For context, Super Sentai is the original franchise which Power Rangers adapts, from the 16th Sentai team and mostly onwards. A good majority of the action scenes in PR are taken from the original series which are licensed along with the costumes to produce PR, with the licensing for adapting a Sentai occurring some time after a it’s series has finished its tv airing in Japan. Although the suits are the same, in most cases PR has it’s own plot different to the Sentai it’ll adapt.
Thanks for the context! 😀
Power Rangers did start in the 90s, but Super Sentai started in the 70s.
1975
@@LegitMan335 Oh I know
@@ShuffleUpandDeal32 good you know
Thank you so set them right
I recommend you both should watch the super sentai openings.
I never would've expected you to do something like this! So awesome! Many people don't actually know that the American Power Rangers derives from the much longer running Japanese Super Sentai. Super Sentai is really incredible. I know it might seem a bit corny when you're watching these henshins... but the shows themselves can get very emotional and even pretty dark at times. You'd be genuinely surprised how entertaining they are! Thanks for doing this one. :)
Our pleasure! We were one of those people who had know idea the American Power Rangers was an adaptation of something that went back so far 😀🤩
And you should visit Super Sentai older brother, Kamen rider. They're basically karate bugman with very drama and darker theme.
Don't forget some have tons of swearing in them
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 recommend bioman too 🤖
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Also for context the shows starting from around 4:30 are the ones that PR were adapted from
1:29 That was how Spiderman transforms as well.
If you were confused by the music in Deka pink and Yellow's henshin, those two specifically have their own "theme song" called "girls in trouble"
😎👍🙂
WELCOME TO THE TOKUSATSU RABBIT HOLE!
The ladies of super sentai have evolved with Japanese trends and sensibilities, but have always emphasized feminine strength. Always somewhat glamorous and very skilled, some more traditional with others most tomboyish, but always invaluable to the defense of our "BLUE PLANET EARTH". Also, STAN LEE actually tried to bring the franchise to America back in the early 80s!
Did not know that about Stan Lee 😀 but not surprised ☺️
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 And if memory serves me right, he proposed Sun Vulcan, the 5th Sentai team.
Stan Lee is partly responsible for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Marvel put money into the 3 Sentai after the Japanese 'Supaidaman' which gave them the option to adapt it. Marvel TV, under Margaret Loesch, tried to dub Sun Vulcan in 1984? & it didn't sell.
Haim Saban tried to adapt Bioman in the late 1980s and ended up selling it to Fox Kids, under the Executive Margaret Loesch - who wanted the light hearted live show to balance the dramatic X-men cartoon.
Stan Lee also tried to get dynamic in the states
Fun fact: Ryusoulger theme is a knighthood theme. Kakuranger’s(aka not alien ranger)leader is white ninja who is also the first female leader in super sentai
Love the fun fact 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 thank you. Being a fan of super sentai for so long so I know some of them
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Also, Shinken Red Kaoru (PR Samurai) is the first ever female Red.
Glad a lot more people are getting into Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. Hope to see more :3
Just scratching the surface so far. Another franchise we were really unfamiliar with so it was cool checking out 🙂
Speaking of toys, there are also difference in the sizes of the original Japanese version and American version of it.
Japanese toys are close to 1:1 sizes it means that the actual toys are close to those that appears on the tv while the American versions are more smaller and most of it doesn't have effects or noises that are heard on the TVs
Like in the Kyouryuuger, their sword's dinosaur mouth actually opens and you can put the Jyuden (the battery like thing that they insert to transform [it also 1:1 and you can push the button to change the colors of the dinosaur]) in it and when you closes the mouth, you can hear "gaburicho!".
Hadn't realized that there was a difference in the toys as well 😯
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 It can't be helped that most people didn't know about it, only who have delved deep into the fanbase have a knowledge of it. The only available in America is the American version of the toy in most general toy stores like Toys 'R Us. You can only buy the Japan version in Japan, order online, or in a store that sells Japanese products, goods, or toys.
