Freemasonry - Freemasonry and the Druids

  • I've been thinking about looking at the relationship between Druidism and Freemasonry for some time. When I finally got down to reading the source texts I found that, even though they didn't really answer my questions, I think they are of enough interest to be worth publishing.
This video is a two-parter. The first section is a modern short essay by the redoubtably named Bro. Stanley K Sproule, which was published in 1983. This gives a typically contemporary and clearheaded view of the purported relationship between Druidism and Freemasonry. The second is quite a contrast, being a flowery piece of high Victorian prose. A lot of the arguments in this have long been exploded, but the text is a marvelous piece of writing, particularly the uplifting final passages.
i hope you enjoy them both!

Good comprehensive presentation. Summarizes alot of material in a short time. It reminds me of the "Perennial stream of knowledge", the idea that there is a central source and stream of all wisdom. Brother Waite has suggested that there is often "imitation" (to a certain degree) among men and women of different schools of thought who draw from the Perennial Stream without them having to come into direct contact with each other. You are quite correct, the actual Druid teachings are buried in the past and all we have today are estimations. It is said Brother Sir Winston Churchill was also a Druid and I know of a Past Arch Druid named, John Michael Greer, who I met at a Masonic function years ago. Currently, Brother Greer is the author of "The Dolmen Arch: A Study Course in the Druid Mysteries Volume 2 The Greater Mysteries". Really enjoyed the correlations between Hebrew, Egyptian, Masonic, and Celtic. The mention of the "VEIL OF ISIS" and closing remarks about Love, excellent! 😀👏👏👍🇺🇸

Thanks for the thought-provoking comment. I've often though that Waite's thought system is closely related to Jung's Archetypes. I wonder if they ever corresponded?

Hmm, so its safe to say this view point of the Druids has a strong Roman bias. A bias by the Druids enemy, as it is the only source of information. How much of the claim by Romans is a justification for how they treated the Druids and the Christians at that time (ethnic cleansing). One might also consider that maybe the druids were more like the other persecuted group the Christians.

Very good points. In a lot of ways the legacy of the Druids reminds me of that of the cult of Mithras. In both cases the 'cleansing' (in one case by the Romans, in the other the Christians) was so successful that all we have left are speculation and myth.

Thank you for these informative videos I'm currently a EA going to be passed to FC at the end of this month here in Ohio USA. And thirsty for more light especially in the esoteric. Are there any books you would recommend? I currently finished The Lost Keys Of Freemasonry a big fan of Manley P Hall.

      Congratulations on starting your journey!
Personally I'd recommend slowing down on reading too much until you've been raised to the third degree. The ceremonies are so impressive and powerful that they're best experienced 'cold', without any preconceptions. Once you've expeienced the third you could start dippping into Mackey's encyclopedia to help you understand what just happened. You can read it online here www.phoenixmasonry.org/mackeys_encyclopedia/ or purchase copies from a range of sources.
After that, the journey is all your own. There are so many different avenues to explore it depends on your own preference. That's how this channel evolved, I just started reading old lectures and am now deep down the rabbit hole. The 'From the Quarries' website has a library section with a few hundred Masonic and Esoteric texts available for download when you're ready. Good luck 😊

Will you kindly give your source for the druid informaion (example being set onto a boat, etc)? Those of us who study druidry cannot seem to find many actual historical resources, and the ones we do have don't go into as much detail as you do, so yours would be most enjoyed. Thank you for the video.

I have an old photocopied version of this at home that I found in a cupboard at my lodge. I presume someone presented it years ago, but have found an online copy here: www.masonicworld.com/education/articles/druidism_and_freemasonry.htm

A lot of that is only going to seem convincingly pagan to someone from a Protestant Christian background. The puritans associate a lot of more universal and even intuitive stuff specifically with paganism. It’s part of their weirdness that they look on other monotheistic faiths and don’t merely conclude they are inferior but actively polytheistic or satanic. The ear of corn didn’t make sense to me though. I’d love to hear that one gone into in more depth because it sounded like it literally just means they grow corn on farms.

He represents the fertility of the earth and crops. He is a nature deity. Like blue skinned gods in Hinduism are colored that way for symbolic reasons as well.

Egyptians were not black. Another false argument on the woke agenda.
