- I asked you lot on instagram and RUclips, for any questions you have for the British people. Well you lot flooded my inbox with questions for the British people. I have returned to St Albans to see what they answer with.

As a German i must say, I love Vinegar on Fish and Chips.
Having tried vinegar on chips as a German, I really enjoyed it when visiting Britain. Hearing about it, it seems really strange, but once you try it it's really good.
I like it too. But only a few drops
I hate it, but my boyfrind loves it. Were both German.
There aren't even vinegar flavored crisps available in Germany, or just since recent years.
Although Germans love vinegar, but just for pickles, vegetables or maybe aspic.

Milk in tea is a tradition which stems from early tea drinking.. At the time Tea was drunk from small, thin-walled bone china cups which would crack if boiling or near boiling water was poured straight in, cold milk was put in the cup first to reduce the thermal shock to the thin bone-china, thereby reducing the risk of cracking your expensive fine bone-china cups..
That's interesting! And puts a stop to the quandary: add milk first or last 😉
And it's not like milk is unknown in India either.
If I'm in a trench, facing insurmountable odds, I'd rather have 2 Germans alongside than 10 French. Regardless of past *disagreements " we are a very similar people
German born (this time ;)) but British Soul at heart :) : What I love about the British (i.e. I mainly refer to English)
1) I love that their Royalty is actually pretty much GERMAN influenced in their pedigree ;)
2) I love their sense of humour...They do not take themselves sooo seriously...Also they have a kind of social custom of interacting with one another, which I call "play on/with words" that everyone engages in in pubs and elsewhere just FOR FUN !
Something that needed to be learned in the last 3 dedades in Germany....to PLAY with our language...just for FUN and PUNs...without any other purpose... ;)
3) I love that in England being UNIQUE in one's lifestyle is seen more as LOVEABLE rather than WRONG ,
as in Germany anything outside A NORM is often NOT NORMal and therefore frowned upon or at least questioned first rather than enjoyed or instantaneously openly welcomed.
Mind you . Point 2 and 3 have changed drastically and to the better in Germany for the past 30 years...as lots of different cultures came in to the country in recent years...which I personally regard as being a blessing...
We - as a GLOBAL Family - can embrace our differences..and laugh about them or learn from them...then integrate the good and let go of the not so good..
I love your YT Chanel..it helps and serves the purpose of understanding and respecting each other everywhere.
And you do this with so much heart and FUN...its gorgeous !
It also helps to dissolve stereotypes of EVERY Culture that do not serve Peace and Co-op and Harmony amongst our wonderful Family of Mankind. And it raises AWARENESS in everyone..so that people can see..that we are all HUMAN..first...

Why do people always think that the "roots" of tea are in India? It was the British who TOOK tea to India once we finally got some plants from the Chinese (which took a war to acheive) !
Took a war to achieve? We were trading tea with china 200 years before the opium war.
So I guess this happened (tea plants introduced to India to grow) was the period when Hong Kong was a British colony/territory around the Opium wars period after 1842 onwards?

As a German who has eaten British sausages before, I can wholeheartedly understand the horror of the kids that the very friendly gentleman in black talked about. xD Maybe we should not just open the supply for Waldmeister ice cream, but also for good sausages.

I bought some British sausages containing apples from Aldi in London and brought some to a barbecue in Germany and interestingly they loved them. I’m tbh not a fan of British sausages ;)

There are several dodgy sausages out there but some are amazing
I agree: good-quality British sausages are superb, and have a really interesting mix of flavours and textures. Constant experimentation. The Germans reading this will be scandalised, but I'm afraid I find German sausages rather bland in flavour and texture - too finely minced, pure pork but no other flavourings. OK, we probably only see a poor selection in UK shops, but I have been to Fests in Munich and Mainz, and the sausages were - meh.
German bread is however excellent, especially rye breads which are hard to find in the UK. German bakers have seven year apprenticeships, British ones (in supermarkets) five minutes. But at least our breads are nothing like as horrible as American, the worst in the world with all that added corn syrup! Nearly always inedible, though I once had a good loaf from a US farmers' market . . .
So, so! The English "are the worst to show love to other people..." I doubt it...