You can also see the difference when you have the actual product then compare it to the videos which have a review of the original Japan version of the toy you currently have. There might be also some photos or pics in the net for the said comparison.
Also, while America sells masks to role play the rangers, in Japan, they also sell the actual outfit of a specific character used in their civilian forms. This is really good when you want to cosplay the characters in their civilian forms and attempt to mimic their transform scene or the ending dance sequence of a specific series either in solo or in a group~
In the other 'sibling' tokusatsu, Kamen Riders (Why 'sibling'? Because not only they have the same creator, Kamen Rider is the older one than SS [Super Sentai]) have toys that have different versions of a specific transformation device as a toy (such as deluxe, legend and CSM are just some toy version of the belt/buckle/driver of a KR series [belt/buckle is the actual form and term for the transformation device in Heisei (2000-2009) KR series while drivers is the term used for the belt/buckles starting from the Post Heisei (2009) up until this year/Reiwa era)
In some footage in MMPR S2-S3, the toys were used for the Ultrazord combination.
See how 2 adults got happy they got when "Dino" was mentioned? And we the fandom wonders why Toei keeps making Dinosaur Sentai
8:26 Super Sentai has done a dinosaur theme 4 times (cause it is wildly popular and around the forth time they did it, the franchise was in a ratings slump). Zyuranger (4:39) (recognize the costume? That's Mighty Morphin'), Abaranger (8:16), Kyoryuger (13:32) and Ryusoulger (17:50).
Can't go wrong with dinosaurs and there is no shame in busting them out for ratings 😁
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 they also done Ninja 3 times and cars like 3 or 4 times??
18:28 Lol I keep commenting cause the context is always fascinating. The Kiramagers created a special stone that can do the bare minimum of tasks on the battlefield of any one member at a time. This was handy for when a member was unavailable. The stone was great in a pinch but never perfectly replaced the real thing. This is why there were two Greens on screen here and why the others looking on were wondering if Sena was the real one or not cause there was a slight mix up over the course of this episode.
we appreciate the commenting and helping us understand this more. It's always nice when a community is so inviting to new people and wants to share knowledge to help educate the uninitiated. 😀😊🥳🤗
I reallylike how Kirameger handle the unavailable memeber. I mean 4 of them have professional job that impossible to just drop everything and run off.
Pink is prodigy surgeon, she constantly need to operate.
Blue is famous actor always need on set.
And Green is track elite athletes.
Red is a high school student.
And last one is esports gamer.
Oh no, you just jumped on the Tokusatsu rabbit hole. As much as I want to see more reactions from you guys to this genre especially towards Kamen Rider, I should probably warn you that there might be more people in the future that will send requests for you to watch more of it. I watched few channels getting more request about it and almost nothing else that their own channel almost turned into a Tokusatsu based channel. I'm not saying that you should stop reacting but if we, the fans, overwhelm you with requests and want to continue on having a diverse reaction channel, just say a word. Reacting sometimes or few on it would be enough.
Just continue on what you think is good for this channel. Anyways, love the reaction and hope to see more!
Appreciate that so much. Not everyone gets that. Our other reaction channel for games almost turned into a Mortal Kombat channel early on but we had to fight the temptation to only feature those videos even though they were the most popular. We like having an eclectic mix on the channel. 😊🤗
Super Sentai is what inspired Powers Rangers. There's a Japanese Spider-Man TV series that inspired Super Sentai.
We love that the creators were inspired by Spider-Man. 😊
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Same. Stan Lee even worked with the Japanese folks to make it.
Welcome to the World of Super Sentai! This franchise created in Japan is turning 45 this year (so you can get an idea of how old this franchise is)! I'm Brazilian and I was able to watch four series of this franchise on television (Goggle V, Changeman, Flashman and Maskman) when I was a boy.
😎🤟
This was awesome. And yes, Power Rangers came from Japan in 1975. Right now, they are celebrating their 45th anniversary in Japan right now. Well I can't wait to see more videos.
😎🤟🥳
Agreed herezmikey their is going to be another sentai in 2022 👍
The TL:DR history lesson.
