    The funny part about this Moist Meter is how it might seem like Charlie is over-exaggerating or being sarcastic when explaining the game, but that's actually how Yakuza works.

      But their games have always been pretty wacky and goofy but that’s the charm of them and I love it. Yakuza 0 is one of my favorite games and that’s just for the story alone, they have goofy side quest and activities and they translate well into this game.

      Yakuza is like Dragon quest tbh (even more now that the mainline will probably become a JRPG)
      isn't a game for everyone but you can't really hate the game because it has a lot of charm.

      @stevevon7694 3 года назад +14

      @Spanish Inquisition I personally like turn based combat so I may be a bit biased. Regular Yakuza brawling before 7 was getting a little boring after a while anyways. I like the fact that you can block hits while it's the enemies turn. So when they come up to hit you, you can block their attacks potentially if you time it right. Kind of skillful in a way since you have to block at the exact same time they hit you.

    • @stevevon7694
      @stevevon7694 3 года назад +14

      I would also say that it's definitely not bad considering a lot of the steam reviews have 100+ hours minimum.

    • @frownieclownie
      @frownieclownie 3 года назад +6

      @Spanish Inquisition I've grown up on turn based RPGs so I may be biased, but I think the combat is a breath of fresh air and you should honestly give it a try.
      With Ichiban being Dragon Quest obsessed and desiring to be that of a hero from the game, the combat follows an RPG battle system which is very similar to that.
      In which you don't clear a wave of enemies just by mashing buttons, but you're required to think strategically (exploit key weaknesses, use a lot of buffs, debuffs and etc) so the combat has a strategic direction and you're always required to think two steps ahead and attack with precision (though if you play on an easier difficulty, the games more forgiving but you still have to exploit weaknesses, buffs and or debuffs with bosses).
      The game still maintains its Yakuza difficulty as I'm a longtime legend difficulty player and I found myself dying a few times here (whether it be due to a miscalculation and me thinking I can wait a turn to do a buff, me not doing a tag team attack or blocking).
      The combat maintains the "Yakuza wackiness" whether it be with more visually pleasing attacks or simpler attacks that replicate that of the previous combat (in terms of humour, swagger and animation). I feel it's rather reminiscent in which the combat remains the same, just more command based.
      Once you pick it up for a few hours, you notice more similarities and find more strategies to build around it in comparison to the older combat.
      Sorry for the long comment! But I just want to make sure my reply has as much depth as possible to convince you to try this as I think you're missing out! I really think this game will stick with you.

In fact these are the only two games in the series im very happy to replay 2 or 3 times, not because i missed a side activity or the story isn't suitable for someone new to to franchise, but because the more you know about the series up to that point, the more you get from plot points and dialogue.
      0 is the epitome of old yakuza finally opening up to the public, finally able to brush up the direction of the franchise after years of spin-offs and mainline games, while yakuza 7 is a promising new beginning for the franchise.

    As a fan that's played through the entire series, I loved the hell out of this game. The turn-based combat, when it's all said and done, doesn't feel any more time consuming over the previous games, especially the bosses, where they've been force-paced through the whole series anyway.
    As for the english VA, I think they did quite a fine job here. My only complaint, which is pretty trivial, is that they didn't get Mark Hamil to come back and voice Majima like he did in the original english release of Yakuza on the PS2.

Lemme tell ya, so far, this game has been just as good as the previous entries in its own right. The music is really nice, the combat flows well and is easy to master, the side-quests are fun and the game doesn't force you to do them. Cutscenes are a bit long, but they're pretty to look at so I don't mind. Expect to spend anywhere between 1 and like 10 minutes in a cutscene when the game starts presenting its story.

    @Lukemyfather1 3 года назад +3

    I 100% agree. The progression is nice, and theres a couple endgame dungeons you can do, but the endgame is kind of lacking in terms of meat. Like yes, you can do every substory (except after about 70% through the game there are no new ones, only ones locked behind personality levels), maybe catch all the sujimon or like a hero subquests, but thats more of checking item boxes and prowling around for the like, one or two super low level guys you missed somehow. The story and character development was amazing start to finish, and the combat was still good til the end too, though its super easy to find out what the best tactic is, i.e do an aoe skill with breaker that kills like 5-7 people, than single target the other 2 down, super easy. I would highly recommend it though, there are the same minigames from other yakuza games, excluding bowling / game specific like pocket circuit from Yakuza 0, and all of the game is pretty logical in story progression too. The money minigame is alot quicker than the other ones, mostly because youre not having to go beat up people because they want a turf war or something, its super quick and easy to get to top company in maybe a couple hours of playing, and the money payout caps out at 3mil every 5 minutes or so, so youll never have money problems. There are some useless things that I believe are just par for the course, like enemies dropping loot, which seems odd, but when you can buy any crafting material you could ever need, besides gems and super high level mats that you wont get from trash mobs anyways, so it kind of seems like they have it in *because* its a turn based rpg.

    B) It does that really stupid "If the main character is knocked out, its game over" mechanic, where if Ichi gets knocked out, the battle is over and you lose, despite the rest of my party is at full health.

      Kiwami is the most average yakuza game, every other game is an 8/10 or better (with 0 and Judgment being 10/10) kiwami is a solid 6.5/10

    The dub is really good. It just feels weird to me when a whole nation of Japanese people speak English. I like the more 'authentic' feel of the Japanese voice acting. But to many it's a preference

    Judgment isn’t exactly a Yakuza game, but I’d suggest it. It just follows the life of a civillian/ex-yakuza MC called Yagami turned detective. Idk why, but the story of it just lured me in so much its insane.

    The whole series is fantastic. It's my favorite series. I even imported the Japanese exclusive releases. Zero, 3, and 5 are my favorites. This may get added once I complete it.
