My traditional blacksmith forge

- I show my forge - the air blower, the cast iron fire pot, the table etc. and make a coal fire. Open the full video description for more information.
----------------------------
A few quick questions:
1. What kind of fire pot is that?
Old one made in cast iron and made for blacksmithing. It's a common design. Cast iron is some of the best because it can handle a lot of heat without burning/being destroyed.
2. What kind of air blower is that?
In my case is it one made in Denmark for the danish military. Bought it local from a private seller here in Denmark. Similar is common for blacksmithing - if you want one try to google "Hand crank forge air blower" or similar.
3. How did you make the table?
Just loose bricks. The weight and overlaps keep it very well together.
4. What are you burning?
Birch bark and wood as tinder. In this case coal as fuel - but use charcoal a lot as well.

I know blacksmithing is hard work, but ya know I think it is peaceful working the fire and forging iron....
Thank you... This video helps me a lot, since I'm currently trying to build a field forge with a very cimilar structure. This video demostrates greatly how things should operate and be constructed.
Pekka Huppunen good luck on your build
Its a brave man that wears a white shirt to clean his forge. Your videos are true works of art.
You do good work. I also dont use power tools, I try to keep it as traditional as possible like my grandfather and father did.
I love your work! Keep it up and good luck finding your car. I'm a Subaru guy myself, I like the fact that it can get most anywhere I need to go. Thanks again my friend, your videos speak volumes!
Hi Rune! Thanks for this new video. It is clear. You must know the more hiden places in your environment to be a master. Nice work yours.
My favourite thing about your channel is the fact that its all timeless technology that you use.
Mad respect to the dudes making it without power tools. Started making my first knife yesterday and dont know where I would be without a belt sander.
Great example of showing, not telling.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million.
@@bossbulldog1134 Nah the people who don't talk in their videos are pretentious assholes. If they can't say anything why are they showing us something. Maybe because they don't know what they're doing? Traditional... uses a hand crank blower instead of bellows, hmm.
I love the authenticity of your videos...Thank You.
The cinematography is amazing on your videos!
I liked watching! Fire pot looks very similar to Angele but slightly different. Best style of clinker breaker. Thanks for sharing.
there's something so peaceful about your videos
These videos of your shop setup are wonderful! Your silence says many things.
This is so cool! Never really thought how a forge was fired up.
Моё почтение. У вас руки настоящего мужчины!
I appreciate you taking your time. Patience is definitely a virtue. Cheers 🤙
Генеральная уборка на скорую руку!
Traditional blacksmith work is finest craftsmanship work in the world!
No words needed. Kudos from Brazil.
I hope you have good ventilation. Love your videos
we enjoyed watching your programme . cheers
So happy I found this really wanted to see how it all fit together in your setup. Only downside is now I want one. Hahaha
The best u tuber peer perfection! THANK YOU Rune
Very cool my friend. I loved the glimpse into your forge. It answered so many questions I've had over the last couple of months.
Mind healing video Rune!

You are the best brother!
Man, I’d hate to see the water you wash up with 😊 love the videos...makes me appreciate my small workshop even more.
Simple but unique. Your are the man friend.cheers
Endelig en dansk youtuber som er værd at se!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
Very cool man. Thanks for sharing.
Id love to see you do a video making charcoal!
Calm and peaceful video. Thanks for sharing.
truly amazing..i love this video.i salute you sir.
Another great documentary!
Some nice old equipment. Hobby blacksmithing has become a little more popular here in the US lately, I believe due in some part to the tv series Forged In Fire, so prices for old equipment have gone up as well. I bought a 134# Peter Wright anvil some years ago for $100. Now used anvils are going for 2 or 3 dollars a lb. Like your shop.
there has been and still is many blacksmith clubs nation wide US and Canada with thousands of blacksmiths for decades.... tv series pffff get a clue . popularity didn't start with the internet ya know!
go check out ABANA or north west black smith association (NWBA)
Very cool. Methoticallly done. I liked it
Incredible Rune, would give an amazing picture in time 7:33

I like your videos because they’re traditional and I don’t have to go out and buy all those power tools!
Excepcional guerreiro! Tiro o meu chapéu para você... 🤔😃👏👏👏👏
Wooow, so nice man!
I'm so envious, I'll have to make something following the same principle :D
Best non-vocal RUclipsr!!
This is golden, but out of the silent and crafty youtuber bunch I'd also elevate Primitive Technology (who remains silent, but opens up the methodology via cc in his vids).
@@isoljator Yeah i also really like Primitive Technology, but they are like two different "styles". PT is all about tropical stuff and really like stone age-style. But Malte is a bit more modern and also focusses on blacksmithing and he is a bit more "viking". But both of them are one of the best outdoor youtubers I've ever see.