Sentai ran for two seasons. It was created by someone who made a bunch of Japanese Superheroes. Shotaro Ishinomori.
In the second season, JAKQ wasn't doing so well. Around the same time, Marvel was trying to bring American superheroes to Japan. They had a Spider-Man series. It was going to be very accurate to the comics. Then Gundam became super popular and they were like. GIVE SPIDER MAN A GIANT ROBOT!!! So they did. It was amazing and when asked what else they could do with Marvel Properties and Giant robots they were already working on an Avengers show which was very similar to the Sentai show that was about to be canceled. Toei decided to give it one more chance. Turning it into Super Sentai and using the plans they had for the Avengers show... with a giant robot. (That's the show with the Miss America clips). Marvel worked with toei for a few more years.
Around the same time, Stan Lee actually saw big chunks of Sentai and thought it would do amazing in the west. He marketed it to everyone he talked to throughout the 80s. Around the same time, Haim Saban stayed in Japan selling toys and watched a little Sentai as well and knew what to do. He actually made a pilot episode and marketed it as well. Was told it wouldn't work. Until he talked to the head of Fox Kids who worked with Stan Lee in the early 80s. She basically went. Two guys have pushed this show around, I have to make it happen. Thus we got Power Rangers.
If you're into this sort of thing. I recommend watching some Kamen Rider clips. It's Super Sentai's sister show (also created by Ishinomori). They've shared the same hour time slot for the last 22 years now in a block called SUPERHERO TIME.
Kamen Rider is darker and usually focuses on a singular hero without giant robots.
Currently, Sentai is in their 45th year and Kamen Rider is in their 50th year.
Thanks for the quick rundown of the history of this! We loved the “Give Spider-Man a giant robot” 😂 it’s like, how come no one thought of that til then 😀🤩
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 The whole japanese spider-man show is a ride as well. Twenty or so episodes into production someone stole Marveller's (Giant Robot) Sword. Instead of spending a few yen in just making a new sword... they just kept reusing the shots of the robo doing it's finishing move with the sword. Toei ended up doing that for every Sentai robo since. Using dedicated finishing move scenes to save time.
@@Kuchiri it was more than the sword. It was most of the costume.
One mistake there. The sentai that Saban saw was Bioman, which was many years after Battle Fever not, "around the same time." The rest of your facts are correct, as far as I know.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Even better, the Japanese version of Spider-Man was introduced into Marvel comics as part of the Spider-Verse event and has been confirmed for the Spider-Verse movies, so you should be able to see the character in the movies soon!
You might've learned this since this video but you wouldn't recognize the pink from the Sentai after Zyuranger or her teammates because the only thing that we adapted into Power Rangers from Gosei Sentai Dairanger was their 6th ranger Kibaranger (who, incidentally is a really perverted kid in Dairanger while the white ranger was simply a replacement for the green ranger powers)
Thanks for letting us know 😀
A really late correction we also adapted the Dairanger mecha (what we call Zords) into the Mighty morphin season 2 Thunderzords
Super sentai: it started form 1975
Power Rangers started in 1993

That music... That dance..
Dude, it´s samba.. Brazil!!!
And now for an interesting bit of trivia...
As you saw in some of the show compilations, there would be two different girls transforming into the same suit. One of the biggest reasons story-wise is that either the first heroine leaves to go pursue other ventures, or, in the case of Bioman, gets killed off.
Thanks for pointing that out. 😀

"You could make so many toys out of this." BOY! You have no idea

As for the "3-3-5" code you were joking about a bit (lol) each Sentai team gets organized by a different entity or event in canon every year. So I.N.E.T. developed the Digitizers to use that 3-3-5 code for the transformation. Zyuohger (15:57) merely saw the Rangers input their respective roll call numeral into their cube shaped cell phone (Zyuoh-changer) as the first part of the transformation. Finally, the LupinRangers (17:19) (one half of that season's Rangers) would each have a different combination they would spin the dial on their Dial Fighters to in order to transform (0-1-0 for Red, 2-6-0 for Blue and 1-1-6 for Yellow).
