    From what I heard, several content creators found out that they were making a lot of commissions through the affiliate program and then suddenly their commissions were a lot less. Come to find out that Honey was trading the content creator's discount code for their own, thereby screwing the content creator who has advertised the product(s) either by a short commercial or by links in their channels. They're basically using a loophole in the system. They know what they are doing. The content creator and their listeners have no idea that the money is going to Honey instead of the content creator. That's a deceptive practice that should not be allowed.

      Not only content creators lost commissions through affiliate links but they could’ve advertised honey to their audience and then never got commissions from any of the people who signed up again.

      Yeah it’s really worth it for them and select clients. I get it, they did the work to make it happen but actual victims getting a pittance just doesn’t feel right.

    • @neruneri
      @neruneri 12 часов назад +5

      @@SewFloSewing I get it, but what's the alternative? The other side of the coin isn't just that the lawyers put in the work, it's also more importantly that they fronted the risk. If it fails, where is the money to pay all of these people coming from? The answer is that either the lawfirm has to take the risk, or the client has to take the risk.

      Very good point. Same with any game apps that claim you'll get tons of money. No. And I use a few of them. One I played over a few years and earned enough to get a few Starbucks gift cards, works for me cuz I love playing games and found some great ones through it. The one I use now gets me coins to read my favorite comics. But what they get is our data and ads and a lot of purchase to get further in the games (which I never spend real money on a game). But it's a slow process that takes some time, not instant $100.

    Influencers often promote products they don’t genuinely use or like, misleading unsuspecting consumers into making purchases solely to earn a commission. Meanwhile, many of these companies offer larger discounts directly to consumers than the ones promoted by influencers. The whole system is absurd. It’s time to implement safeguards to prevent influencers from boosting their affiliate commissions by pushing "must-have" products they’ve never used and wouldn’t consider using, all for a paycheck.

    • @SpydersByte
      @SpydersByte 9 часов назад +1

      Thats ridiculous, how do you expect full time creators to make a living then? Thats how the very channel youre watching makes a living. Your solution would put basically all big channels out of business and then because of that, youtube itself. Do you really have such a weak will that youll go purchase something you dont need just because you saw a sponsored ad? Thats a *you* problem not a sponsorship problem. Hell, you dont even need to listen to the ad in the first place, just use the right arrow key to skip ahead 5 seconds, push it a couple times and then youre done, back to the actual video and youll barely even see what the ad is for let alone feel the need to go out and buy it.
      What youre saying is like asking TV channels to not run commercials because you cant help buying the stuff you see in them. Commercials are the only reason those TV channels can afford to exist in the first place, how are they gonna make any money to produce shows and pay workers if all they do is give you 24/7 free content? And how spoiled are you that you must buy everything you see and cant stand listening to an ad for 20 seconds?

    The issue is that honey automatically applies the various coupons in its database before you even get a chance to type in the creators code. But, the Savvy Consumer will just override that if the creator’s coupon is better than the ones that honey has it in its database.

      Writing in the promo code is different than the affiliate link cookies or whatever telling the company that that creater sent you. Honey aside, you don’t necessarily need to use any code for the creater to get credit, it’s their incentive for you to click their link. Honey is taking credit for the sale, not just deciding what coupon to apply.

    • @CarolineBoardman
      @CarolineBoardman 15 часов назад

      @ Sounds like there’s really not a solution other than to stop using honey. I think that’ll be a struggle for me and other people who use it because it really does save money. I understand that supposedly they cut deals with vendors to reduce the amount of the discount code but I run a capital one program that is similar to Honey at the same time and they almost always come up with the identical codes.

    In this case, Paypal needs to be stopped from doing these practices so this is good. However, seems like the people that actually get the money ( that should be going to the people in the class) are the lawyers. Many of us have been part of a "class" before from various & we receive letters or emails to go to a website to register as part of that class in order to qualify for part of a settlement. It's never the amount you lost or paid to that specify entity. However the lawyers get hundreds of millions. Class action lawsuits are for the lawyers to get $$$

    • @elizabeth-betsyjohnson7195
      @elizabeth-betsyjohnson7195 17 часов назад

      To be clear I'm not suggesting that class action lawsuits are all bad. Also sometimes it's the state that gets the money when they sue on behalf of the class. This case is fascinating I will definitely follow. Thanks for the video

    • @SpydersByte
      @SpydersByte 9 часов назад +1

      the lawyers are the ones doing all the work, if they hadnt put the class together and put the *case* together then you wouldnt get ANYTHING, let alone your fair share. Of course theyre gonna take a percentage of it for doing all the work. All *you* have to do is respond and say "yes please give me money", what they have to do is literally everything else, and whether the case wins or not depends on them not on you. Its not like they take *all* the money and its not like you would be getting anything at all without them so I fail to see what the huge issue here is. If lawyers were out there taking 80% of the settlement then Id understand but its typically like 30% and considering the entire case and whether it succeeds or not is entirely on their shoulders I think thats relatively fair. Not to mention the fact that those large settlements pay so well is part of what drives people to become lawyers and what drives them to file these suits, which ultimately benefits the clients in the end. If there was no incentive to do all the work then *no one* would be getting paid and the corporations would be walking all over us, *far* more than they already do.

