Ironically (pun intended) you missed Alanis Morissette in your list of Canadian artist. And speaking of the warning the just released a cover of you oughta know. I hope you check out FTF daughters of witches arias bass is killer in it.
The worldwide pop and rock music scene is incredibly US-centred, you can see it every time you discover great music from somewhere else. The Warning recently once more mentioned Eruca Sativa when they were asked to name their top five women in rock. Eruca’s bass player Brenda is Ale’s idol, and Ale already is much more famous than her. Pau once said she wanted to play like Eruca’s drummer Gabriel Pedernera when she grows up - Pau is already grabbing American prizes and nominations left, right and centre, and Gaby is still “world famous in Argentina”. The Warning were lucky and shrewd to crack the US market first, and sign a very favourable contract with a US label. It takes a few stars to align to win universal fame when you are from a non-English speaking country, and even if you are, it is more difficult if that country is not the USA. What does it mean for Freeze the Fall? I wish them the best and hope they get a fair shot, and can deliver the goods every time they get an opportunity, just like The Warning did.
Along with The Warning (Mexico), Voice of Baceprot (Indonesia), The Sixters (Ukraine), Liliac (USA) and now Freeze the Fall (Canada), they are the bands that are giving rock a future. They have many things in common, such as that they are very young, the protagonists are women, enormous talent and desire to make great music. Let's support these bands because they deserve it and we also need them.
Last month I discovered The Warning and I was amazed by them. So I started looking for other new bands, and I realized that there are many, like Freeze the Fall. We also have: Plush, Holy Wars, Never Obey Again, Bad Habits, Sierra Levesque, Avalon Stone, Vilivant, Diamante, Marisa and the Moths, The Haunt, Vigil of War, Dead Pony, Yours Truly, and I could go on forever. There are many young or new bands that are making great music and have a bright future. There is a lot of talent out there. Hopefully many of this bands will be headlining festivals in the next decades. It's time to pass the torch to the new generation
Not just a great reaction/analysis, a master course in Canadian music practices/history. And now ya got TW's cover of Alanis's You Oughta Know and Dany's voice to marvel over!🤘
Glad you got to check out Freeze The Fall!! I was surprised by how well Glitch turned out, I had seen their live performance at Crown & Thieves but the band seemed to have really advanced by the time they recorded Glitch. Hope you can check out more of their music soon!
@@randymarple9830 If it goes well for them, which they absolutely have the potential for, yes. It can take them so long yet they will do numbers, fuck the Canadian Curse, they are insane. It took The Warning 10 years to do numbers and they’re still not that big, I’m sure anyone as good as these kids can make their way through.
Hey Phil! Nice catch on the little change-up in the last chorus. I suspect that might be some of The Warning's influence there (just a guess). It's one of the things I love about The Warning's songwriting - how they always do some little change at the end of a song, whether an added backup vocal line, a skipped downbeat, moving the chord progression up instead of down (speaking of Choke).... there's always some little thing they will do and for me that takes a song from good to great because I love the anticipation it creates. You only get it once and have to wait until the end of the song to get it!
The breakdown before the last chorus and the ending are great!! It is reminiscent of The Warning - but they definitely have their own sound! ❤❤❤ The way that the choruses have differences is awesome too.
With that mask on, Jonah looks like horror icon Michael Myers. Without the mask, though, he looks EVEN MORE like Michael Myers! haha. He scares me! That's a GOOD thing. hehe

Interesting to hear how you came to know Freeze The Fall. I was wondering about that since they shared the picture of you and Aria on Facebook. Like a number of people, I discovered them after they posted a live performance video of them covering Evolve by The Warning. I checked to see what else they had done, and discovered live performance videos of five original songs, Masquerade, Daughters of Witches, One Left Standing, Insomnia, and 46, from the same venue. They also had a demo lyric video for a sixth song, Thrones. I enjoyed all their originals, and immediately subscribed, and have been following them ever since. I love their lyrics, and it seems to me that their songs have somewhat of a storytelling quality to them. I certainly draw vivid mental images from certain lyrics. They have been together as a band for just over two years, and the past year and a half, from when they first posted videos on RUclips, has been very busy for them. Glad that you are getting a chance to see them live. I am sure they will appreciate any advice you may give them. I hope they manage to avoid the "Canadian curse", as I would like to get a chance to see them in my area of the world. The northeastern U.S.