In addition the Lupinranger’s number combinations for their dial fighters each having a meaning that pertains to the respective dial fighter.
Thanks for explaining the codes better to us. 😊
Omg how did I not know you guys reacted to Super Sentai! One of my favorite Japanese shows, Lupinranger vs Patranger has to be my favorite sentai!
If you guys want a quick overview of each Sentai series (Up until 2016) you should check out the “Super Hero Getter 2016 version”. It was the ending theme they put for the 40th Sentai series that did a fast roll call of each series’ motifs

The one where they handed her the sword... she was the true boss ranger of that crew in that season. She had been unable to go but by her bloodline she was the heir to be the leader, the Lord of the 'family' of rangers. That's why she was Red Ranger and she had servants at her every whim.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first aired in 1993 & Power Rangers is still on going to this day. There were Power Rangers movies in the 90's and in 2017, there was another Power Rangers film, which was a reboot.
Guess we just lost track with Power Rangers over time. Glad to see it's still kicking 😎🤟
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 I agree.

So, typically with a lot of fans of Power Rangers, as they would get older, they started to move more towards Super Sentai. I'm not speaking for everyone, but when I was younger, I mainly watched Power Rangers because of the fight scenes and the action. But, as I grew older, I began to have a better understanding of story and plot and, while a LOT of Power Rangers seasons (examples being RPM, Jungle Fury, and SPD to name a few) have really good stories, at the time that I began getting older and having better story comprehension was when seasons like Samurai and Megaforce began airing, both of which are seasons that dont have the greatest plots. Sure, they still have the spectacle, but they dont have the character drives that kept me engaged with the story, rather than being like "haha, explosion go boom".
So, I turned to Super Sentai. It had the same fight scenes and visuals, but each season also managed to tell their own very gripping and entertaining stories, and had their own great characters (save for some that we dont really talk about in the community). And the most exciting part was that every season was a fresh start. They all felt wildly different from each other while still keeping those core themes that every Sentai season has. On the other hand, Power Rangers (At least from 2011 to 2018) all kind of had the same vibe, especially since they began splitting each season that would typically be 40 episodes into 2 20 episode long seasons, so we would have the same cast for 2 years in a row. But they all had a diverse cast of 20 somethings that all felt kind of bland, with the exception of the season that aired in 2015, even though the second half of that season kind of lost the charm of some of those characters. Sorry, got off topic there.
But with Super Sentai, you never really know what you're going to get between seasons. The best example of this, in my opinion, is the season that aired in 2016, 2017, and 2018, those being "Zyuohger" (15:57 - 16:28), "Kyuranger" (16:29 - 17:17), and "Lupinranger VS Patoranger" (17:18 - 17:50) respectively. In Zyuohger, the series started with bipedal animals from another dimension crossing over into our dimension to help try and protect the planet from a giant intergalactic gambling ring. While it's strange, it's nothing too out of the ordinary. But then, the next season, in Kyuranger, the entire universe has already been enslaved by the bad guys, and we follow a rag-tag group of resistance fighters trying to free the universe from this oppressive regime. Already a HUGE difference. And then, the next season, Lupinranger vs Patoranger, we get a cops and robbers season with one team trying to steal back some old guy's knick-knacks from interdimensional gangsters, while the police try to arrest them. 3 seasons, aired right after each other, each with wildly different tones.
Meanwhile, with Power Rangers, for almost 8 years, we got "attractive 20-somethings fight the bad guys and learn about teamwork and friendship BUY OUR TOYS. Also, the red rangers is looking for his Dad." I'm not kidding. For 2 seasons in a row, we had the red ranger trying to find his dad. 2 **different** seasons, mind you.
