Sometime when I need a reset in the middle of the day I take a shower and make myself a cup of coffee. I feel like the shower washes away the bad part of the day. It gives me sometime to myself, to relax. And the coffee gives me energy to get going again.

Practicing gratitude first thing in the morning and throughout the day has impacted my life in a great way. I just started making it a point to wake up grateful and to give time to thinking about what I have to be grateful for. It allows less time for negative thoughts and leaves me feeling blessed.

One small change that helped me incredibly came from looking for solutions for health issues. Getting enough sleep had been a major problem for me & taken a heavy toll over decades.
So I had the simple idea that each evening, to consider what time I needed to wake up the next day, then set my alarm to “head to bed” an hour before I had to be asleep - in order to be sure I got 8 full hours of sleep that night.
This has helped me immensely and Ive formed a really good habit of paying attention to my body’s Sleep needs. Sometimes I can tell I need extra rest or maybe im late and have less time available that day- but I care and take the trouble to make up for it and pay better attention to my needs now. Its amazing just how much this simple act has improved my health. Adequate rest is major. Especially long term.
Thanks Kallie for all you do. What an inspiring help you are. 👌🏼🔆

First thing I do in the morning is make my bed, brush my teeth, wash my face, Then go to the kitchen squeeze half a lemon in 8 oz of water. Drink that , then make a cup of coffee. I’m going to do what you recommended about waiting about an hour after you wake up for coffee !

Wow Kallie, thank you so much for mentioning adding salt into the water! I had the same experience and over-hydrated, washed out all the minerals out of my body, felt thirsty all the time as well, and urinated like 20+ a day! I took a hair tissue mineral test that showed I was very low on many key minerals like potassium and sodium! I now try adding salt to my water as well and am taking Shilajit for mineral support!

I have changed small small habits in my life since 4 months. I am getting up early morning around 4am. So, from 4am to 6am it's me time. So, in this two hours I am meditating, reading my goal, reading books, learning new words, and giving half an hour to workout. This gives me a lot of pleasure and day by day I am being self confident. But I will say, I have to be more organized and prioritize my work . It will be over time.

In regards to the water thing, I’ve also read that it’s important to sip water throughout the day instead of drinking large amounts in a short period of time. And when they say “drink water”, you also have to account for foods containing water, juice, and things like tea and coffee. Fresh fruit, veggies, soups and jello count as fluid intake.

      @barbarafairbanks4578 3 года назад +13

@@lisablomquist240 some of the symptoms she describes, like increased thirst & frequent urination can be signs of diabetes, or even pre-diabetes. Many people have pre-diabetes, but are
completely unaware they are headed toward full-blown diabetes.
Doctors won't declare a patient to be diabetic until certain serum blood markers reach the tipping point in lab tests. - when A1C levels are above 5.7 (5.7 is considered 'normal', but I would not be happy with a 5.7 A1C marker, bc this 'normal' baseline is compared to the rest of the U.S population and that's not exactly a demography I'd like my A1C level to be compated to as a 'normal' range -
let's say 5.7 is considered 'normal' in the U. S., but 5.7 is, IMO, not exactly 'optimal') -
Anyhow, let's say an individual is climbing toward an A1C range of over 5.7, but is below 6.5- this is considered pre-diabetes in the U.S.
An A1C range of 5.7 -6.4 is considered pre-diabetes. It's not considered a 'disease' state because it's not 'diabetes',
      per se (yet).
But a 6.5 or above A1C level is considered to be type II diabetes.
Unfortunately, the pre-diabetic condition can be building up to that tipping point of a 6.5 A1C level for years due to undetected metabolic changes in the body, and this is the state known as 'pre-diabetic.'
The issue is that cells (fat cells primarily) are becoming more and more insulin resistant, and glucose cannot enter these cells. This is why diabetes & pre-diabetes is accompanied by fatigue, because glucose cannot enter fat cells where it's needed for energy.. Insulin is rising & is trying to drive glucose into the cells where it is needed for energy, but because the cells have become insulin resistant, the glucose has nowhere to go. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood. The body then tries to rid the blood of excess glucose, which results in the symptom of frequent urination, i.e., the body struggling to expell excess serum glucose. I think the added salt in the water might suppress frequent urination bc sodium helps cells to retain water. Possibly that's why the frequent urination & thirst has been abated(?) with salt being added to the drinking water? Idk...that part is just a guess on my part, so take it with a grain of salt 😄
But the prediabetes/diabetes & A1C ranges I quoted are fact.

My little habit that changed my life was radically paring down my wardrobe. I follow the Project 333 approach to clothes and wear mostly a "uniform" each season. No fast fashion. Classics with coordinating colors. I have my tops together and the bottoms together all hanging in my closet. Each day I grab the first top, then the first bottom that coordinates with it. If it's chilly, I'll grab a cardigan or some other layer. It's very freeing and saves so much time and money to not be chasing fashion trends. No one has ever noticed I have a small wardrobe.

