It's so good to see people back in the museum.
I agree!
Such a thrill to watch and hear a unique legacy like the Traub being run and be ridden. This is the true genius of WTT - not just displaying museum pieces behind glass with their owners too afraid of using them. Here they are working, breathing history being cared for and used in the manner for which they were created.
Rode to North Carolina and WTT from Texas, and the Traub was my favorite in the Museum...
The detective work on this is amazing!!!
As someone who is restoring a Thor in Australia I can tell you that the gearbox ( transmission) was made by Thor.
The whole rear end including the seat and seat post is Thor.
It has a 1917 Thor double acting rear brake, so the Traub was made sometime after 1917.
I have provided this info to Wheels through Time but had no reply.
Happy to help with any info .
Sweet! Good clue
I saw a 1916 Thor Lightweight and on eBay and yeah! No rear double acting brake on the 1916 model.
BUT DUDE! The Traub shares the same front curved forks on the 1916 Thor Lightweight.
Later Thor Lightweights appear to have gotten straighter forks.
So the Traub is a wonderfully customized 1916 Thor Lightweight prepared by Traub per spec of request of customer.
The ad brags about the riding height as well.
BUT, big modification from the 1916 Thor was using the motor as a stressed member.
That was all Traub.
Anyhow here’s the info off that ad I saw on eBay for fun.

Between us we'll get this bike worked out yet.
I think..I THINK..I would trust the person that has literal hundreds might be thousands motorcycle goes through his front door, old and mostly rare motorcycle at that within several decades..he has THE motorcycle in hand, and others to compare it to, of course some random bloke from the internet think he is more knowledgeable..
Matt is so genuine.
You can not fake that.
Thank you for continuing the legacy.
Me and my wife where at wheels through time when they were making this video seeing it in person was so excited I recommend going in person and supporting Matt and his team super nice people amazing atmosphere and place to see
❤ Love it Matt!
Thank you!
Also love the "genealogy" research that brings more light (and life) to the Traub.
Fabulous story!
Always like watching the traub. Great story.
This is such a great video, a classic itself.
Excellent video!
A real "Out of Class"! Love it!
Very cool......................... 👍👍👍
Carrying on your Dad's tradition, thank you!
Been there,,,,heard the story several times,,, never gets old. Wow what a machine.
He really knew his stuff. Even the rack was angled up in the rear to help keep cargo put, when ya take off.
That was fantastic! So happy and comforted to see the museum buzzing with lots of people! Matt articulates the history of this bike (all bikes) so well. What a treasure! Can't wait to get there and check this place out!
We need Columbo to unravel this mystery. That would also be the kind of bike he'd ride on. Amazing work!
I just came back from your museum a couple hours ago Matt, and I love it!!! Thanks for the Traub story. It was great!!
I spent most of Thursday there. What a great day. Looking forward to November! Thank everyone.
Amazing story and bike… thank you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Visited this bike last month and this bike is amazing, couldn’t stop looking at it.
The Traub just fascinates me. First I'm blown away that one man designed and built this marvelous machine. Then it's entombed for decades before seeing light of day, then it's in a museum being rightly revered for its advanced design and beautiful construction. I'd totally Cruise the rarest motorcycle in America! Freakin' daily!
AWESOME....Thanks
That's does my heart good to see a masterpiece come to life and educate the next generation of motorcycle enthusiasts.
beautiful bike!
I love it when you start the bikes, then ride em through the shop! I remember seeing Dale do that many times, always thought it was cool.
I really enjoyed this... Thanks for Sharing
Greetings from oregon matt thanks for the passion love it ive put your place on my must see
That is such a cool teens era bike. I think that's the most amazing bike ever built, because there is only 1.
Beautiful thing.
I was there today and was lucky enough to see it run and find out some new news about the bike and meet a decendent of one of the owners
Keystone frame, just like my 1969 Royal Enfield. Neat motorcycle.
I'm glad some one is giving history a new life and home 👍🙏❤
I can’t BELIEVE they started it up!! I’ve always wanted to hear a small engine like that
It's amazing how you explain the bunch of techical things to almost a random crowd of guests (housewives, kids, some people that seem to be randomly walked into the museum), where only a couple of guys are really interested in these technical details, but still are very excited about all of this stuff. Really appreciate it. P.S. I'm not really a guys who likes the ancient stuff, but after watching some videos of WTT I'm starting to get thhe beauty of these old engines and frames. Thanks.
Nice got to hear it run in person a few years ago, but didn't get to hear all the history about it.
Wow.....i remember reading about the discovery of the bike in the wall......very cool that it lives with you now!
Thank You Matt, I enjoy the video, it's just an amazing story.👍♥️🙏🙏🙏
Interesting Vid. Thx. Cool colors.
Truly a wealth of knowledge!
For a second I thought that guy had his hand on Matts shoulder. Kind of creepy!
Wow, Amazing!!!!!!
Best motorcycle history channel on RUclips without exception.
Really nice presentation on the Traub itself and that meticulously assembled "history book". You father's sense of history and thirst for the connectors between the dots is strong in you. Who are you grooming to 'be that man"? You had that crowd from the drop- that many people aren't usually that quiet at the same time unless they are in church! Thank you, Matt, and the "support crew" at Maggie Valley! FR
Well, 5he one old guy had to make his presence known... bit too close to the presenter. Stand back
Thanks for this super-cool video. It’s great to see a video about a brand other than HD.
