Great to see someone who knows what they are doing! I've been in the remodeling / handy man business for 35 years...... it's great to see your videos that show an honest craftsman!
Nice work guys. Really makes me feel good about the world to know that there are people out there trying to do the job right even when the client will never know. Great stuff.
I’ve been a contractor for the past 16-17 years. Started when I was about 21-22. Wish I worked near you guys to do some collaboration. Y’all seem super positive and conscientious. Keep it up!
I've been binge watching this series of bathroom videos and it's really helping get me in the mood for my impending kitchen remodel! You're a man of my own heart taking that extra bit of time to do stuff properly and we clearly share a love of pocket hole screws! When I did my bathroom a few years back, the pocket hole jig was probably my most used tool after the tile saw! I really like the quality of your work and the clarity of your videos - keep it up!
That flange and drain set up looks so much cleaner than what was installed in my 2016 build. You wouldn’t believe how much this affects your shower pan drainage over time. Between personal hygiene and regular cleanings, an improper or lackadaisical drain install will wreck havoc over time-an no one wants the Grand Canyon to emerge from underneath their feet-especially one that may contain moldy hair and debris!… In case you hadn’t heard it as of late, thank y’all for sharing your work, tips, and tricks- and for demonstrating decency, proficiency, professionalism, and basic humanitarianism. Complacency tends to breed faster than competency and is a great disservice to craftsmanship-amongst so many other things. Thank you 🙏 Stay blessed
In order to be code compliance light fixtures over tub and shower shall be listed for its use .🎉sealed. And for sure switches and receptacles need to out of reach from shower or tub. Great work .
Your videos serve or rather help you in not only teaching/ communicating to us but mainly to your son. As I can't think ,what better way a son can approve of his father's business and motivate then to have thousands of viewers . Thanks for the life lessons.
Have you guys ever tried a heat gun on the socket of the flange? It still needs 1 cut to get it started but it will usually peel off quite easy. This is something we do in New Zealand. Awesome vids guys keep it up!
The Halo retrofit cans are great - so are the Utilitech canless. The selectable color temperature is a real game change for LED fixtures, too - softer 2700K or 3000K in bedrooms, 3500K to 4000K for baths and kitchens, and 5000K for work areas. I installed some recently in a remodel and LOVE the canless LEDs. I personally like to put two 3 or 4 inch lights in showers, depending on the size (two 3" in a smaller shower like this one), to help minimize shadows from just having one single light.
I’ve installed some led retrofit can lights from Costco but they are not completely flush with the ceiling. The old can lights seemed to be painted or siliconed to the ceiling (I had to cut around the rim of the housing to get it off cleanly). Do you recommend adding some caulk to the rim of the lights to get the lights adhered to the ceiling/flush? I’m also wondering if it’s okay to have a slight gap if these are installed in a bathroom.
I’m not a fan of caulking the trim ring to the ceiling but can see where it would be beneficial in some cases. Regarding the gap, depends on how much. Anything larger than 1/16” I’d try to correct
Interesting that the new outlet you put in there fixes to the *outside* of the floor drain, that just seems so backwards, especially when the floor drain now has divots in it from the drilling. I would still be worried about that not being a great connection.
You are most DEFINITELY a craftsman. I I may ask where are located. I would love to hire you. I flip houses for a living, and you do outstanding work. Do it the right way is the only way... AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME Work....
Was it a conscious decision to not make the shower handicap accessible? To make the curb lower and using a shower door with a good bottom seal would minimize that hurdle. A good friend after building a dream home broke his back and wound up starting over due to so many areas that needed extensive changes. The comprises in a design may be worth it in the long picture.
Interesting that the shower flange was glued to the outside of the drain pipe (3:03) while the toilet flange was glued inside the drain pipe (5:35). Is that the "standard"? I.e., shower drain flange goes around the shower drain pipe, while toilet flange goes inside drain pipe? Thanks.
13:40 you can put tile on hardy backer because you use red guard. Which the old shower did have red guard. I think Paul was right on what he said at the beginning
Learned a few things as always. Another good one and the bathroom is coming together very well. Great tips on drain replacement and the easy can light replacement too. It’s PAUL Y’ALL! PAUL.....And of course Jordan.
We did a bathroom remodel two years ago. After removing the two toilets I stuffed newspaper down the cast iron pipe. In the middle of the night I heard a scratching sound. Sure enough, a sewer rat was trying to gain access to the house. I put a 2 x 8 bit of scrap with a sledge hammer on top to keep the little bugger at bay. The next day I got two expansion plugs in place. The internal pipe cutter is great, thanks.
Thx Emmet. I did a bathroom remodel once and stuffed an old hand towel in the toilet drain. When we removed the towel weeks later to install the toilet it had been well chewed upon 😳
Old school plastic hub removal from pipe. One doesn't see that everyday. I screwed up often enough I had to learn it on my own. Until I figured it out I was ready to go back to lead and oakum.
Happy new year! Thanks for the great and educational videos!! I love to see the joy it gives you to take the time to record and edit those vids in order to educate us. Can I come and work with you guys?
run my kerdi horizontal in shower so can weather it like roofing felt then over kill seams painted wit redgard always add fancy ninche or 2 sometimes smaller 1 low so home owner can put their hoof in warsh they hocks n hoofs easier lol good work keep vids coming
Another great video gang. Is there a reason you didn’t put an exhaust fan in the shower area? Maybe there is one and I just didn’t see it? I’m in Arkansas and that’s actually code here.
The work, as always, is great and all ... but c'mon Paul ... you can't wear horizontal stripes on camera! Believe I went on some kind of psychedelic trip with that moiré pattern. Mind trip aside, fascinating work and high quality.
@@StudPack As a less than thin guy who finds himself on television at times... what to wear on camera is one of my few areas of knowledge. Y’all are the best.
I was surprised that you did not cover the SHOWER DRAIN with some masking tape before you injected the thin-set under it... I like watching how you solve problems... BEST
11:09 I don't understand, you shortened the whole thing, then you cut to length. Wasnt that wasteful? Wouldnt it be better to first cut it to length, and then the correct piece shortened? This way u would be left for the second part untouched ready for use somewhere else...?