And yet, I still cant help but lean towards Power Rangers as being my preferred show. At least in general. There are seasons of Sentai I would watch over Power Rangers, but because I'm much more familiar with Power Rangers than Sentai, I cant help but have fonder memories with it. I've enjoyed Sentai for almost a decade now, but I've been watching Power Rangers since I was 4. It's the series I'm more familiar with, so I have more of a preference towards it, and when i watch the Sentai season one of my favorite Power Rangers seasons is based on, it doesnt hit right, because I'm more used to the Power Rangers version. I think this goes in line with your "Psychology of the first impression" argument. An example of this would be "Gekiranger" (9:56 - 10:31) and its American adaptation, "Power Rangers Jungle Fury". I grew up with Jungle Fury, and I would probably say it is my favorite season of Power Rangers, so when I tried watching Gekiranger, even though it's a good season in it's own right, it definitely felt like it wasnt right because I was seeing these suits I was familiar with, but it wasnt the characters I was used to. It wasnt done the same way, similar to your example with the Phantom of the Opera. It's the same steak, but cooked differently. Some people like it Medium-Rare, some like it Medium-Well.
...I dont exactly know where I'm going with this comment, its literally 5:30 in the morning as I write this and I havent slept. I hope you can glean SOMETHING from my comment, because, honestly...I sure as hell cant.
Also, as a random request, check out a video of all Super Sentai opening themes. They're all different and amazing in their own rights. Though I'm not sure if that would be a copyright issue, since it would most likely be roughly 45 minutes of music.
Appreciate you going into this and explaining your perspective on each series and why you like on over the other and how that can change as we change. Hope you were eventually able to get to sleep 🤗🙂

Oh this is siiick. I really hope they react to more Kamen Rider/Super Sentai openings, finishers, ect.

Most of them are power rangers-like because super sentai is where power rangers gets all of their footage and suits. For the most part, it’s all adaptation of super sentai. The Sentai concept goes way back into the 70's. Sentai simpley means "Task Force" and started in 1972 with Kagaku Ninja-Tai Gatchaman Anime.
So even the legendary Power Rangers were not "new" at there time. But still awesome. And with new information about some stuff, the lore is kinda dark and serious, also the 2016 reboot movie about them, was really good. Was a giant product placement for some specific dounats but who cares :P

There are a few new comics about the classic Power Rangers from the 90's.. Story about Rita, who was once good and now frustraded and evil, cause "Good Magic" could not save her mother so dark magic was way cooler.
Tommy Oliver aka the Green Ranger (later White also Golden in the TV Series) fused with the White Ranger from an alternative future, were the Rangers lost and Earth is ruled by him and Rita.. pretty dark)
I like to be the green Ranger too :O Dang. The Dragonzord was so awesome ^^ Thanks Beth. Sister in mind.
That comic actually sounds pretty cool with the concept. Also have heard others say that when you really get into the Super Sentai stories, some of them are quite dark despite the appearance, and as you put it, "super cheezy". Find that interesting. 🤔🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 I always say that with a smile on my face, when you see something ridiciouls but having fun with it anyway. They know it is stupid, but the japanse celebrationg this. Embrace it. And thats always the best spirit.
Sure these stories can be really dark sometimes, cause thats what life is. If we lived in a perfect enlightened world, we would never have developed the stories of superheroes.
in The japanese Serie ZyuRanger, Bandora (Rita) turnt from good to Bad , because here son kai Died. So she is more of an Dracig charakter than a pure evil.
The boxes are called Champion Symbols.
Thanks! 😀

If you haven't already I highly recommend trying to find the entirety of Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger (translated as Unofficial Squadron Akibaranger). It's insane in a fun way. It's an unofficial series made by Toei (yeah, try wrapping your head around an unofficial series being made by the company that makes Super Sentai officially) about a trio of people from Akibara, basically Japan's headquarters for all things weeb and similar. The show is basically a giant fourth wall break and pokes fun at all the tropes found in the Sentai series. But the real kicker? The Akibarangers aren't even really fighting, it's all in an imaginary world, meaning from the real world's point of view they look like a bunch of insane people being weird in public. In summary, if you want a Super Sentai series that doesn't take itself too seriously and cranks the satire dial up to a thousand, Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger is for you
Be careful, toei doesnt play with the copyright.
