If you have ever thought about moving to Nevada and are considering buying a home, this video is for you.
If you enjoy these videos I would love to hear about it. Most of these videos are made to help people who are thinking about relocating, looking for real estate, or just wanting to learn about the United States. We look at the best and worst cities, states, towns, and neighborhoods in the United States. But, most of the time focus on the negative side of locations. If you only want some happy positive information about a city, town, or state, I would suggest looking up local mortgage and real estate companies or maybe the locations website. They are trying to sell you something so it will be nothing but sunshine, rainbows and a bunch of smoke up your skirt. They won't tell you about crime, poverty, bail bondsmen, or insurance you'll need because of natural disasters. I will. And I will try and make it entertaining.

I lived in Vegas for a year. The locals are really friendly. It was the happiest year of my life. Just felt very free. Lots of things to do. City doesn’t sleep.
I am in the Suburbs and only go to the strip when friends are visiting. It is an awesome place to live. The nature, outdoor activities, low cost of living, high quality of life, entertainment and great food as well as local people are all amazing. Vegas is a great town. I completely disagree with your review.

Mia 823 vegas is a really nice place to move you can get such a amazing house out here compared to what you would find in new york lots of houses are built new out here or you can get a entire new house built in like 2 months which is pretty sick . i personally like living in las vegas it remind me of long island with palm treees and in the middle of the desert. if your planning on retiring here you should. it’s way cheaper here then New york. you will start to miss the beaches tho!😪
Nevada has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country! You just have to be a real outdoors person to appreciate it. The Nevada outback is not for soft people.

Let me tell you something, I love Nevada. I love the desert, you’ll never see more beautiful sunsets anywhere else in my opinion. Ironically one of the things I love the most is that... IT NEVER RAINS!! I’m not the type to check the weather so it’s good to know no matter when you decide to go out, it’ll always be the same way, hot, sunny, with the occasionally windy day or cloudy day. It’s great it really is, forget about your picnic getting ruined because it’s raining and you didn’t check the weather. Another thing it’s in the middle of beautiful states, California, Utah, Arizona. Personally I’m an outdoors guy and those are great places to camp, fish, and possibly hunt. It’s really great here. If u ain’t a sissy and adapt to the heat I think you can really learn to love it.

Let's analyze your 10 reasons one by one. As a person who was raised and lived in Californian (for 28 years) and has now lived in Nevada for 36 years (mainly Reno area), I consider myself well educated on the subject. The first thing that you need to do is to separate Las Vegas from the rest of the state because, except for no or low state taxes, it has almost nothing in common with the rest of the state. #10, no rain. You corrected yourself when you said that the Reno area does get rain and snow and so does the rest of the state north of a line from Gardnerville to the Utah Border. Everything south is bone dry. You spoke about this problem for those who like gardening. Did you ever hear of irrigation? Nevada grows the best alfalfa in the US, produces the most white and red onions, and has a major potato growing area in the northern part of the state. We have great success with fruit orchards and home gardens that thrive with irrigation even though there is little rain. #9. Health Care. Again, you corrected yourself when you said that this problem is mainly in the rural areas as the Reno-Tahoe and Las Vegas areas have great hospitals, doctors and good healthcare in general. But even in the rural areas and smaller towns you need you cannot generalize. The areas south of Reno (Carson City south to Gardnerville and the Lake Tahoe area) and even some smaller towns, like Winnemucca (pop. 7,800) has a great hospital. #8. Bad for women. It depends where in the socioeconomic scale you are as a woman. I have worked with numerous women and those in the middle class and higher are all doing well. #7. Stereotypes. That is mostly all in Las Vegas and many of those people are visitors, not residents. #6. Not a good place to be married. Most of the bad marriages and quick divorces are in the Las Vegas area and are from visitors who went there to get married and made a big mistake. All the people I know have been happily married for a long time, like me. #5. Bad place to retire. Actually, by many accounts and other You Tube videos, Nevada is rated as one of the best states to retire because of low taxes, low cost of living, etc. #4. It is not for families. Again, you need to separate Las Vegas from the rest of the state. My friends and relatives that live in Las Vegas have all had problems in raising children in the Las Vegas area. That is absolutely not true in the Northern part of the state as I know from personal experience in raising my children here and they raising their children here with great success. #3. Education. You are correct in this area. My wife is a teacher here and complains about the education system here. If you pick the right areas to live in, and the right schools in those areas, you will be OK. The Las Vegas and rural area are the main problems in this area. #2. Nothing here. You did make an exception for Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe but there are other great parts of the state to see if you know where to look, like Elko County and the Ruby Mountains and Lamoille Canyon, Great Basin National Park near Ely, desert areas if you enjoy desert sports, and great hunting for deer, elk, antelope, and upland birds in the Northern part of the state. #1 People. I am glad that you qualified this and said that is was the VISITORS, and not the residents, who are weird. I think that the people in Northern Nevada are really great Americans.
My Cousin and most of his LA City Fireman and LA Policeman that are now retired have moved to Northern NV everywhere like Reno, Carson City and Gardnerville with one in Mendon. They love it there. My Cousin took an RV trip for two years across the USA trying to find the best place to retire, and he chose Gardnerville NV. I too am retired and am looking to sell my house from LA County and move up there. My too kids are now RN's with two degree's and plan on moving up there as well....I Ski, and Lake Tahoe is what ... a thirty minute drive, crazy good...!!!! The only negative i've ever heard was the Water, or lack there of, with battles and Politics about it... I'm not sure what the deal is, but that was the only negative...!!!
I like your list. Sounds more accurate. Top public schools in northern Nevada are in the southwestern part of Reno - West Plumb-Cashill Boulevard neighborhood.