When you covered the point about adding milk to tea, this came about because the clay cups people used would sometimes crack because of the temperature of the water, adding milk cooled it down.
The Royal family speaks French and German, Charles and Philip could speak fluent German.

In Deutschland ist es normal, dass du Dinge mit Waldmeistergeschmack kaufen kannst, aber ich kenne es wirklich nur hier.
Milk in tea> Because: When we made china it was rubbish and hot water would shatter it, we added milk so that the temperature was lowered and thus the cup did not shatter. Apparently.

So true that speaking and listening to a language is important to learn it. Not necessarily living there, but using the language.

As a German, I've always found it rather perplexing to fathom the existence of a monarchy in the 21st century. The notion of kings and queens strikes me as remarkably archaic, to be honest. Nonetheless, one must concede that the British monarchy stands out as a rare example of regal institutions that uphold human rights, especially when juxtaposed with certain sandy parts of the world that might be described as somewhat backwards, shall we say. 😉

The original reason for milk in tea dates back to when we started importing it in the 18th Century.
The tea was so bitter it needed milk to make it drinkable. Simple as and it's stuck.

I was just wondering about something else regarding the Queen. When going to the pictures as a child in Oz, the film would not start right away. First the Queen usually mounted on a horse would appear on the screen and the audience had to stand up. I never saw any reason to do so. Was or is that a usual thing at british cinemas as well? Furthermore, I don't think Germans "love" the Queen or other British royals. Actually, people neither love nor hate them. They just don't care. Only a lot of older ladies like reading about all sorts of royal gossip in those tabloid type magazines.
I’ve never had that happen in the cinemas I go to, but some other British cinemas might be different
@@dashadowgirl Well, that was the usual thing in the 60ies in Australia. I have no idea how it is or was in Britain. I've only visited England twice for a few weeks, and have only been confronted with "British" culture and the way it was lived in Australia a long time ago. So I'm rather curious about how it is or was in Britain. Even at the Monday assemblies at school in Australia the Australian and British Flag were hissed and we had to sing "God save the Queen" as well as the Australian national anthem in those days, which was actually a beautifiul poem by a lady named Dorothea Mackellar describing "the beauties and the terrors" of the Australian continent. In contrast to that, the nationalist British anthem worshipping a royal. I'd just like to understand.
@@dashadowgirl Okay, thanks. I've never been to a cinema in Britain, so I was just curious. I don't even know if it's still done in Australia these days as my family left the country a few decades ago.
@magmalin In the UK, never experienced singing the national anthem in the cinema, and that's at any time from the 70s, and not does my mum.
In terms of the monarchy, it is a constitutional monarchy. The monarchs power, which is very, very limited, ensures a government does not become tyrannical. The government and Parliament ensures a monarch does not abuse their power. The people elect their government. The monarch is kept in such comfort that they are above politics, as it does not affect the quality of their lifestyle. In exchange the monarch performs a uniting role, providing public service that is not politically aligned, performing a soft diplomatic role, such as hosting leaders of other countries, where relationships can be encouraged on the basis of humanity as opposed to political affiliation of the moment, and promotes charitable causes, as well as their legal constitutional role. It is a mistake to think of it as 'celebrity' and 'gossip'. The monarch has a constitutional responsibity.
I've had vinegar on chips before. It's fine. Even on the thing the americans call chips. That works as well. I even put a squeeze of lemon in my mashed potatoes. A bit of acidity goes really well with potatoes.
I mean, lemon on fish is already a standard. So why not put it over the side as well.
And british sausage rolls are nothing like german Wurstbrötchen. Both are good, but they are entirely different things.