I’ve adapted a lot of these as well. For anyone who doesn’t like the taste of salt in the water you can always just put a pinch in your mouth and swallow with water before you start a glass of water. Milk with a splash of maple syrup and pinch of salt helps me sleep better and keeps my glycogen stores full all night so I don’t wake up running on cortisol. A ten minute afternoon power tidy or a 5x5 (5 rooms, 5 minutes each) along with a quick bathroom swipe each morning has helped keep my house so much cleaner! And the clean sink at night is amazing. It is crazy how doing a few cleaning routines really can make a huge difference. I also start a load of laundry every morning.

Not feeling bad about being nocturnal and using my productivity according to my body has helped me a lot. I'd love to be more of a morning person but I wasn't built that way and it actually helps a lot with my career, which is a busier in the evening field anyway.

    • @barbarafairbanks4578
      @barbarafairbanks4578 3 года назад

micahah7214 - completely agree. Not everyone is cut out to be a 'morning person' - actually I believe it's only about 9% of the population (U.S.) that are born with that predisposed early morning chronotype...the rest of us 'struggle.' (I heard this quoted by a sleep specialist, and I THINK I have that percentage correct, but not entirely sure).
It is a pretty low percentage, however.
I think there are about 4 different genetic chronotypes - each with their own genetic determinors of sleep/arousal cycles & sleep 'needs' - and each with their own genetic advantages/disadvantages compared to other chronotypes.
I can somewhat unhappily make myself into a 'morning person' by observing the usual boring advice of sleep experts - early to bed early to rise, or at least at the same boring bedtime & the same boring time to arise - plus getting the required number of Lux, i.e. outdoor light into my retinas before 9a.m. for the required length of time- then again outdoors around sunset for Lux in the red range. This practice helps alot to reset the suppression of melatonin in the a.m., & encourage its release in the evening.
So, yah, I can do that for a time and turn myself into a bored & boring 'morning person'...but it's not my natural state and I often happily 'fall off the early bird wagon'😂.
So, don't feel bad that you like to keep late hours - there are some great advantages to being an 'owl' rather than a 'lark' We are supposed to be more creative and artistic types, more open, and flexible than the early morning set - but they have good points that we are challenged with...none of which I care about, I guess, bc I don't recall what they are....other than that they 'get the worm' - not that I've ever aspired to having that advantage over anyone, anyway😅

I get a little depressed if I stay up way late and sleep really late all the time because miss the sunlight 🙂

    Alertness 😊.
    1) Making the bed every morning as I get up. It starts my day off with a sense of calm and order.
    2) Creating and using a budget. Creates a sense of abundance and predictability.
    3) Take garbage and recycling out little by little throughout the week. That way I don't forget to get it out on the eve of trash pick-up day, or have to get up at midnight to take it out, because that's when I think of it.
    4) Put new groceries at the back of the fridge, freezer and pantry. Never have to look to see if I'm pulling out the food nearest it's expiration date.
    5) Try to do a load of laundry a day. That way, I don't get behind.
    6) Turn the water off while I'm brushing teeth, washing face, washing hands, washing glasses, hand washing and rinsing dishes, washing the car, etc. Makes me happy when the water bill comes, plus saves resources.
    7) buy a lot of things at once if I know I use it a lot. Keeps me from running to the store because I ran out of something.
This is all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.
Very interesting video...and concept. Thanks for sharing! ❤

My kids did this too.. I explained that starting with a clean slate made my morning more smooth and it was a NEED of mine. They didn't have to understand it but counters were to be wiped down and minimally pots, pans and any dishes would need to be put up.or I'd be "closing" the kitchen after I'd cleaned... OR .. Waking them when I awoke with the expectation that they could do it then.

I keep a swell bottle filled with water on my nightstand. When I wake up in the middle of the night and am thirsty, I grab the bottle, take a sip, and go back to sleep. Before I would go to the kitchen for drink (and since I was there, I’d snack) and then I would be wide awake after. It also ensures that I finish my water in the morning because I drink it when I first wake up.

I cook 4 weeks worth of school lunches and freeze them.
I simply take them out to thaw before I go to bed and they're ready to heat and put into a food thermos in the morning before school.
Never do I have to worry about what I'll send for lunch which is so much less stressful.

When I wake up for work I filled the cup and drink at least 2 cups of it, cause I am thirsty from sleeping, before I bush my teeth. Then the rest of it I drink with my Vitamins. So that is 4 cups already that I consumed. Then the other 4 I drink with my dinner. Arlene

I learned that if I don't like the taste of the water, then I won't drink it.
I use water filters in my kitchen to improve the taste and quality of my water.
Some people like water cold, I like water room temperature. One of my friends always drinks water warm. Some people like lemon or mint leaves in their water.
When I was 17 I realized that I could go all day without drinking water!
Sometimes I would think to drink water and then I'd tell myself, oh... I'm rushing out the door, I'll drink when I get back and so on. Eventually, I got into the habit of drinking whenever I thought about it. No delaying. I also make sure that there is water next to me all the time, so it's there when I need it.