I just moved to Nevada in November. Aside from finding out the unemployment system here is irrevocably broken (was laid off during the shutdown, spent 78 days at home, went back to work last week, and STILL haven't been able to get through to unemployment.. filed online, was directed to call them, and get nothing but busy signals) I love it here. Love the lack of rain & humidity. The people here are really nice. The views of the mountains I have are breathtaking. Moving out here is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Retiring in Clark County has some amazing advantages; no income tax, warmer winters, ZERO premium medicare plans, outdoor recreation, (boating, fishing, hiking) and a striking distance to so many weekend get-a-ways (LA beaches, Utah national parks, grand canyon). I guess I should make my own video to show that the advantages out weigh the disadvantages for my age group.

Moved to vegas from Chicago and I love it. All it’s crazy and wackiness and I don’t go to the strip too much. It’s an excellent and underrated place to start a business and really in many sectors , I think it’s the next future mega city. Within 10 years Nevada will be up there with NYC and LA

I’m a transplant and been living here in Las Vegas for 6 years now. You hit the nail on the head with every reason not to move here. On the other hand there are so many reasons someone should. It’s all about perspective and what’s really important to the individual.

Nevada is actually a very beautiful state. Road trips are fun especially in the North because the state has over 50,000 wild mustangs roaming this area. Lake Tahoe is also arguably the most beautiful place in the U.S.

Reno snows way more than i expected. Also Reno and Carson are waaaaayyyyyy more green than i ever thought. I guess the snow and truckee river that passes down the middle helps. Great hidden secret for sure. Sadly the Reno secret is getting out hence all the bay area transplants buying up homes here.
Reno's playground is lake Tahoe so it's much different than Vegas where its playground....is the casinos and treeless lake mead.

Reno checking in. Can confirm that both healthcare (especially mental health) and education are lacking big time. Drivers are also terrible. But the Sierras are our backdrop so it's not all bad.

We have lived in Colorado, California, Washington, Texas and now Nevada (Vegas).. and I can attest to the fact that Vegas has the whole package.. as long as you are not financially dependent on tourism). No rain.. means lots of sunshine.. NO real bugs (we couldn't even sit outside in Texas from April to November due the humidity AND massive bugs). Housing market is STILL great.. especially compared to Colo & Cali. There is so much to do.. from hiking & camping to staycations on the strip & hotels around the city. No rain means no yard work.. zero escape saves time & money. We LOVE living here.. and appreciate the easy access to California and Colorado (where we vacation). I treat cases all over the country.. and the desert brings far less annual acutes, allergies, barometric changes, floods, fires, etc. So.. I think this video is based on a personal perspective rather than fact.. as we all know that we are moving to a hot/ dry desert before moving here.

I live here, east of Reno. If you love the outdoors, mountains, hiking, fishing, going off road, exploring ghost towns then this is a great place to live. Farming and ranching thrive near the rivers and canals. Unfortunately, Californians have moved here and driven up the home prices beyond what is reasonable. Nevadans just want to live their lives. They are a tough group of people, hardworking and patriotic. Nevada is not for wimps.

I live in Northern Nevada, and I love this video! It’s accurate, explains that Vegas is Sin City and not the entire state, and claims the residents are good folks. It might keep people from moving here; a good thing in my opinion. Personally, I think the education situation is worse than the tourists. We do love our tourists, they are the best! They visit, spend all their money, and go home. Tourists, as obnoxious as they maybe, are the reason we have no state income tax.

