    just a tip…unless you are washing an extremely dirty or smelly load of wash, no need for 3 pods. I use only 1 on large loads. sometimes i also add a cup of white vinegar. especially for towels. my laundry is always fresh and clean. too much soap actually does more harm than good. it’s also a ploy to get you to run out faster, more money for Tide.

    Speed Queen washers have the safety switch on the lid to keep people (especially children) from reaching into the washer, with it running. I used to have a Kenmore made by Whirlpool, that required the lid shut for the spin cycle only. I had a US Hotpoint made by GE, that would fill with the lid open, but had to be closed to wash and spin. I've used front loaders since 1999, and back then, it was Frigidaire and Maytag Neptune for American front loaders, and Maytag Neptune was the first front loader without a window on it. That was only the 1999 and 2000 models. 2001 to 2005 or 2006 models were made by Samsung.
    Anyway, next time you use a top loader, for the softener dispenser, measure out using the cap, and you're supposed to dilute the rest of the way, up to the lower rim. That's to keep the softener from building up residue, since it's super concentrated.

    • @HooverLux

      +davenwin1973 That’s good advice, I will certainly do that next time.

  • @Blurain727
    @Blurain727 3 года назад +2

    Yeah that is a big machine, BUT compared to most washers in America it's small and they also don't spin as fast as European machines and American HE machines. Max RPM on this machine is 710 RPM. Washers in America back then were like this, it was mostly top loaders, That paddle stick thing in the middle is called the agitator. That dryer like most dryers in America is a vented machine. Not condenser or a heat pump. Very few dryers in America have a heat pump.

    Great choice!! It's the best you can get today, should give you lots of years of good service. Our dryer is the gas model. Awesome that your dryer got the gray drum baffles, ours are white. I like how the washer hoses are nice and high. Great accessibility, should it be needed in the future.
    Your question about the dryer being condenser, does that mean it has a steam function? If so, nope. No steam for this dryer, but ya really won't need it much. Don't worry about the timer counting down during fill, after 3 or 4 minutes, it will stop until the fill is complete. Bypassing the lid switch, if you wan't to, isn't too hard to do, there should be some videos on that.
    Also, if ya use Second Rinse, it would be best to put the softener in when it fills for the first rinse.
    Side note, cool accent :D

      A condenser dryer is more like a tumbler with an air conditioning condenser. They rely less on heat and mostly on dehumidification to dry the clothing. They're more common overseas than they are here.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 лет назад +1

      +Sharkie626 as I was drying the clothes, I noticed steam outside and realised the outlet is plumbed into the outside wall. Our dryer back home condenses the water into a tank you have to remove and empty, or it can be plumbed directly into the waste water. As these were the appliances in our friends house I don’t want to modify anything, but if they were mine, I certainly would 😂😂😂😂😂😍

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 лет назад +1

      +Bruce Solomon They’re very popular in the UK because most laundry equipment is in the kitchen and people don’t like drilling holes in the brick walls or running big long pipes through the kitchen. We have limited ways in our homes over here.

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626 7 лет назад +2

    well, Speed Queen makes the best topload washers, at least through 2017, but Whirlpool likely makes the best dryers what with their moisture sensors and accurate temperature setting (I hear speed queen dryers tend to use mostly high heat no matter what they are set to) correct me if I am wrong.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 лет назад

      I was a bit worried about it, even though it has a sensor. I have a BOSCH self cleaning condenser A+++ dryer at home and I can trust that with silk and extreme delicates, but I isn’t have any issues with the Speed Queen dryer, although I’d be hesitant with delicates 😬

  • @LlyleHunter
    @LlyleHunter 7 лет назад +1

    These as most American dryers are, is a convection dryer. It works like a convection oven in that it's a heating coil with a convection fan blower.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 лет назад

      +Bruce Solomon shame it was not a condenser? Do they do this type as a condenser?

    • @LlyleHunter
      @LlyleHunter 7 лет назад +1

      There are just a few condenser machines available on the American market. Bosch, Miele, Asko and Electrolux's compact machines are available with condenser dryers and some machines that are combination washer/dryers like LG offer them. Mostly we have convection dryers as the finish in about a third the cycle time.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 лет назад +2

      +Bruce Solomon That’s true about the short finishing time, but the one I have at home is A++++++ energy efficient, so I use it all the time.