Hi, Phil. It is heartwarming to see people on the internet give exposure to actual musicians. I was born at about the same time as rock & roll (1955) and was fortunate to see many of the greats of the 60s - 80s in live performances. Then i watched the corporate music 'industry' try to kill it in favor of the cookie cutter 'marketable' performers who don't play instruments, sing on pitch or in key and have no idea how to write a musical score. So as an old rock & roll hound i appreciate what you do. Personalities sell fragrances, clothing lines, sneakers or whatever else consumers can be duped into buying - musicians produce ART. Anyway, thats my rant for today. Love what you do.❤
Phil - great review of another great Canadian band. The first time I heard Glitch I knew I'd found yet another great up n coming group from our neighbors to the north. IMO Canada has a long history of turning out some of THE best rock music ever written. You really made me feel my age when you started to list other Canadian bands who’ve made it big…before you even started naming them my brain immediately went to Rush (my favorite band of all time), Triumph, April Wine, Loverboy, The Guess Who, BTO, Steppenwolf, Saga and Prism…and none of these were in your list! Ugh, I’m old!! :)
Once again an excellent reaction.. Thank you for being so knowledgeable about music and dissecting the details, the rest of us only feel rather than see. Freeze the Fall would be wise to reach out to you and gain from your experience (break that Canadian artist curse!).. P.S it was awesome meeting you and the Mrs. at the Vancouver show, along with all the other TWA.. it was cool to hang out and share our admiration for the band together and for many of us witness DPA live for the first time.. Too bad we didn't get to see Dany and Halestorm like in Quebec 😞
cool to see you finally react to the local talent..lol some other Canadian bands you forgot Tragically Hip, Our Lady Piece, Billy Talent, The Tea Party, Moist and Mother Mother to name a few with varying success in the US and other parts of the world. I work construction so I listen to the radio all the time at work. I just hate when I am forced to listen to a pop/soft rock station. If I can I listen to 99.3 The Fox, 91.3 The Zone(Victoria) 102.5 KZOK (Seattle) BUT thats only if I forget to charge my cell and dont wanna kill it at work lol BUT ye FTF should be on local radio like the fox and would be cool to see them come here to victoria sometime
Started watching your feed sometime back. Just played Keep me Feed, by The Warning all tracks, in my London Show. Keep up the reviews and I will keep my ears tuned, Thanks DJ^HD...
Radio is no longer the main place people listen to music. Internet music streaming bypassed radio several years back. Now bands can get their music out worldwide so no Canadian artist curse. Tnx for the reaction and stay awesome.
Good sounding band. For some reason, at least on this song, they remind me of a band from Tennessee called 10 Years, which makes no sense considering this is a 3 piece and 10 years is a 5 piece and FtF has female lead while 10 Years has male lead.
So, this is one of 5 videos filmed in a single 10 hour day, in a borrowed unheated -7°c barn in late December, 2023. That icy breath is real. In order to get full, mid and close shots, they played all 5 songs, 3 times, changing outfits 15 times, each time making sure everything matched.

Metric, Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, Spiritbox, Kittie, Rough Trade, Broken Social Scene, Cowboy Junkies, The Tea Party.
I🖤FTF❄
This band sounds similar to a young “evanescence “…musically and vocally..at least in this song .
Phil, this is great and all, love them I swear, but you have to react to The Warning cover of “You Aught to Know” … must watch TV
Nicely done FTF! Great reaction Phil
It is fair to say TWA has adopted Freeze The Fall.
cool to see you finally react to the local talent..lol some other Canadian bands you forgot Tragically Hip, Our Lady Piece, Billy Talent, The Tea Party, Moist and Mother Mother to name a few with varying success in the US and other parts of the world.
Thanks!
Please react to / analyze Freeze The Fall song "Daughters of Witches"!!
Started watching your feed sometime back. Just played Keep me Feed, by The Warning all tracks, in my London Show. Keep up the reviews and I will keep my ears tuned, Thanks DJ^HD...
I think FTF has a new single coming out on Halloween.
❄️❄️❄️
Radio is no longer the main place people listen to music. Internet music streaming bypassed radio several years back. Now bands can get their music out worldwide so no Canadian artist curse. Tnx for the reaction and stay awesome.
Thanks again
Good sounding band. For some reason, at least on this song, they remind me of a band from Tennessee called 10 Years, which makes no sense considering this is a 3 piece and 10 years is a 5 piece and FtF has female lead while 10 Years has male lead.
So, this is one of 5 videos filmed in a single 10 hour day, in a borrowed unheated -7°c barn in late December, 2023. That icy breath is real. In order to get full, mid and close shots, they played all 5 songs, 3 times, changing outfits 15 times, each time making sure everything matched.
Thanks for the background info. Quite interesting!
Thanks Russ. Your comment saved me having to explain the barn scenario to Phil!!
hey !!!!!!!!!!!!! 😙
Phil please review the warnings cover of "you otta know"
Love your take on music. You should try and do at least 1-2 new bands from all over the world evert couple of weeks.
