When you simplify and find 8 of 32 is 4, and 8 of 80 is 10, you ended up with 4 over 10.

I know how she got it. She simplified 32/80 and turned it into 4/10.
To simplify a fraction, you divide both the numerator and denominator by the same number. So, you can divide 32 by 8 and it's equal to 4, and then divide 80 by 8 and that's equal to 10, and that's how she got 4/10.
She probably didn't explain how she got 4/10 because the video is too short and she probably didn't have time to explain it, but I hope this helps

It's just one way to get to the answer. basically the person just did it long way for formula x=32/80 equal to 40 percent. the person went one step more by making the fraction smaller. not to difficult to comprehend but still which ever is easier for the person to find the answer then just go with it.

Multiply by 2,3,4 … until you get the number asked
8*4 =32.
Add a 0 to the number you multiplied the 10%.
=40.
Works for any number.

There is a guy of South Asian heritage doing math videos. Two videos before this he did a question like this, different, numbers. I paused this video, did it the way he did and I got the right answer in no time. No need for x and all that. He makes it so much simpler.
He said, any number after the word, "of", write it with the division line above. Then write the the other above it. So, it would like:

When doing it in your head, 10% is 8, and i know that 8 goes into 32, four times. 10% four times =40%. Makes it easy to do when you don't have a phone or paper.

It's from the 32/80. She took the least common denominator from both numbers and then turned into a fraction.
What is denominator?
Simplifying the 32/80 because you should always simplify if your still learning gets your skills up and it makes the end result make more sense

That the Zero in 80 will council one zero on 100 you then take now 32 divided by 8 will give you 4 you then now take 4 multiply by 10 that will give you 40%

In India 🇮🇳we used to calculate it much easier( not complicated like this) we simply solve this 32/80 × 100 = 40% 😊

@@cgedan6819 You need the 100 to multiply the answer, for example : 32 ÷ 80 = .4 or .40 X 100 whatever answer you get you still have to multiply it to a hundred. and you will get the answer

I mean we consider 0 as min and hundred as max value in almost all cases(just look at your battery percentage of your phones or laptop as example). Now consider the answer in this question ie: 4/10 which equals to 0.4 . The reason we multiply this value with hundred is bcz, we need the percentage value to be in between 0 and 100. So if you want the percentage value to be in between 0 and 1 , you need not multiply 0.4 with anything bcz 0.4 itself is the answer as 0.4 lies in between 0 and 1. Now if you want the value to be in between 0 and 10, multiply 0.4 with 10 which equals to 4, and 4 lies in between 0 and 10. We only use 100 for all cases bcz, that's the way we've been doing it for a long time and suddenly changing it would bring a lot of confusion.
this is a simple ratio problem; where, IS over OF is EQUAL to X/100. or 32/80 = X/100 ==> X = 40%
I would set up an equation with 32/80 = x/100. Solving this equation gives us 80x = 32 * 100, which means x = 3200/80 = 40. This is the most intuitive way to see that the ratios need to be the same.
Simpler... 1% of 80 is 0.8 so divide 0.8 into 32... there's your percentage for 80 which equals 40%

Sometimes looking at the answer choices helps dramatically. If we multiply 80 x 0.40 or 40% which is an answer choice we get 32. I love process of elimination. Removing unreasonable answers. 😊

@@thepistolguy859 Good luck to you! I got my GED a few years back and remember how confusing math was. I want to explain why they say it the “hard way”. There’s a lot of comments saying there’s a simple way to do it such as 32/80 * 100. Which is true and it does work. They aren’t however explaining why this works and they’re missing the important details about it. Shortcuts like this aren’t good practice since you’re missing a lot of important work, unfortunately teachers on here tend to show you the right way to do it but fall flat on explaining. An important thing about this video is you need to know what a variable or x is when it comes to math. A variable x is an input. For example we know that 40% of 80 is 32. Why? Plug it in for x. 80(0.4) = 32 -> 32=32. When you’re solving for x, you’re essentially figuring out what the input value would be in order to equal your number. 80(?) = 32 -> (?) =32/80 -> (0.4) = 32/80. This is how they got the first part of their simplified version, 32 divided by 80. 80x = 32 -> x = 32/80.
In order to fully understand this, let’s say we want to find out how 2 = 1 for some reason. Well we know that’s not true, but how can make an equation true? Let’s add an input variable and call it x.
2x = 1. This is the same as saying 2 * x = 1. In algebra we need to isolate the variable to solve. So, we need to divide both sides of the equation to get x by itself.
2x/2 = 1/2 -> x = 1/2.
Now let’s verify if we did it right. Substitute the answer for x.
2(1/2) = 1 -> 1 = 1 ✅
Here’s a fun thought experiment. If I had a 7 mm string, how many times larger would it have to be in order for me to have a 32mm string? Build your own equation and don’t do it in your head, understand how x works.
Might be a bit confusing, but the more you learn the more you realize it’s a lot more simple than you’d think. I was horrendous at math, I mean absolutely terrible at it. Failed out and got my GED. Now I’m a second year CS student doing calc 2. It may seem like they’re doing it the “hard way” but they’re doing it for a reason! Oversimplified versions that only show the end result such as 32/80*100 does not teach you math, it tells you how to memorize and never do math of your own. Understand how to derive these equations and where it comes from, if you do, math will feel very natural!

Simpler solution would be:
10℅ of 80 would be 8.
So 50℅ of 80 would be its half which is 40.
If we subtract 50℅-10℅ of 80 it would be 32 (40℅)
x • 80 = 32
x = 32/80
x = 40
to find x, transfer 80 to the right so we only have x on the left. divide 32 by 80 to get the value of x. Thus you have 40 which is the answer.
I tend to go at this kind of problem like this:
In algebraic terms, this story problem can be expressed as: N X 80 = 32 (I dislike using "X" for unknown quantities since it can be confused with the multiplication symbol)
To flip the problem around so the unknown is at the end (easier generally to process), call it: 32 divided by 80 = N
So, N = .4, or 40 percent.
I had similar thought regarding the variable "X". That's why I tend to use the "*" for multiplication. It would just be better to use a different variable, but convention.
How about 32/80 = 0.4
Move the decimal two places to the right = 40.0

Then, According to question
(X/100)×80=32
X= (32×100)/80
X= 40%
32/80*100%=40%

The problem with math is they don’t teach that the word itself is a symbol or variable and this is what makes math complicated.

As 6th grader I just immediately divide it and then just times the left overs. Example: (80÷8)×(32÷8)=10×4 equal 40 it's wrong because I can't randomly just make a percent appear so yeah

Bro how I do it is that I put it like 32/80 then i try to find 100 because percentage is 100/100, so I divide 80 and 32 by 4 which will be 8/20. Now I just multiply by 5 and there we go, 40/100= 40%

We only need to know the 10 percent of a number then we can easily find answer for example
