Even playing a poor team, it is still difficult when their entire team is loaded up front on defence. I loved watching the Matilidas skill in this game, even without the 10 goals. They're very very fit and extremely talented.

Half the team are WSL players, another third are European league. They absolutely need to hit it that hard in regular games, and certainly at the Olympics they're going to need to go that hard.

@@enesmoes6666 Not a dumb comment at all. I think they mean that by hitting it that hard on the laces is risky for most players as it can easily fly off in any direction. Not for Mary. She did the same risky thing in the france penalty shoot-out which really showed how good and calm she is under pressure.

there is a difference between technique and just smashing a ball. ...fowlers technique and timing was exquisite hence it generated so much power without much energy expended by her. ..you might see it as her hitting it hard but its perfect technique

@@andrewkemp1882 Ah, so you're one of those. That would explain your comments. Another man strangely loitering around a women's team, whilst seemingly determined to criticise the players at every turn.
You are clearly struggling with reading comprehension if you can't understand the concept of somebody doing something 'like Messi.' It does not mean 'exactly the same.' It means that the person in question was really reminded of Messi's play when watching events on the pitch. That is their prerogative and their opinion.
You could have just scrolled by in silence and moved on with your life, leaving this person to their opinion. But like all sexist men you feel you have to tell us your thoughts on why we are wrong and you are incapable of leaving us alone to enjoy the sport we like in peace without constantly trying to tear it to pieces.
People who watch women's and men's football sometimes make comparisons between players. That is normal. The fact that it clearly triggered you to such an extent shows how sexist you are. Why is your opinion that Messi is 'the greatest footballer ever' somehow more valid than the person's above that a player reminded them of Messi? Classic narcissism of the misogynist.
Perhaps think about not watching the Matildas - judging by your comments they don't seem to be for you and the rest of us would really like to support them in peace without your unnecessarily derogatory remarks.

Even though they cruised I think some of the players didn't play themselves into the squad for Paris.
Six or seven of the goals were basically goalmouth scrambles, with Rasso's & Fowler's having decent build up & good finishes.
Stronger teams will defend better against the header back across the goal mouth so crosses put through by Fowler, Carpenter & co. need to be scored from.

    • @stewartjrl

Sometimes it's actually hard to avoid goalmouth scrambles when the opposition is considerably below standard and thus creating huge confusion amongst themselves in the goalmouth.

You spend your time in the comments above ripping the game and the players to pieces and talking about how badly they played, yet somehow now they are 'a team' and all is wonderful, because you can pursue your agenda against Sam Kerr. You cannot possibly judge the togetherness of a group of players based on a couple of games, where you apparently believed they have not played well. Something really doesn't add up there.
Sam is a key member of the team and an extremely popular leader. As soon as she is back, Heyman will sadly be gone. She knows that she is a temporary replacement and age is not on her side. Perhaps try to to remove your obvious off-field bias before you make such silly assertions about.

Usual misery who can't resist their offering patronising and insulting opinion. Same old story really. The Uzkebistani team are not professionals or full-time players. They are low-ranked for a reason. They all work or study full-time and fit in a few training sessions around their commitments. They don't have any players in Europe, America or Australia - almost all of them play in Uzbekistan. They are extremely limited resources and very few staff. There isn't even a goalkeeper coach and they certainly don't have the opportunity to spend ages working on their defence.
But of course people like you seem to think it's fair to discuss amateur teams like this as if they are Premier League sides. The players try their best and they deserve the chance to appear for their national team. They do what they can in a very difficult environment, where women's sports have been suppressed for years. Your comment is really unfair and they deserve better than a load of sneering insults. Nobody wants to lose by such a large scoreline, but most of these Uzbekistani players aren't even used to playing in front of large crowds. It's a different world for them compared to the Matildas.