What a jewel. Too bad the guy didn't believe in himself enough to make it... Great presentation my friend.
great post !!
I happen to share the same last as the bike. Coincidentally I grew up in the area it might have been greated
Nou nou.. I have 1915 Traub in my garage and its a good driver.
Awesome 👍 thanks
They guy wheezing on the lecture has done been wacked up side the head once already.
The lurcher Wants to rubb up on Matt. Thx for wreaking the vid Creepy. Reminds me of sleepy joe
@@MeanOldBastardBikerBob , exactly ! I noticed he disappeared at some point of the video. Matt probably had him thrown out !
@@LuckysMotorcycles TBH, I really doubt that. Maybe a hearing problem, IDK- more likely Matt will take him on a "guided tour"- the old "Wheezer" might also have been a friend of Dale's, too. I think Matt is not only going to keep the museum alive, I think he is going to take the antique motorcycle places his dad never had time to go, IMHO. FR
Absolutely a beautiful bike with a fantastic story also which could of changed history of motorcycle design the engine as a stress member as part of the frame thanks for sharing this bikes story & history that you’ve discovered of the year’s amazing..👍🏻 💕🇺🇸
I was a paramedic in Chicago. I had to take a class on the numbering system, it’s very simple. BUT, some suburbs fallow the system, some don’t, reason being is those suburbs are older and didn’t want to change.
Interesting.
That's a crazy story. There's gotta be someone out there with a story about an eccentric great uncle who built his own motorcycle in the garage. Is that something they do often at the museum, bring out a bike and talk through the history of it before starting it up?
that dude that cant social distance
That's one of those, What if Bikes.
This Traub, just read a short article few months ago, Feb, 2022, about finding this bike behind a wall and the mystery surround it.
Biggest mystery was why a bike built so well, and obviously a great competitor to other bikes in the same time period, why, why, why did the guy only build one and stop ???
Why did he not present it, market it, make a few more, or at least take orders for it ???? What happened ? Where's Geraldo ??, lol !!!
Got my sub
The original person said that they stole it was the true story. It was stolen by the guy next door and the Traub living in the house across where the bike came from.
The motorcycle is priceless
Wow, fantastic videos. Is this the "Real America" still? Looks like a great area of your country. Reminds me of us mob, the Aussies. We hear so much negativity about you mob, but you all look normal to me. Keep up the good work.
I almost wonder if like many inventors thru time, if a larger company paid him to shelf his invention! Through out history there have been game changer inventions that either disappear or bought out by a larger company! Even documented cases of inventors disappearing mysteriously! Or threatened if they couldn’t be bought!
I thought a brown bike anh but strangely enough it kinda makes it look all leather I like it !
Aye the traub is mint
Might be the first coffin tank
That bike sounds like a rolls Royce of it's time
amazing , is any of the motor from other manufacturers?
Is the sign, that is available with raffle bike package, available separately? I already have my tickets but I want that sign.
Pretty cool that Steve Mcqueen owned it for a bit .
Makes you wonder if he hid it from Indian and Harley so they couldn’t see his design, he might have tried to manufacture it and failed
Where can I get some of that 16 cent anti knock gas?
Love the guy in blue shirt :)
It looks like somebody put him back in the crowd towards the end.
He couldn't get it produced, the powers that were, would had him killed. Definitely state of the starving art.
Beautiful bike, the man was a genius.
I always say that we live at the Benefit of a few Geniiouses.. Thomas Edison .. Nocholas Tesla's Inventions were subdued.. .. Henry Ford.. Eli Whitney .. and many others who were Geniouses in what they did .. Even Eric Buell ..
So some guy built a better Motorcycle in his Garage.. than the Big Motorcycle Companies in the Same era.. The Doble Brothers.. too ..
No electric vehicle is ever going to topp that sound!!
Matt do you think that he was paid to hid his bike by one of the bigger companies? As it was more advanced than them?
Show ¡¡!!!
Chicago pride baby!
I saw that guy come close to Matt like uh oh. Then I saw him lean on a sign and he disappeared. They must of had Rip take him to the train station. Saying the Troub is cool does not give it justice unless Fonzi said it 👍🏽
I'm no expert but that looks like an Excelsior front fork unit.
what was wrong with the engine that dale had to repair it
It makes a lot of sense. The guy had no wife or children, and when they heard this, half the audience left. It was probably the same in his lifetime, so he couldn't be bothered with people and kept his invention under wraps.
Richard Traub must have met Nikola Tesla for cup of tea to make such a wonderful machine!
Rarest motorcycle in the world price unknown but if you have the cash on hand anything is for sale because this guy traded a $700 bike for it
Why would he hide it? If he was ahead of the game maybe he got tired of other builders stopping by and looking for ideas, like maybe he felt his designs were being ripped off or something. I couldn't possibly know of course, just a wild guess from a true nobody.
He was married to his motorcycle!
❤️

German engineer!!!
My grandfather left me on of these in his will. I cant start it. Are they diesel or petrol ? Is it 24 volt?
mon dieu
16 cents a gallon gas 😐
What's the guy with the bandage doing @3:52, looks like he's playing pocket billiards to me.
KA CHUNG KA CHUNG!
Wonderful video! However you are mispronouncing the name, I know because my name is Traub. When you spoke the Traut name, that is the correct pronunciation, just add a b.
That guy in the cap thinks he is the only one in the museum.... there is always one chump
Is that original paint? haha if you know the story.
You can get your Traub Package in this month's raffle promotion!