Hey, you’re from northern Nevada, u ever been to jarbridge? It’s a tinnnyy town in the middle of the mountains. It’s great but takes like 3 days of 4 wheelin through trails (worth it, the camping is great and it’s beautiful) but it’s worth it. It’s a town preserved in time. It functions like an old Wild West town. It’s great. Checkout the outdoor in, (it’s basically the only restaurant there, everyone hunts) and the down is shut down during the winters cause the snow. It’s a great place.

You must have only come to the strip and Fremont like the other tourists.

I was born and raised in Northern California and could not to afford to retire there. I just purchased a home in Southern Nevada and I love it. I have nice neighbors and a quite community. I love to garden and I do and it’s not cactus, you just have to garden smart. I have hummingbirds and families of quails that come by my yard everyday and make me smile. I have family and friends that live across this country and around the world and I have learned that a zip code is just numbers, it’s what you bring to the place you live that will make it a good or bad place for yourself and your family. I do drive back to Northern California every month and I love the drive.

I didn't see a big pile of brains at the airport so I think the tourists leave their brains at home before going to the airport. The locals also leave their brains at home before going to the casinos. Many do look like zombies: they are on the same slot machine for over 8 hours.

Yes cimarron, palo verde and the schools with that layout are the same as I believe i read the women's prison? They have a quad in the middle, four wings, and the windows are high on the walls so you cant see out of them. Gates secure the four wings. Definitely a prison layout

It's a bit nope for me. No gardening, poor healthcare and lots of trailer-y, methy vibes from the state.

We also think the medical healthcare sucks big time here in Vegas.
On 6/3 my 62 yr old hubby was diagnosed with lung cancer, nothing has been done, no care what so ever! then on 7/15 supposedly diagnosed with pulmonary Lupus, but his lab work says negative, the lung Dr tells my husband &I their is no care. The lung Dr puts my husband on 600 mg of prednisone for 6 days, on the 5th day the Drs nurse called my husband at home, to see how things are going. My husband has many concerns, the nurse responds....ok I will let the Dr know of your concerns, well see you in Nov. REALLY??

There are actual good hospitals out there and if your local one won't help, you gotta take charge of this with your husband! There are actual treatments he could be receiving. If I were to live there, it would be around Lake Tahoe, with the mountains, the beautiful lake and no state income tax. It won't be as hot, and more likely to have 4 seasons instead of two or one long one, like the Las Vegas area.

As a Vegas local, I can say as long as the tourists STAY ON THE STRIP , its fine. Locals are pretty rude to tourists when they venture outside the strip.
My dad lives south of Carson city and my God it's gorgeous! Surrounded by mountains, lakes, just so pretty. But his little county is pricey. Also a road trip to lake Tahoe,,,breathtaking.
A good route to drive in Nevada is U.S. 50. It is best done in a white 1970 Dodge Challenger.

I was driving through Las Vegas on my way to San Diego from Cleveland in 1978. I planned on spending a couple days here visiting some relatives. I totally feel in love with this place and put a couple of job applications in just to see what would happen. Within a week I landed a driving job for a commercial laundry delivering linens to the hotels. The laundry sold to several owners over the years. I stayed on until I retired in 2017. I was never out of work that entire time. It was such a great place back in the 70’s and early 80’s. It had a small town feel to it. I hated the growth that happened over the years, but progress is inevitable and I learned to live with it. This city has been very good to me over the years and I never regretted making it my home.

susan lash -- You quite sure about the driving time? Here's what I love about Carson: the quaint bldgs. And nothing else. Adele's was the best restaurant in N. NV but I don't know if it will ever open after the fire. Carson is boring. My late husband & I lived in Washoe Valley for 8 mos., which has some beautiful spots. I still drive down there from time to time. (Between Carson & Reno)

I love it here in Dayton, Nevada. Beautiful outdoors. I love the 4 seasons. Sure it does not rain much but I do have a thriving garden during the summer. You wear hats to protect your face from the sun.

At the age of 18 I moved to Vegas and I hated it the first 20 yrs. So much so I even joined the military to try and get away and yet I found myself back here once I got out. At 38 I realized this is my home and decided to buy a home in old Henderson. Funny how life works since I can't see myself living anywhere else in the foreseeable future.
I am California girl that moved to reno 30years ago reno gave me a good job health insurance, my 2girls are well educated and sussefull .Reno is a good place for families and adults 💙.

I left Orange County, CA, and moved to Reno in October '19. Yeah, it's desert, but it beats the hell out of living in the CA desert, which is the only affordable, and I use that term VERY loosely, place to rent or buy in CA. And I'm surrounded by mountains...I can't drive anywhere in the city without seeing the Sierras or the mountains to the east.