Milk in British tea is partly a chemical process: it softens the harshness of our traditionally dark, deep-flavoured tea blends from India, Sri Lanka and East Africa, especially when brewed with hard British water. The milk also helps to emulsify the fat in fried food like chips or an English or Irish breakfast, and makes the meal less overwhelming. I can understand however the objections to milk in light Chinese teas or Earl Grey: the milk smothers the flavour and the tea looks like thin dishwater. To understand milk in tea, the Germans need to use the right sort of tea!
It's a psychological thing too: hot milky tea is a very comforting, relaxing drink, soft on the palate and stomach, not a caffeine jolt like an espresso. We add a lot of milk to our coffee and chocolate for similar reasons. We Brits - and the Irish are connoisseurs too - have developed a great understanding of the restorative power of milky tea - a reflective "cuppa" alone or to go with a chat with a friend - to solve all life's problems.
Finally milky tea goes well with its quintessential British companion: the chocolate digestive biscuit. Or a hobnob, or a custard cream, or whatever takes your fancy out of the myriad of options in British supermarkets. And for those who dunk (dip) their biscuits, that would be disgusting in non-milky tea or coffee. The milk is crucial. It needs to be proper milk too, none of your UHT rubbish.
My message is simple.
I soused my ten year old halb Hamburg, half London nephew's chips open pleased in the proper amount of vinegar.
He looked horrified.
Eat them kidder.

Question you should ask from British:
Why do they mostly visit places when going on Holiday to Spain with full on Brits? Literally every show I've seen on British Telly when I was living there they visited places where everyone was British... How would they ever learn a language if they go there to hang out with their own kind? :D
You could say the same of Germans: try going to Elba in Italy - you can't move for Germans, goodness knows why, but Brits are not the only folk who flock together.
@@matchmade44 Well I don't know personally any Germans, but the British and German language comes from Germanic language family. They minght have very similar mindset. My brother worked in Germany he told me they are as cold as the Brits and way more intolerant towards migrants. (We are Slovakians).

Too many older British people are much too closed minded. The old guy who couldnt speak other languages is a typical example and this attitude applies to things like the Internet and technology too. It's this attitude that makes you not able to learn it and not the task itself. I'm hardly young,late 50s,but the attitudes of others my age and older is way too lazy and insular.

He is going on and on and says nothing. After the Romans left the Saxon and Anglo moved in, both are from Germany, Saxon is today lowersaxonie and the Anglo are from Schleswig-Holstein. English language is actually old Germanic language. The name England is coming from Angloland. The real British left are Wales. The Anglo-Saxon are Germans.
When I have done my DNA test and it is coming up wit 22% British, I am not excepting that because of my Anglo ancestors moved over there. That's from my Vaters site

German here. I have always had a special love for the British. Out of all the other peoples of the world, I feel closest to them. And it is true. I love the royal family and I wish we still had ours.

Having eaten Bauernfruhstuck (scrambled eggs with bacon and mixed vegetables) I can honestly say that German breakfasts are Hitler's revenge for losing the war.

Like the moment the lovely lady starts talking about the german heritage of the british royals even though you can not eliminate your roots.
Had a lot of fun watching even though not the typical british humor, but Weltmeister Eiscreme or world champ ice cream must been quite a long time ago.
Come over for a beer or 2 and enjoy the nice evenings of the season cause right now we have the best season to visit, just 3 days a months with rain, mostly in the 20s, I mean 20 to 28° celsius and of cause before the huge holidays waves that will start soon from June to August cause the german countries have different summer holidays in schools to reduce the pressure on the tourism (prices) if all germans would wanna start their holidays on the same 6 weeks.
Baked beans does not really seem to be a real british habit more an imported one. Always had asked myself where all these beans had been coming from.
Germany got a lot of a support in the early post war period from the US but my mother and grandmother never tallked much about beans but a lot of other stuff they loved.
Keep on with your videos and sharing cultural aspects and differences cause it helps to understand even tiny parts a lot better like the bean question.