    • @davenwin1973
      @davenwin1973 7 лет назад +1

      I never thought of our clothes dryers as convection dryers. I only thought of them as venting dryers. In colder climates, you can place special filter on the end of the vent, and use the dryer to humidify your home, but only on electric dryers. You can't do that with gas dryers, unless you want carbon monoxide in your home.

    You can buy Ariel pods in the UK in those Tide like containers now too, if you haven't seen them already. :)

      +Daniel Oldham No I haven’t noticed tbh. But nice to have the Tide one to take home and use. 😂

    • @davenwin1973
      @davenwin1973 7 лет назад +1

      If I'm not mistaken, I believe Tide and Aerial are the same product. Companies market their products under different names. Tide in Puerto Rico is called Ace. The Mexican version of Aerial to me smells like Tide with bleach (color safe bleach).

    Speed Queen is the Kirby of washers. I have the front loader thirteen years now without a hiccup

    • @Bunkysworkshop
      @Bunkysworkshop 7 лет назад +2

      Bruce Solomon Hi Bruce, We had looked at the front loader but for some reason after just having a GE front loader and it taking a dive I was afraid of going for another one. The GE only made it ten years and didn't clean very well. How does the speed queen do?

    • @LlyleHunter
      @LlyleHunter 7 лет назад +1

      Impeccably. The same is true of my new Electrolux (my washer upstairs), Maytags and Whirlpool machines (which I've had and would buy again.). I had a GE in my garage for washing rags and it only lasted three years. GE makes a terrific range (best in the mainstream industry) but their repair records and performance in laundry epuiptment are among the worst on the market since 1996 when they discontinued the FilterFlo machines that they made since 1957.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 лет назад +1

      +Bruce Solomon That’s a shame as they were such a well lived well built lasting brand.

    The dryer "delicate" setting was not for that big/heavy load! The "delicate" setting is for very light-weight laundry. The "regular" setting is what should have been chosen with the higher heat temperature.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  6 лет назад +1

      Probably, but with the stuff I put in I didn’t want to risk it, unfamiliarity with the machine and the such.

      HooverLux... we recently purchased that same SQ (series-8) dryer. I understand the trial & error of getting used to a new touch-pad dryer, I'm doing that myself. I can say that we are very pleased with this SQ touch-pad w/d set!

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  6 лет назад

      I really did like using it, just not very energy efficient unfortunately

    • @websurfin9575
      @websurfin9575 6 лет назад +2

      I don't care about energy-efficient w/d's. I like CLEAN laundry & these 2017 model SQ w/d's really get dirty clothes very clean! The 2018 SQ washers are totally redesigned & 100% worthless! The washing-action is a farce!!

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  6 лет назад

      Sorry, I think you mis understood. The new energy efficient washing machine for 2018 is absolutely rubbish, the energy I mean is with the drier only lol.

    OMG we used this outdated washingmachines in the sixties. Most of the dutch households are using frontloaders, mostly German machines like Miele, AEG, Siemens, Bauknecht etc. Advantage of a frontloader is that you can stack them with a dryer.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  3 года назад +1

    The Speed Queen 2018 model washers are NOTHING like this washer....they've been totally redesigned & the laundry does NOT pull down! Plus other major design changes that have literally RUINED the Speed Queen washer & it's once great name! TERRIBLE!!

    • @HooverLux

      Here on RUclips watch the Speed Queen 2018 washer vids, hard to believe SQ will now go the way of the Maytag company when it used to be located in Newton, Iowa.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  6 лет назад +1

      It is such a shame. I’ve seen some vids on the differences and it’s like they are going backwards nor forwards, just to save a buck and reduce energy consumption. It is going the way of maytag and many many other brands.

    • @websurfin9575

      100% true, it's a shame!

    • @umajunkcollector
      @umajunkcollector 6 лет назад +1

      I call the 2018 the SLOW QUEEN, that's the big difference, not as fast as the transmission models. It's still made very well. Since the motor changes direction of the agitator, it's slower. If SQ changed the pulley size, it can be faster. It still beats all other brands, especially the Whirlpool crap.
