    According to my igorot grandparents that the handle of the gong was traditionally made from a humans jawbone since our ancestors headhunts back then... Traditionally, the gongs or gangsa are always used in everyday rituals or events; but today, gongs are only used sometimes when there's a wedding, funeral, reunion, etc. (you guys can correct me if I'm wrong btw😅)...

      Not all Igorot tribes practiced headhunting. My mother is Ibaloi and I know for sure headhunting was not practiced (my grandparents used to scare my mom and aunties and uncles when they were young that a “busoy” would come and chop their head off if they were being naughty 😁),so I never saw human jaw bones as handles during our cañao.

      The ifontoks were notorious for their headhunting practices

    • @meldrop8408
      @meldrop8408 Год назад +1

      The gongs with jawbones as handles can only be seen nowadays at cultural festivals mostly on Bontoc just for showcasing and is not actually being used for music because those are ancestral heritage which is already really old and fragile.

      @@rjvilla5228 Precolonial times, all Igorots were headhunters including the Ibaloi and several parts of the Philippines. However, I was told by relatives and through oral history that we Ibaloi only cut heads of enemies to protect the village.

      Igorots were practice headhunters. Kalinga people are known for Tribal War. Pattong with fay feng and kalasag considered to be a War Dance.