Oh this got flagged immediately so we aren't making any money off the ads on this video. But it's all good 🤗
At least it was white swan and blue swallow cause white swallow probably wouldn't have gone down as well LOL. I remember a lot of these costumes from when they came over to America as power rangers. Loved the power rangers
Lmao 🤣
Loved both in jetman 🎵
They are ALL different DUDE!!
unexpected... but awesome BTW i need to recomend some sentai series... like Gokaiger, Bioman, Jetman Zyuranger and Kakuranger you surely gonna love it
Those are some new ones to add to to our request list 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 i would recommend gorenger from 1975 dragon ranger burai he is geki’s brother from zyuranger i don’t know what you are guys are talking about I am confused 🤖
I remember after discovering Super Sentai, I watched the first episode of Changeman. Holy hell! That was one dark first episode! Also, yes, check out Kamen Rider transformations. And Ultraman.
😎🤟
Kamen rider transformation is Good to check out ☺️
Oh my god.. please tell me you guys gonna react to Kamen Raider and Ultraman stuffs too, that would've been awesome💙
We’ve added those to our request list to check out in future. Lots of requests for Kamen Rider 😊
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 awesome!
If you havent yet you should look into the transformations of super sentais sister show kamen rider, or even the ultrman heroes....they are all tokusatsu whoch is basically live action super hero shows
We haven’t seen it yet. This is our first video in this genre 🙂
This vid was in my recommended. Hadnt seen your channel before. From your uploaded vids, this seems completely different. (Comment written before watching)
After watching. Yea, power rangers is based off of super sentai. Kamen rider and Ultraman are also other series of this same genre. Tokusatsu is how we refer to this genre. Also, power rangers never went away. You just stopped paying attention to it. this year, ultraman is celebrating their 55th aniv., kamen rider their 50th, and super sentai their 45th. Power rangers (not sure the exact year but its inching up to its 30th)
Welcome! Yes this is new to us. We take recommendations from the community on what to watch which opens us up to different franchises and genres that we are unfamiliar with. Broadening our horizons if you will. If you like fun times and eclectic mix of reactions and videos then we hope you check out more of our videos 😊🤗😇🥳
As for the context behind Super Sentai I am sure enough people already told you. But if want a nice sentai series to jump into i say ether the 35th series that's was an anniversary series is the pirate themed sentai Gokaigers or the series that came after it Go-Busters. Or you can keep up with the current series Avataro Sentai Don Brothers (the 46th series)
Thanks for the series rec. pirate themes always work for a good hook 🙂
Respect bro this cool tokusatsu reaction
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Now the only ones that are missing are magine, flint(kinda), haruka and marina (kinda also)
Guys, you seem to forget, this is Super Sentai, not Power Rangers, and while the show you may know may be your thing, the footage, the show, the costumes and whatnot came from Super Sentai, and Super Sentai is currently in its 46th year, going all the way back to 1975....
Maybe a reaction vid to all the theme songs of super sentai. I saw another channel do it and enjoyed their opinions
We can add it to our request list 😇
could be cool if you did more of these and maybe even kamen rider that is the sister series and even older than super sentai
We would’ve thought it was the newer one because everyone seems to be asking for it 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Well to be more accurate Kamen Rider is the older sibling franchise, with both franchises pushing out a new entry each year. Super Sentai is currently celebrating its 45th anniversary with Zenkaiger which is playing off of that anniversary series legacy, while Kamen Rider’s 50th anniversary is currently with Kamen Rider Revice, which isn’t playing the anniversary series card, but still has some references to previous Riders.
Also i think space had n e with an arrow or something on the morpher but ya most of us probably saw that as ej lol
I love your reactions, pls react to more super sentai❤️❤️❤️
Greetings from México
Thanks! 🇲🇽 🤗🥳
Hmm I'm recommending Doors 1 & 2 by "Ferexes" and Doors 3: The finale by Yaasho
These 3 videos were done by a lot of different animators.
Thanks I’ll add it the request list ☺️
