheat
Mike,
I love your project videos. My current life is like your previous life in business. You inspire me to do things on my own. I watched videos on renovating my shower and it is almost done. Plus, instead of hiring a painter, I bought a paint sprayer and some covering material and painted my own house. I ended up looking like frosty the snowman but after cleaning up, I was back to normal and my house looks great! Thank you for your videos.
Fill those wholes in the ground before an animal gets hurt ?????????
I wonder how much coverage it would be to put one up from southwest to northeast. Might also cut more of that cold northwestern wind…Was just thinking here at 7:00 a.m. That looks good!
Get down from up there!
Jeff wearing a sweater mid summer ???????? He must be cold blooded ! But then people that live in warm/ hot areas often wear three layers of clothing when is 100 degrees. They have to be a bit odd !!!!
Howdy Mike, Breaking Wind can see that on a T-Shirt with Blonde Cow. Have A Day! ;~)
Still don't understand why you don't put up a two-sided shelter with a roof so that the cows have a shelter that doesn't have snow on the ground in the calving season.🤔🤔🤔. You had a lot of half frozen calves this past Spring from laying on snow covered ground.
Mike, I am knew to your channel and not a rancher, however would like to ask you are question if I may.
What are your thoughts on IP13 in Oregon and the anti-meat agenda that is growing momentum around the world?
cant get enough wind breaks in WY
Thats for sure Banjo!
Thanks for sharing that’s pretty awesome 👏 cows will love it.
We farm in the southeast and we don’t have as much wind as you guys have. Our big thing is providing shade to the cattle. Do you all have to provide shade too?