    • @SpydersByte
      @SpydersByte 9 часов назад

      @@elizabeth-betsyjohnson7195 39:36 also, as he explains here, you dont *have* to be part of the class. If you dont like what youre gonna get then you can opt out and sue them on your own.

    My son had nagged me for a few years about installing Honey. "Mr. Beast does it. It's free. And you spend a lot of money, so why not?" (😡Damn kids. 😂) I just kept saying nah, don't need it. I saw MegaLag's vid exposing the scam within a few hours of it being dropped. I was completely floored. I had to immediately call my "computer-nerd business-owner" husband and show him (surprised he hadn't seen it already -- love it when I'm able to one-up him tech wise 😉). I was horrifically fascinated; it's so infuriating from all angles. MegaLag did an amazing job with his expose. Been waiting to see how this falls out legally, so thanks for keeping it on the radar.

    My big question is: how do the affected creators PROVE that their subscribers have Honey installed?

    • @SpydersByte
      @SpydersByte 10 часов назад

      I dont see why that would matter, if Honey is switching out their sponsor and attribution codes and substituting them with worse deals just so that Honey can get the attribution then theyre still robbing the creators. Obviously if a creator's tag *was* going to be used then that must be someone from that creator's audience that has Honey installed, otherwise how would they have got that creator code in the first place? Thats the whole point of the codes afterall, to identify whose audience the purchaser is from. I think the issue will be proving that a creator code was entered first and then switched, but theyll probably be able to find that information in Honey's system once they subpoena them

    • @camillasaietz4856
      @camillasaietz4856 4 часа назад

      @SpydersByte if their viewers, who used their codes/link, did not have Honey installed then there would be no harm. I appreciate that Honey did what they did regardless, but in court that will need to be proven.

      @SpydersByte 3 часа назад

      @ it doesnt matter who had honey installed or what portion of someone's audience did, as long as the data shows that honey was replacing creator codes with their own codes even when there was no additional savings then theyre in trouble. What I heard: Both the customer and the content creator are getting screwed. When Honey takes on the discount code, it apparently knocks out the content creator's discount code. So Honey gets all the commission while the content creator gets none for those sells. The customer may or may not get a better deal or any deal at all and that is how the customer gets screwed. They think they are getting an extra discount but what they are really doing is by using the Honey Browser is keeping the content creator from getting the money. And they don't know that. That's where all the deception lies.

    Here are points to consider: the Honey browser extensions, affiliate marketing attribution, and alleged affiliate link "hijacking." ---- Honey could not get paid "a" commission without an agreement. 2) If a merchant voluntarily enters a special affiliate marketing agreement with Honey to enhance their sales processes. Does the merchant have a duty to tell their other affiliates that Honey is also competing for the last click and win "the" commissions? 3) Could the Honey/PayPal affiliate marketing agreement be special? 4) For the Honey extension, doing what it does without being blocked by the MAJOR Brands is unthinkable... IMHO, Honey has to have authorization. 5) Could Honey/PayPal be paid a lower commission rate? 6) The merchant is the one who sets the attribution model (first-click, Linear Attribution, Time Decay Attribution, Position-Based Attribution, Last-click) 7) What if multi-touch attribution was the industry standard?

      the giant issue comes when honey doesnt have codes. if you intereact with the extension in any way, even to close the pop up telling you that there are no codes, Honey still takes credit for the sale and gets the affiliate commission. It's not just people using the best codes, it's honey doing nothing and taking commission from people who do

      Honey has saved me money more than any other service like it. However, I don’t like ripping people off, so I wonder if the solution is to let honey run its algorithm and then write the code down and go back into the website and check out with that code Without using Honey. That’s a lot of work but may be a temporary solution until Honey starts doing things properly. For you techies out there, will that work?

      Capital 1 does give you a % back, usually small- 5%, that you can use to buy gift cards.

      @@amandalouise3597 Thanks. They also have a service similar to Honey that scans your open cart and suggests discount codes.

    About 10 yrs ago I got my $500 investment back through a class action suit (I believe it was called Lilly-- a drone designer). A product that got stuck in design for a few years that tried to go bankrupt. TG for that class action suit. I didn't have to put up a dime, just prove my investment receipt and wait. I believe it took better of a year. Fantastic. Got all my money back! 🍾🥂❣️

      It would maybe help if you start by watching Megalag's video on Honey so that you understand how he investigated Honey, and why he believes it's a scam... Maybe it will explain why these RUclips lawyers jumped on the case....
