About Steven Universe:
The Crystal Gems are a team of magical beings who are the self-appointed guardians of the universe. Half-human, half-Gem hero Steven is the "little brother" of the group. Actually the butterflies represents something
The butterfly represents problems the person has: guilt, depression, regret, etc.
The butterflies are harmless, but they mean a lot to the person, ruby yells with her singular butterfly (problem) when sapphire is drowning in them
Acknowledging the butterflies aren’t harmful either, letting them go whenever they’re ready is the best way to work problems out
The little "Here Comes A Thought" at the start 😭😊
This show is beautiful.
It covers:
• Depression (displayed at the end, with many of steven’s out-of-body experiences and traumatic memories coming back to haunt him)
• Anxiety (many songs and scenes, [especially in the last few episodes of the final season] depict anxiety and stress.)
• Sexuality (many songs and characters represent strong, and kind members of the LGBTQ+ community)
• Confidence (this very song is a prime example of confidence faltering, which could lead to anxious or self-deprecating thoughts)
• Stress in parenthood (one song, and scene relating to how Greg, [who is a single parent] has to take care of Steven.)
This is actually a truly sad scene, and when I was younger and enjoyed this show at face value, I never really appreciated how much of a work of art this show was, and am currently about to start it back over, this time picking apart every detail.
This song covers anxiety in a new and beautiful way, I love how they *jam pack* (pun intended) life-lessons into a kids show, while planting the seeds for the kids to grow up to be kind and accept individuals.
One of my favorite examples is in the song ‘Stronger Than You’
Where garnet’s fusion obviously represents a lesbian/gay relationship, and how they push contrast on the seemingly happy relationship by bringing that one evil yellow gem, who is put to represent modern-day beliefs of primarily religious individuals, that push away and shame being yourself, or accepting that you may be lesbian or gay. I love how the song ‘Love like you’ (this song resonates with me because it displays what I’m going through at the moment) where everybody around you is falling in love, and you’re being ‘left behind’ in some way, you’ll do anything to just catch up with everybody else.
Apologies to any religious individuals who may be offended at my prior statements, as that was not the intent. I was merely stating what I perceive to be fact, as I’d be told I’m going to go to hell for maybe wanting to dress like a girl because it makes me genuinely happy. Not anti-religion, because the truth is that religion is a beautiful thing. Just don’t bother people if they wanna kiss boys, please. I didn’t want to forget all this information, so I just sorta coughed it all up here. Thanks for reading ❤
I also love the neurodivergent nature of the gems. They don’t understand earth and it feels very neurodivergent. You can headcanon any gem and I find that great. My favourite ones to headcanon as autistic are Peridot and Pearl. Pearl being disgusted by things which aren’t clean and Peridot being well peridot. I love it.
The amount of things Steven universe can easily represent like disability in the way the gems are presented, to LGBTQ+, to different races and so SO much more.

Okay this might be a coincidence but this kind of foreshadows what happens to Steven in Steven Universe future with thoughts getting out of control because in this scene it only focuses on Connie but Steven doesn't even get to throw in his own feelings and thoughts of what he was going through

A long while ago, Garnet's character design showed me that it's important to balance oneself to keep yourself from... Breaking down, much like how she unfuses when both halves of her are significantly disturbed or out of sync. I do this by both hating myself for what I do wrong, and also showing myself love for what I do right. In a way, my psyche is akin to a fusion of self-love and self-hate. The two combine to create mental equilibrium. Ego's not too inflated or too fragile. Just a thought.
One of the best songs from this wonderful show.

This song actually means so much to me. So do all of the songs in this show, but this song takes me to another level. One night, I was tucking my little sister into bed and she asked me to sing this for her. I agreed and once I was done, she was fast asleep. Rebecca Sugar is a masterful composer. This is one of the few songs for me, that calms my mind and relieves anxiety. There's some magic. The melody, instruments and singing put together create this lovely harmony.