You can also use a plastic frosting piping bag or a gallon ziploc with the corner nipped off.
I need those lights. Worth the whole video. Thank you

I don't know anything about construction/renovation but holy shit watching these is so soothing
Thx yellowduck!!
Did this before it works good but if you deal with a stubborn and stuck from the glue you can use slow drying xylene to break the glue bond

You guys got lucky must not have been really old glue joint. Ive had good luck using a hole saw over the pipe
You’re a good and detailed teacher. Thank you
Hey Paul. Good thing you used up the thin set for that hole in floor. The self leveler doesn’t like to be troweled. Jerry from Fresno
Nice work guys and glad both flanges came out nicely! Great to see both methods in same video. Keep up the great work this week!
Well done ! When homeowners ask me best type of fan. I refer to Panasonic also.
Awesome trick on the PVC flange remover. That could save some head aches. Someday.
Thanks

Love that you guys use selectable color temp lights. When you can't just change out a bulb, that's a must-have feature.
Great video, renovations have to b the most pain in the ass type of work out there and u guys make it look easy. Great job!!
Job goes better with the proper tools and lights to see what you are doing!
Great video, thank you!
It is good to see a contractor that is not afraid to use lights, to many are
1 With the curb the cut "open" end doesn't get filled in with a piece of block/brick?
2 The AllSET doesn't require priming to bond to the concrete?
1) no 2) no All Set is just like any other thinset and bonds well to concrete
Another awesome video. Really like how you guys look out for the homeowner/client. Good dudes!
Great job guys!!
It is worth noting that for properly dimming LEDs, you need to buy a dimmer meant for dimming LEDs
Yep good point. We'll point that out on dimmer install video. Thx Bradyn!!
You hard rock tunes are quite enjoyable.
Interesting that the new outlet you put in there fixes to the *outside* of the floor drain, that just seems so backwards, especially when the floor drain now has divots in it from the drilling. I would still be worried about that not being a great connection.
When I did mine, I just slopped a bunch of PVC glue all around the perimeter to hopefully run down into and seal any imperfections.
Would you put a water proofing membrane on a ceiling especially if it’s in a walk in shower?
Enjoy your guy's videos ..don't stop fellas
I have never seen a saw blade like that before.....I guess that is why I was a fireman...Enjoying your channel....
Really enjoy watching these videos , they have helped me a ton . Thanks for recording your projects .
I guess you could use a trash bag to get the thinset underneath the drain
You guys need to look into a PVC hub saver tool only about 30$ each size doing remodel work would save you
Thanks for showing how easy it is to install those lights! I think I can do that now!
You got it Rebecca 👍

I use a heat gun to warm the joint. Usually comes off clean.
Yeah I've seen that done but never tried it.
I know that 3 years later you won't be reading this but thank you for always having the exact video that I need!!

Hey Stud Pack! Not sure if you'll see this? I'm doing a shower redo myself. Have you guys tried the Flo FX flange? It cost $45 plus $5 shipping
Interior pipe cutter bit blew my damn mind. There’s a million times I coulda used that. Gonna get me one. Thx
My favorite video so far.

Why not use the schluter foam shower pan
Jordan is actually a soundboard.
Also people really do love those 12x24s now. If I could give you a tip, mapeis thinset is much better than schluters
😂
Ohhh no!!! How in heaven did you use the Sheetrock/joint compound knife with the tin set!!!😃

Schluter

why not use a pipe reemer?
