I have just found that that in the newest version of Notepad for Windows 11, in the "Settings" you have the option that when Notepad opens, to "Start new session and discard unsaved changes" instead of "Continue previous session". So, the problem of numerous tabs and previous versions no longer exists.
Thanks. This is very useful. I was teaching older people to use PCs, and they were very confused with tabs, ending up with having 30 or more tabs open.
yea i dont like the new notepad im taking notes all the time way too used to old version that i can click the red cross and save it or not save it, now its all piling up in tabs many times i end up having the same file open in 10+ tabs and i cant find the original or the one i made changes and need to save
very helpful; new Notepad is unbelievably buggy. I use it a lot and it is becoming unreliable. Kerning between characters changes when pasting (but not when typing). Searching for text jumps you to specific point in the file (not the sought-after location). Also CTRL+SHIFT accidentally switches to right-to-left text several times per day. Rolled out in a hurry by MS. Video is very useful. I will mildly miss the tabs feature, but it basically belongs in the Trash.
All you have to do is change the open with setting to use the old notepad. Right click on the .txt file, hover over Open With -> Select "Choose another app" -> Scroll down on the popup toast and select "Choose an app on your PC" -> Browse for the location of the old Notepad.exe and choose that.
great video sir + i wanted to note about something has to do with copilot i noticed today when i copied a text and accidentally hovered over copilot icon and tiny menu popped up am using 23h2 stable version
In my opinion, the New Notepad is more comfortable than the Old/Legacy of Notepad in Windows 11. Because : - We can do for more than Once to Undo/Redo by clicking "Ctrl + Z/Y". - We can Turn it off without Save it on the New Notepad.
All very well BUT I do not want the new notepad at all.... It keeps opening up every damn txt document in notepad and asks me to save them I have to close notepad manually not just hit the x to close.
I am sure that was a bug, since it refused to close and kept on asking me if I wanted to save files that I had not opened for months. It seemed the problem had been solved in the newest version, as I said in another post.

New notepad is just insane and one good example where Microsoft really messed it up.
Getting Wordpad back would be really appreciated. I don’t use it but once a month, but it’s important for me to have.
Can't stand the new version, so thanks for this.
thanks god for old notepad,i hated these never ending stupid tabs
Thank you! Very straightforward :D
Thanks you !

That is a new feature. I have not received it yet.

Take the first option (delete the new version) and the classic version takes over.

Thx so much for saving a tech's life who cut his teeth in Windows 3.1 (lol)
