Interesting how he used the Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose guitar riff for Cold Sweat here. I would bet this is right before Give It Up was recorded. He did the same thing probably a few months later when he used the soon to be Sex Machine guitar riff while singing Give It Up.
Yeah, I know what you're talking about; on the Mike Douglas Show in 1970. I don't know what month it was but I think Sex Machine was recorded and released already while Phelps used the riff in 'Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose.'
@@classicrellz24 You got that right because he is that syncopated drummer on the original version of Give It Up Or Turnit Loose, He is also the drummer on the Hollywood Palace episode with Sammy Davis Jr
@@williamparker3328 To add on to that, I believe he played drums on Marva Whitney's "Things Got To Get Better" live on Music Scene in November 1969. The same episode where JB performed "Mother Popcorn" with the band sitting down.
Please who ever uploaded this video you GOTTA TURN DOWN THE GAIN VOLUME CONTROL!!! THE VOLUME AND OVERALL SOUND IS TOTALLY DISTORTED.. IT RUINS THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE - Also, although not as terrible as the sound, but the visual aspect seems to have been "filtered" thru a multiple color psychedelic spectrum!? There are no reasons to add ANY visuals nor sound effects to ANY of James Brown shows performances or concerts.. it's totally unnecessary.. frankly it only destroys and takes away from the pure greatness of the event itself. A James Brown performance = Pure Soul Power + JB's original style of raw, nitty gritty Funk with traditional elements of Blues, Jazz & Gospel.. No special effects needed whatsoever
Mr. Brown the king of super heavy soul.
Holy mutha the drum solo is like a nuclear detonation, as tough as they come

Awesome stuff, great work Dyson!

Who is the drummer ?
Camera work really sucked!
Is that the great Melvin Parker on drums? he never gets enough credit.
Louis GREEN That's the underrated Nate Jones.

The special effects totally ruined this performance!! JB is someone u have to SEE!!
I think "Cold Sweat" should've been the closer not "Kansas City".