I’ve got nothing against the Uzbek girls, but they shouldn’t have made it to the play-offs in the first place. I was in Tashkent when they hosted the group with Japan, Vietnam and India. They made it to the play-offs as the best second-placed team, but that only happened because Japan beat them “only” 2-0, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes, and then spending the remaining 70 minutes passing the ball around, without registering a single attempt, while the Uzbek girls didn’t commit a single foul, as they just watched the Japanese pass the ball around. Disgusting…
“Why would the Japanese do that?”, you may be wondering. Let me answer that for you; Uzbekistan’s coach was a Japanese lady, who had been sent to Uzbekistan from the Japanese FA, as part of an agreement the two FAs had signed to improve the women’s game in the country. Shameful… Not the agreement between the two FAs, but the way they chose to “improve the women’s game in the country”.
I’m old enough to remember West Germany vs Austria in 1982’s World Cup in Spain, that… infamous match, in which the European neighbors “arranged” things between them, so as to get Algeria eliminated from their group. That Uzbekistan vs Japan was the worst similar case I’ve seen since 1982. I tried to notify the FAs of the teams that competed in the other two groups, that affected them directly, but… nothing. If the same thing had happened in men’s qualifiers of a big event, it would have been a scandal about which the whole world would be talking. But...

No. Kerr is a glory hunter selling Rexona, while her body breaks down and she suffers more and more injuries. Heyman is still going strong well into her 30s and does the simple things well - like scoring from close range. Kerr often misses the simple, close chances.

@@andrewkemp1882 Interesting. Looks like I\ was on the money about your off-field bias towards Sam Kerr. Bit pathetic mate. Sam is not a 'glory-hunter' in any way - she already has her glory. She has won numerous trophies with Chelsea and has won countless individual awards. You clearly don't watch much football if you don't know how talented Sam is and what a great finisher she is on the pitch. She is known for it in the WSL, where she has scored some goals that people still talk about seasons later. She is relied upon to perform in big games and very often does.
Time to get over your issue with Kerr and start judging the football only. At the moment you're blinded by your bitterness. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a player partnering with a brand - loads of them do it and I don't blame them, given that salaries are much lower than in the men's game. Bizarre thing to get worked up over. To say her body is 'breaking down' is frankly hilarious. She's had an ACL injury mate - in case you've missed the memo, they are everywhere in the women's game and affect players of all ages. Injuries are very common in football after all.
Michelle Heyman has also suffered from countless injuries in the past. She didn't play for months after seriously injuring her foot and ankle. She isn't invincible, but again you're blinded by your bias.

@@andrewkemp1882 There's always one misery determined to ruin it for everybody. The match was not in any way 'an embarrassment' - that is absurd. It was a resounding victory. I'm sorry that the opponent did not adhere to your personal specifications, but the rules stipulate that Australia must play the Asian qualifiers in accordance with their membership of the federation to proceed. Unfortunately there are a number of lower-ranked teams within this federation from countries where women's sports have historically been marginalised, ignored and under-funded. Women's football was banned officially and unofficially in many of these countries for a long time. Players from countries like Uzbekistan are not full-time professionals from top clubs - most work or study full-time and fit in a couple of training sessions a week around their commitments. They are not paid. There are no tailored fitness plans or scheduled gym sessions. Staff are minimal and most still don't even have a goalkeeper coach. The Uzbekistani team do not have a single player signed to a club in Europe, the US or Australia. They all play in Uzbekistan or Turkey. That is just the reality. They rarely play in front of large crowds and the environment in this game must have been really strange and intimidating for them.Yet they still always give everything on the field, even when they lose and lose badly. They deserve a lot better than your sneering attitude, which neglects to take into account any of the factors above. There is a legitimate argument to be made over qualification for these tournaments and whether low-ranked opponents should be weeded out in some way, but these teams also deserve to have their chance on the big stage and dream of making it to major tournaments, even if it seems unlikely. If games like this aren't to your liking, the other qualifiers like the Nation's League featured some very high quality games, although it does rather feel like you can't just enjoy a game for what it is and must instead pick everything to pieces.
I hardly think you need to rue 'missed chances' in a match with this scoreline. The fact that they are creating chances is the important thing. Your comments about Gorry are absurd - she is a key part of the midfield and dictates the play. You obviously don't know very much about football if you can't see that. She is an incredibly consistent player and I'm not sure that anyone really cares about a few incidents of lost possession - show me a player who doesn't lose possession during a game at some point. No idea what your issue is with Kennedy, but she is a stalwart at Man City and a key player for the Matildas for a reason.