Hola amigo 😳 ...great video 👍 the best !!
very nice best butcher and tools peace++to you
Hey brother! I love your videos, I've been watching them religiously now! Awesome awesome content! You've truly inspired me to start learning to blacksmith.
I was wondering if you purchased your grinding wheel or made it. If you made it, what ratio of aluminum oxide to cement did you use? I plan on making my own!
Thanks!!!!
Thanks. In my case is it a stone straight from nature. We have a lot laying around here in Denmark from (I guess) Sweeden.
Sooo detailed 👍👍👍👍

Beauty.
As the add for "soap for dudes" was running it gave me a moment to click "like & write this!) I'm sure it will be a good one, but when is the next multi-day camping trip video?
Thanks. Try to make them no more than two weeks apart. It's soon time for the next one, but is waiting for a few days of ideal camera weather... I use instagram for updates about the next videos.
Awesome
Thank you
Автор канала напоминает мне героя сериала Декстер ;) такой же спокойный.. и неизвестно что у него на уме ;)
That's cool 👍

Ich liebe deine Vids, echt ✌ Die Ruhe die du ausstrahlst...besser als Tantra Sex 😜
Love it!
Great video! I was however sad to see matches and not a flint and steel. None the less thank u for sharing!!
Black smith's use matches or lighters for the past couple hundred years
And these methods work better!
Merci du partage....!
Amazing
really nice workshop, do you make your own charcoal? if so can you make a video on how you make it?
Thanks. I did - don't do it right now. It takes up a lot of fire wood.... But I will do it in a video at some point in the future.
@@BertramCraftAndWilderness i'm looking foward to it 😊😊
That’s awesome how did you get the old building and the forge?
Thanks. Did get the building for free... and did build the shop myself from old used parts.
Great
O melhor te todos🙏
Thanks for showing. I may ask you how did you get your shop? Some of your tools are very unique.
Thanks. I made the shop myself about one year ago... Bought some old used gear and made the rest my self. Most of it is common here in Denmark.
How do you know all this things? I mean, metals, wood, plants, animales, tents , food, you know evrething.
Great job men.
Best regards from Uruguay.

Thanks. I just spend a lot of time doing it myself - visiting people, use the internet, books etc.
Rune Malte Bertram-Nielsen ....I really enjoy your videos and trying to learn your methods. Thanks for you patience and efforts. Keep walking! 🤙🏻

Show us more about ventilation
It's just a tall steel pipe... and nothing else. The building is far from air tight.
I'm disappointed that it ended... lol.
Great! Thanks

Great to see the workshop close up Bertram. Are you in a position to make/ forge all the spare parts needed to keep the workshop functioning?
Thanks. Yes - I can and do forge what ever I need in the shop of tools and most of the spare parts.
Fire is present... Where is a big piece of meat?!...))
Thanks for video...
Please forge Thor's Storm breaker next.
Respect!!!
TOP
UR the best anyway;)
Curious, as an individual with no practical black smithing background, how often does a well maintained forge require this deep level of cleaning?
Once a year or less.

will you or have you done a video on your treadle hammer
The video is on the channel - link in the video description.
This video very great .thanks u so much .where a you come from ?
Thank you. I am from Denmark - www.runemaltebertramnielsen.com/441588230
Kolejny świetny film. Mam tylko jedno pytanie, czy to był węgiel kamienny czy koks ? Bo po dźwięku przy wysypywaniu bardziej kamienny przypominał :)
Thanks. Used coke from last coal fire and added fresh coal.

Hello there ! I would like to ask you what size is the chimney pipe ? It looks quite small (under 250mm). Can you specify this ?
The thing is , I am thinking about transitioning my blacksmith shop from outdoor into indoors and there is a brick chimney present, but the size is only 200mm :/
Can you tell me approximatly the size of your shop thx.
